Rooftop Aerie is a 3 bedroom 2.25 bathroom house. It was recently remodeled to include a 2,129 square foot rooftop deck. All of the beds and linens are new. The kitchen is fully stocked (blender, juicer, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes for 8, etc.). Even a "give and take" wine rack where visitors can take a bottle of a new wine and leave a bottle of a favorite wine to share with the next guest. Enjoy the reclining leather couch in front of the cozy stove. Rooftop Aerie is heated and cooled with a geothermal system, which is one of the most eco-friendly systems. The propane stove is perfect if you need just a bit more heat in the cool evenings.
Rooftop Aerie is located on 10 acres, looking down across the valley, to see the Cascades and even Mt. Baker. The three rivers (Snohomish, Snoqualmie, and Skykomish) meet at the bottom of the hill. The gardens surrounding the house include flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Enjoy picking your own blueberries and strawberries. Read a book on back porch. Sit under the cedar trees and just dream. The vast lawn is perfect or bocce ball, Frisbee or horseshoes.
Originally designed as a wedding venue, Rooftop Aerie is now a stunning vacation rental. Located near Woodinville, you can spend the day exploring the farmer's markets and antique stores across Snohomish and Snoqualmie Valley. Go shopping in Bellevue (30 minutes). Or, enjoy world-class entertainment, food and museums in Seattle. Don't miss Pike's Place Market, the Museum of Flight, or Experience Music Project! Take a tour of the waterfront, Seattle Underground, or the houseboats on Lake Union. And, ride the famous ferries across Puget Sound. Our area also boasts some of the best rode and mountain biking opportunities. We have numerous golf courses nearby (just ask John, he has golfed them all!). In the fall, salmon run the rivers, attracting anglers from around the world. Our Snohomish airport offers stunning hot air balloons (that float over Rooftop Aerie all summer). Hiking and rock climbing opportunities are plentiful. You can easily rent canoes, kayaks and even small sailboats and enjoy Lake Washington from the water.
Then return to the tranquil beauty of your mountaintop retreat, Rooftop Aerie. Sit on the deck with a glass of lemonade and watch the sun set over the valley.
John and Susan are the proud owners of Rooftop Aerie. They live in a separate house on the property. Susan does all of the gardening and John does the general maintenance. John works at Microsoft at the Redmond campus. Susan is a pediatric speech pathologist and sees children across Snohomish County. In their free time, they enjoy golfing, riding horses, biking, running, and (of course) working on the property.
Please note:
EVENTS AND WEDDINGS - Due to county restrictions, fire codes, parking issues, sanitation limitations, and insurance requirements, etc., we unfortunately can not have any events of any kind at the Rooftop Aerie. Overnight guests are welcome to invite a few (2 or 3?) friends/family members to visit during the day. We ask that this be limited to a few hours. Thank you for your understanding.
John and Susan love the Pacific Northwest. Where else can you mountain bike, kayak, run trails, ride horses, golf, and fish all within 20 minutes of where you live? John grew up in the Tri-Cities. After leaving the Army, he moved to this area to pursue degrees in computer engineering and business. Susan grew up in a tiny town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California. She moved up to Snohomish County after earning her graduate degree in speech pathology. She is fortunate to work in pediatrics as a home care therapist. Although John commutes to Microsoft every day, they still spend lots of time outdoors, either working on the property or just enjoying this unique part of the country.
Susan Sparks and John Anderson purchased this house in 2004
We wanted to live close enough to Bellevue and Seattle for John to pursue his career in computer science. Yet we have horses and dogs and so needed a large piece of land. We also needed two houses so that my parents could live on the property with us. We also wanted room to garden. And, we wanted privacy and trees. Oh, and enough space so that we could bike and horseback ride without having to drive anywhere. Knowing that it would be almost impossible to find all of this in one property, we were stunned when we found Rooftop Aerie. It was perfect. And the view took our breath away! Over the years, family and friends have shared some of the most important events of their life here. So, in 2016, the Rooftop was completely remodeled in order to offer it as a wedding venue. However, due to a number of factors, we chose instead to create a unique, private, spacious vacation retreat. We want to share this spectacular property with others and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.
Rooftop Aerie feels like a mountain retreat and yet it is close enough to the city to allow you to take advantage of all of the events and amenities that the area has to offer.
We have horses, dogs, cats, and the occasional goat on the property. Visiting wildlife include: many deer, wild rabbits, eagles, hawks, owls, and a local bear (but the property is fenced, so the bear is only spotted outside the perimeter :) We also have, of course, many honey bees, hummingbirds, and wild birds. Please know that this IS a farming community, so you can hear duck, sheep and even cows in the early morning.
The house is beautiful inside and out. The owners are wonderful and very helpful if you need anything. I highly recommend staying here...it may be a little out of the way, but a wonderful retreat after being in the city and traffic. It really isn't that far to Seattle and a quick beautiful drive into Monroe. I will stay here again!
This was a first stay in Monroe and it was beautiful. House is very nicely decorated, clean and big. The view is beautiful and serene. Open space on the front and lovey patio to enjoy morning coffee with laughing birds. LOL
Winston( horse) is always there behind the fence to say good morning along with Susan's dog Sunny.
John ans Susan are lovely couple that put a lot of love and care into a property.
My son and I felt welcomed and cared for.
Thank you for wonderful experience.
We were the first ones to rent Rooftop Aerie. It is close to Bellevue and Seattle, so it was convenient for us for work. The place is totally new. It was very clean and everything was well-stocked, which was perfect for all of us to BBQ and cook so we didn’t have to go out for meals. It is also really quiet and relaxing. We liked hanging out on the deck and playing with the owner’s dog, Sunny. The view from the house is amazing. The owners were very responsive. They asked us if we needed anything and when we made suggestions (like Wi-Fi and a blue-tooth speaker), they immediately added it. They even let us have large packages for work to be delivered here and they stored the stuff for us when we were gone for a few days. We told them that we would highly recommend this place. And, we already booked it for another month.
