Experience New Orleans in "Grand" style! This magnificent Queen Anne Italianate was built in 1880 for Joseph Walker, the Baron of the St. Charles Railroad (now Streetcar).

Walker Mansion contains 7 separate apartments in the house. Each apartment is PRIVATE with its own Kitchenette/dining, bath(s)/bedroom(s). In addition, there are Common Spaces within the house for ALL the apartments to use (Master Kitchen, Master Dining, and Courtyard).

This particular apartment, Unit 7, used to be the Carriage House. It is located on the back of the property by the back Courtyard. It has 2 bedrooms. The upstairs bedroom has a Queen bed and a private balcony overlooking the Courtyard. The downstairs bedroom has 2 Twin beds arranged like a sectional sofa. It has a brand-new bathroom with amazing shower tower. Unit 7 also has a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker etc. Enjoy the rustic decor which blends shiplap walls with elegant chandeliers.

Walker Mansion has soaring 16 foot ceilings, original hardwood floors with inlay, gorgeous chandeliers, intricate wainscoting and crown molding. The architectural details are stunning.

Common Spaces:

> The Master Kitchen has marble counter tops and top of the line appliances. You can cook a gourmet meal or pop a frozen pizza in the oven.

> The Grand Dining Hall features a beautiful gas fireplace and magnificent chandelier. You can eat your gourmet meal at the dining table or relax with a cup of coffee in one of the comfy seating areas.

> The Courtyard located outside of the Master Kitchen is a great place to smoke a cigar and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

History - Walker Mansion, a beautiful Queen Anne Italianate of the Victorian Era was built in 1880 by famed architect, Thomas Sully, who designed many of the mansions on St. Charles Avenue during that period. The house was built for Colonel Joseph Walker, the Baron of the St Charles Railroad (now Streetcar). He was known as a "Swashbuckling Capitalist" who made his fortune in the gambling business, which was considered a less than honorable profession at that time.

We (Candy & John) bought Walker Mansion in 2017 because we fell in love with its beauty, history, and charm. We split our time between Fort Lauderdale and New Orleans, so you may see us when you visit. (The yacht in the photo is not ours, we live across from Fort Lauderdale Marina.)

Quiet, comfortable, charming

The carriage house was the perfect place for us to spend a long weekend. It is at the back of an absolutely gorgeous house off St Charles Avenue. Beds were comfy. Would definitely stay here again.

If you want to be in the Garden District this is a good local. The Walker Mansion is lovely !

The carriage house was quaint. Very old and authentic. The furnishings were simple and comfortable. I liked having 2 separate sleep areas and 2 tvs while visiting with my son. The bath was well planned and plenty of fresh towels. The stairs are quite steep but plenty of hand rails to navigate. My only complaint is the street car noise and garbage pick up at 6 am. The doors are quite old and the lock was loose. There were bolts on top and bottom but did not work. The side gate should have a lock as well. Beds were great but could use some reading lamps. Did not see another person in 3 days and did not meet the owners but they were quick to respond via text. Inside the mansion was gorgeous! I would book there next time.

Great stay, great place

Stayed here over MLK with my wife and 2 boys; it was a blast!! Everything was clean and the space was well thought out and just the right size for our family. The owners were very quick to respond and communication was great. Will definitely be back to this cute New Orleans style rental!!!

Lovely, Good Location, Quirks

We actually did not stay in the carriage house because of heater trouble and a very cold time in the city. But, Candy was still very accommodating and moved us to a suitable room in the main house. She still showed us the carriage house. Pros to the carriage house: privacy. Not as much street or people noise. Pros to the main house: easier access to the fully equipped kitchen and laundry. The carriage house also has steep stairs. We stayed in a front room (unit 2) and we did hear the traffic and street cars, but not in a way that disturbed our rest. Super easy to catch street car or fairly priced Uber
