I love the antiquity and the beauty of this place... without forgetting the comfort.
I love this region steeped in history and its proximity to Paris.
Thanks to its comfort, its charm and its location, I think Prieuré de Rochefort can seduce active persons as well as contemplative persons and families as well as groups of friends.
We recently spent a week at Le Prieuré de Rochfort and had a wonderful time. The house was exactly as advertised (actually better than we could imagine). We cooked, had lunch in the garden, had friends to stay - ate, drank and laughed. This is a part of France we had not visited before but it is very beautiful with lovely little towns around to visit, a nice market in Pierrefonds (we can highly recommend the butcher there who is more than accommodating) and specially cut a lamb shoulder for my husband who was making a Navarin d'agneau (very delicious). The property backs on to the Compiègne Forest which is very peaceful and was just bursting with spring - the bluebells were just starting to bloom which gave a shadow of blue to the forest floor. We visited the Canadian National memorial at Vimy on April 9th, the 99th anniversary of the battle and were humbled yet again.
In short this is everything you could want in a holiday - a most amiable hostess and her extremely helpful henchman Anibale who looked after us when Marie-Françoise was not there, an entertaining donkey and Highland cow, a friendly cat and a most beautiful house and garden. We were enchanted.
We arrived from our 2 half hour journey from Calais to be meet by Anibal our host for the week, he could not have been more helpful he even took us to the supermarket in his car and give us some gorgeous rhubarb and blackcurrant jam . The house itself is in a lovely location near the forest , there are few nice walks right through the forest . The house is really spacious and well furnished with everything that you would need for a family holiday. This area of France is a ideal place to explore loads of places like Peirrefond which is really gem of a place, parc asterix a theme park a hour away and Beauvais a hours drive away and well worth a visit for the cathedral alone. Would recommend this place to anyone .
This is a beautiful house. It is spacious, very well laid out and has everything you could possibly need for a good holiday. The garden is lovely and peaceful and our two grandchildren enjoyed running around and feeding the cow and the donkey.
Madame Roy is an excellent host. She took care of us and gave good sight-seeing suggestions without being at all intrusive.
There are good walks in the forest directly from the property. There is a good boulangerie in the village and a surprisingly well stocked little gift shop in the square. There are also a few useful shops including 2 supermarkets in the nearest small town (abou5 - 6 kms). Nearby towns that are worth a visit included Pierrefonds, Compiegne and Soissons. There are a lot of sites of historical interest. This was not an area of France that we knew but we enjoyed exploring it. The Pieure was a wonderful place to stay and we would thoroughly recommend it.
This is a fantastic property tucked away above a sleepy village in the woods.
Marie Françoise made us feel at home from the moment we arrived at the Prieuré.
The location was perfect for us: a short drive from Calais, but within easy reach of Paris. We took the train into the city one day, and drove to Versailles another (in August when the Parisiennes are on holiday the infamous Périphérique is drivable!)
There are numerous Great War sites within an hour's drive, such as Thiepval and many of the Somme battlefields. The 1918 was signed just a few kilometres away where there is a small museum and memorial - well worth a visit.
This property is a real gem.
We have just have had a fabulous stay at Le Prieurié. It was extremely comfortable, clean, warm and spacious ( for ten)!
The first of the group had a very late arrival and Marie Françoise's family made us extremely welcome at such a late hour.
If you enjoy a quiet spacious location which is not too far off the beaten track Rochefort is the place for you!
