Perfect Calistoga Weekend

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish our weekend at the Modern Farmhouse was perfect! The house was beautiful--spacious, light, and welcoming. The grounds were amazing and we loved the bocce ball court and the expansive front porch. The Farmhouse is a great home base for exploring Calistoga (don't miss Dr Wilkinson's mud baths!) and the Napa Valley. After long days at the vineyards, it was lovely to come home, cook dinner in the well-appointed kitchen, and hang out with friends. We highly recommend this rental and will definitely be back soon!

Perfect stay and Baby Shower!

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a great stay here! The property is lovely - very spacious and relaxing. The house is open and feels very new/fresh/clean. I loved relaxing in the hammock on the front porch while others played bocce! The layout was perfect for a baby shower my friends hosted for my husband and me with about 30 guests. The weather was great for our group to enjoy being outdoors. The hosts were great to work with in giving suggestions for catering as well. Everything we needed for the party was available at the house to use. The house is also a quick 5 min drive to downtown Calistoga - we enjoyed a mud bath at Indian Springs and tons of wineries to enjoy. Can't wait to come back to this house next time I'm in Calistoga!

What a peaceful, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The experience of the property went beyond what we expected from the property description and photo's. The house and setting are peaceful, surrounded by trees and a nice creek. The home was very clean and well maintained. We had a sense of being in the country and yet were only a short distance to downtown. We had a “magical” stay and look forward to coming back again. Thanks Mike!

About a half step from camping out.

  • 1 of 5

Water is not drinkable. Filter at the kitchen sink is a joke.

Whereas the house has 3 bedrooms the water heater can only provide a hot shower for 1 person in the morning.

House is uninhabitable in the winter. The central heating system is ineffective on the first floor, while it leaves the upstair rooms too hot. The location of the thermostat on the first floor

(which is the wrong place) contributes to this problem. Also the air vents are very noisy, which preclude restful sleep. The pellet stove only heats the small den area, and barely

overcomes the lack of weatherstripping around the front door.

The gate was broken.

The kitchen table chairs must have come from a garage sale. They all felt unsafe to sit in.

The size and configuration of the kitchen is an issue. Whereas it is barely adequate for breakfast, it would not be suitable to prepare a meal for groups larger than 2.

The bed in the small upstairs bedroom has broken slats.

Upon arrival, the den ceiling fixtures did not have light bulbs. We found some in the utility room.

Owner's Response: We’re very sorry to hear that your expectations were not met when staying with us and appreciate your taking the time to give your feedback. We started offering this house as a rental quite recently and are always looking to improve based on our guests’ input. While we adore the beautiful Calistoga retreat, we understand that what works for us might not work for everyone. Your feedback helps us improve our vacation homes and create a great guest experience. As a result of your valuable input, we want to let you know we’ve implemented the following changes: Heating: Going forward, we’re making sure to warm up/cool down the home well before guests are due to arrive. And information about controlling the thermostats will be detailed further in our Welcome Book. Kitchen: Our kitchen may be on the small side, but we’re glad to say that it is well-stocked. In fact, many guests have shared their appreciation of that. Water Heater: PG&E was doing lots of repair work after the fires and we discovered the power had gone out and reset the water heater. PG$E has since completed their work and we have installed a new large hybrid water heater, which supplies hot water on demand-instead of on a timer, to make sure our guests will be able to enjoy a nice shower whenever they want. Water Filtration: The water is pumped from an onsite well. Although all water tests have shown the water to be safe, it did have a mineral taste that some may not have like. Therefore, we've upgraded the water filtration system to include an appropriately sized system to filter water between the pump and house. And a secondary system that filters the drinking water.

September Calistoga trip with Friends

  • 5 of 5

I went to Napa for a wedding with a group of friends from college. We chose to stay in a house together over a hotel so that we could have more time together and have a cozy communal space to catch up. Mike's Calistoga house was perfect for our group! The house was very clean and modern (there was a Nest thermostat). Decor was nice--simple, rustic, minimalist, filament bulbs. All kitchen appliances and general house appliances looked new and were easy to use. The house had nice coffee and chocolate which was a nice touch. There were nice gardening, architecture, and bird coffee table books. There were awesome apple and mini Asian pear trees outside also.

The location was at the northernmost part of the valley and felt almost remote, but we happened upon an unassuming and very charming winery very close by that actually ended up being our favorite on the trip.

Overall, the space was great, and everything was easy! Thank you, Mike.

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed, including a well stocked kitchen. The outdoor areas are lovely for relaxing in the evenings. The large bedroom areas worked really well for our group which contained several families and there were ample pillows and bedding. Thanks for a great weekend!
