Nice apartment of the 18th century, newly renovated, two-room (plus kitchen and bathroom is 52m2) spacious, quiet, located in the historic center on the most beautiful square in Caen. Comfort. .All Pedestrian area shops and activities.
Near the Abbaye aux Hommes, the Ducal Palace, Castle and museums.
We could not have chosen a better location or apartment for our stay in Normandy earlier this month. My wife and I, along with our daughters (a teen and pre-teen) stayed in the 18th Century flat owned by Jocelyn and Jean- Francois.
It was a small and cozy apartment that served our purpose wonderfully. While booking the accommodation, I inquired if the sofa sleeper would be adequate for both the girls. They responded by promising to place an additional mattress, which was there when we reached.
Upon arrival at the Caen train station, we rented a car and promptly got lost. It took us quite a while to get to the flat, where Jocelyn was waiting patiently for us. We were greeted by home-baked muffins and a bottle of wine. The kitchen was also adequately stocked with bread, butter, jams, a few eggs, milk.....
The location was just perfect. We drove all over Caen, the neighboring towns/villages and of course the Alied Landing Beaches over the next 3 days. We reached on a Thursday afternoon and Friday morning we saw a complete street market come up in the square......farmers market, souvenirs, street food, flea market and even a fish market. We spent a couple hours wandering in and out of various stalls. There are many cafes & restaurants nearby and one could easily spend a couple of days exploring all of them. The first night we were there, we got hungry around midnight and were surprised to see many restaurants open. My favorite was Cafe Latin.
At the end of our stay, Jocelyn saw how enamored we were with the old building and its charm, that she gave us a tour of her home upstairs.
You bet we will be back again; to explore more of the charm of French countryside.
Jean-Francois and Jocelyne are extraordinarily wonderful and welcoming hosts and if they are not around their neighbours and friends welcome you with equal warmth! The apartment is stunning and comfortable and is ideally located for exploring the city of Caen or accessing the Normandy coastline and towns. Make sure that you shop at the local market on Fridays until 1pm in Place Saint Sauveur and use the kitchen to cook up some treats in your own little french abode. We highly recommend staying here, this was our fourth time and no doubt we will return again and again as long as Jean-Francois and Jocelyne will have us!
We have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday in Caen staying at this lovely 18th Century apartment in St. Sauveur Place. Our hosts Jean-Francois and Jocelyn are charming and could not have been more hospitable - the apartment is well appointed and immaculately clean. They had also equipped the apartment with necessities such as tea, coffee, various condiments and some nice treats like little cakes, chocolates, beer and wine - a very nice touch! Jean-Francois kindly allowed us to park at the apartment because he and Jocelyn were to be away as they live upstairs, this of course would not always be possible. We also were able to sit in the private garden. The situation of the apartment is in a pedestrianised old square, close to the L'Abbaye des Hommes - there is a market on Fridays, a boulangerie/patisserie 50 yards away, an upmarket restaurant next door and several bars. The bars appear to serve pizzas later in the evening, but generally they are drinking establishments for students. We had dinner in Le Manufacture, the restaurant next door, which was good (110 euros for 3 courses with wine). There are also several Italian restaurants close-by. The main restaurant area is in Rue Vaugueux near to the castle and we tried a couple of places there.
Would definitely recommend Le Fauteuil Rouge and would stay again when in Caen.
Many thanks to Jean-Francois and Jocelyn.

Probably the best VRBO property we have ever stayed in. The hosts, Jean-Francois and Jocelyn certainly have it right, their guests are treated like royalty. We were picked up from the train station and arrived at the residence to find a nice bottle of wine and freshly baked goodies waiting for us. Also there some staple items of food and refreshments available to ensure we had breakfast in the mornings. We were touring the area and Jean-Francoise was fantastic in providing with us information on how to get around which is actually quite easy by train, bus or tram. When we asked about bicycle rentals in the area they even offer up the use of their own bicycles for us. The apartment is situated nearby many of the important attractions, shopping and restaurants which makes walking easy as well. Our sincere thanks to our hosts for making us feel very much at home and you will not go wrong if you chose to have a stay with them

Our stay at the apartment in Caen was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. We were only sorry that our stay was so short. Maybe longer next time! The apartment was beautiful & decorated in true French style. Jean-Francois & Jocelyne were very gracious hosts & waited for us even though we were late arriving. The fridge was stocked with a few supplies along with a bottle of wine & some homemade muffins. Truly thoughtful. Jean-Francois was kind enough to drive us to the ferry terminal when we were leaving. I would have no problem recommending this apartment to anyone. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Hope to see you again.

This lovely apartment was our base of operations while we explored Normandy. It was absolutely perfect. The 18th century building is beautiful and the apartment has all the modern comforts you need. Jean-Francois and Jocelyn are fabulous hosts providing tourist information, a lovely bottle of wine and food......including Jocelyn's homemade mini apple cakes. The apartment is a few minutes walk from great restaurants, shopping, and places to see. Wie would definitely stay here again!
