Maes y Gwy is one of two cottages located on a 126 acre working farm, just 1.5 miles from the delightful village of Shirenewton with its 3 friendly local country pubs. Chepstow, home to the oldest surviving stone castle in Britain is only a short drive away. This really is castle country, in addition to Chepstow there are several nearby including Caldicot and Raglan.

Chepstow is an historic market town and from medieval times it was the busiest port in Wales. It is also famous for its Racecourse (only 5 miles from your luxury self catering, Monmouthshire) home to the Welsh National. 5 miles to the north of Chepstow is Tintern with its ruined abbey and stunning natural scenery making it a popular tourist destination. Monmouthshire as a whole is also developing a reputation for its high quality restaurants and the nearest Michelin restaurant is located just 11 miles from Maes y Gwy cottage.

The Wye Valley & Vale of Usk contains around 1,500 miles of public rights of way. The nearest walks pass through the Farm. With many more including the Wye Valley Walk, Usk Valley Walk, Brecon and Monmouthshire canal and the famous Offa's Dyke Path that runs along the Welsh-English border. In its 177miles / 285 kilometres it passes through no less than eight different counties and crosses the border between England and Wales over 20 times.

Located just five miles from the Severn bridge, these luxury cottages are also well placed for the M4 and M5 corridors and for visiting Newport, Cardiff and Bristol. The Royal Forest of Dean is about an hour away.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The farm cottage was exactly what I was looking for! Perfect for my son and I. We both loved all the animals and surrounding areas. The hosts could not have been more welcoming, some how always being available yet never intrusive. I can't wait to visit again!!!
