Overview

About the property

This beautifully presented second floor apartment in Edinburgh’s Old Town is perfectly situated in the heart of the city to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer. There is a communal roof area with views of Edinburgh Castle - perfect for watching the Edinburgh International Festival and Hogmanay fireworks, or for having a peaceful drink at sunset. (Please note this is not a terrace, but simply a flat roof with a fence around it. There is a foldable table and chairs in the apartment that you can use if you want to sit on the roof).

Bread Street is a fantastic location in the heart of the UK’s favourite city (Observer Travel Awards 2012). The best of Edinburgh is on your doorstep. World-class tourist attractions, cutting-edge theatres and vibrant festival venues can be found amidst a throng of Michelin-starred restaurants, artisan cafes and leafy parks just beyond your threshold. You'll find guide books, brochures and leaflets in the apartment to help you figure out what your "can't-miss" Edinburgh adventures are.

This completely modernised apartment benefits from classic Edinburgh high ceilings and large south-facing windows, as well as a brand new kitchen and shower room. Comfort and convenience are high on the agenda, with luxurious Egyptian cotton bedlinen, a well-equipped kitchen, an iPod/smart phone dock and Wi-Fi throughout.

Check-in is from 3pm on the day of arrival and check-out by 10:30am on the morning of departure. Whenever possible, we are happy to arrange an early baggage drop-off or late baggage collection to suit your travel plans.

We provide a friendly and personal service, meeting all guests on arrival to provide keys and show you around the apartment. Our hope is that the apartment will be a home away from home during your stay in Edinburgh.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We would love to hear from you!

About Emelie & Owen Lima

We are a South African-Swedish couple who love travelling and visiting new places (especially hot and sunny ones). In 2005 we somehow found ourselves living in not-so-sunny, but spectacularly beautiful Scotland, where the idea of combining our passion for property and travel started to materialise. In 2012 we finally took the plunge, bought our first investment flat and spent several months giving it a complete makeover. In 2015 we relocated to Cape Town, South Africa (permanently beautiful weather!), and we now have a holiday let here as well, so if you ever decide to visit Cape Town, do get in touch :-)

Emelie & Owen Lima purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Emelie & Owen Lima chose Old Town

Call us biased, but we think this is the PERFECT location to explore Edinburgh (if in doubt, have a look at the list of what's available within 10 minutes' walking distance!).

What makes this apartment unique

We love the view from the roof and the character of the flat, with its high ceilings, bay windows and even an old-fashioned clothes pulley. The layout is also really great and works well for three or four guests, since all rooms are accessed from the hallway, so there's no walking through each other's rooms to get to the bathroom or kitchen.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We can't say enough about how fantastic your flat is! If we could give it 6 stars we would. From the great communication when we first booked to having Linda meet us, everything has been perfect. We felt right at home immediately (as did the kids) and loved the breakfast items and chocolate you left for us. The decor is fresh, cozy and fun, and the flat has everything we could have needed. The location is AMAZING!

You do an amazing job with your rental flat and have made this last part of the trip for us stress-free and relaxing because of it. Thank you again and again!

PS. We loved the helpful little signs/notes :-)

Great place, perfect location, excellent condition -- outstanding vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place! My partner and I had an amazing visit to Owen & Emelie's flat. It's perfectly located close to everything you might want to see in Edinburgh, with quick access from the train station (unless you're hauling some heavy suitcases, then it's a super-brief cab ride). Just a couple blocks from the tour busses, easy walking distance to the Grassmarket for great pubs, a bit further up to Edinburgh Castle, just about everything is right there at your doorstep.

Check-in was super simple, meeting Owen's delightful mum to get the key and the tour of the place. She even stocked it with coffee, tea, milk, a fresh bread and the requisite Irn Bru! The flat is comfortable and spotlessly clean, and communication with Emelie was effortless. The only thing guests need to be aware of is that the location can be a little loud at night, due to the neighborhood's popularity as a go-to place for groups of revelers having a fun night out on the town. If you're used to city living, you'll never even notice, but this is a minor issue for a place that's so comfortable, perfectly located, and reasonably priced! We'd totally return here for another visit!

Perfect location with easy walk to the Royal Mile

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was perfect for our four nights in Edinburgh. The apartment is clean and nicely decorated and furnished—it felt special to stay there! It was so nice to be greeted with extra touches of fresh bread and drinks after a long drive. We could park our car at a lot a couple blocks away. Our daughter had no issues with sleeper sofa in the living room and the main bedroom was a nice size with a comfortable bed.

We could walk to all the Edinburgh sights easily.

Amazing Flat in The City Centre!

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't believe that I found this flat for our trip to Scotland! It's lovely, homey and so close to everything. The little touches in the kitchen were most welcome after our long drive. The water in the shower was hot, and the bed was super comfortable. Our only little quibble was that it did get hot while sleeping. While the air unit in the living room was a thoughtful addition, it wasn't as cool as outside. We would have liked to have been able to open the window in the bedroom, or have a small bedside fan provided. Other than that (a small thing, admittedly), we enjoyed every minute of our stay! Emelie and Owen have provided an amazing base for seeing Edinburgh. Linda was very informative, and made sure we knew how everything worked. She also told us not to hesitate in calling her if we needed anything.

We cannot recommend this flat nearly enough! Would most definitely stay here again when in Scotland. Thank you so much!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the great review, Ali! I just wish that you had contacted us about the bedroom window, because there's no reason why you shouldn't have been able to open it. But I'm glad the rest of your stay was a 5-star experience. We'd be more than happy to have you back in the future if you ever return to Edinburgh :-)

Cosy but well appointed in central location

  • 4 of 5

Flat on Bread Street is located in the central area of the town and a perfect walking distance to many of Edinburgh’s essential spots. Linda, who met us to show the flat, was absolutely lovely as is the flat itself — intimate and quaint with all of the essentials needed to begin your stay in this beautiful town (including paper towels, toilet paper, tea, milk, biscuits, bread, jam/preserves, IRN BRU (local favorite over Coca-Cola), and so on. Fantastic hosts with all the appropriate amenities one would need to have an enjoyable stay.

Sainsbury’s grocery right around the corner is open late and has all you’ll need, including quick grab-and-go foods and alcohol. However, be aware that they stop serving alcohol before they close at night. There is a nice washer to clean your clothes if needed and a handy drop-down clothing hanger in the hallway for drying your clothes afterwards.

They have a Bluetooth speaker and a smart TV with Netflix in the app section.

One small issue was that we were in between 3 adult clubs (which were a bit noisy when they let out at 1AM). The usual eye mask and ear plugs solve this issue

Wonderful Apartment Near the Grassmarket

  • 5 of 5

This one bedroom apartment is an outstanding place to stay. It is central to all there is to do and see in Edinburgh. The owners communicated very thoroughly about the property. We were met by Linda, who is very charming. She briefed us on the apartment and how to use the European features of it. The apartment has been upgraded and modernized. I highly recommend that anyone visiting Edinburgh should consider renting this apartment. Thank you Emilie, Owen and Linda!
