Why Alecia Armstrong chose Ludlow / Okemo Mountain Area

Centrally located between Killington & Okemo. We are in the heart of Vermont off historic Route 100. What sets us apart are our quaint bedrooms with high quality linens, down comforters, 100% Egyptian cotton towels and multiple amenities offered that other properties don't.

The cottage is such a relaxing, calming place. We have added many "must-have" conveniences with high quality creature comforts because it needs to be "THAT" special place. We love entertaining at the cottage because the set-up is so "party friendly" and there is plenty of room for many friends to stay. There is an option to expand this property to 6 bedrooms, please inquire. The area is packed with fun things to do such as shopping in beautiful Woodstock, skiing/hiking at either Killington or Okemo, Long Trail Brewery lunches, tours & samples at the Plymouth Cheese Factory, and trips to Buttermilk Falls to name only a few. Harry's is our favorite restaurant and is less than 10 minutes down the road. Check out our FB page for the latest updates: Vermont Cottage or Lake Amherst Cottage.

Alecia inherited this property from her grandparents who built it in 1934. The grandmother was a Brown and a descendant of founding father Nathaniel Bowman Brown who 'camped at the head of Lake Amherst during the Revolutionary War.' He returned to Plymouth after the war and along with other early settlers settled the town of 'Saltash' which is now Plymouth. Alecia believes that Nathaniel may have very well camped near or on the land that she now owns along with her husband and children.

What makes this house unique

Centrally located between Okemo & Killington, beautiful surroundings, privacy, and definitely not 'cookie cutter' atmosphere. This is a family cottage that is much loved and cared for. When you come to stay you will feel like you are visiting friends and not renting a 'unit' or 'profit mill' property.

Please read reviews written by our past guests.

A perfectly perfect VT experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our west coast family of 4 had the most relaxing and fun getaway at this very charming cottage on beautiful Lake Amherst. This was our first taste of VT and we found it to be delightful, largely due to this cozy and hospitable lakeside cottage. As rental owners ourselves and especially because we were visiting from such a distance, we really appreciated the warm atmosphere, generous furnishings and all the toys made available to us. All we had to do was show up! We kayaked, swam, jumped on the water trampoline, sunbathed on the dock, and played croquet. With two boys a bon fire was a nightly event. We adored the spacious screened in porch for dining, morning coffee and evening cocktails. The view of the lake and surrounding mountains was captivating. The area is also a triathlete's training heaven! The owner was gracious, friendly and delivered as promised and than some. We admired how well cared for and organized the house and grounds are and made a few mental notes for our own cottages on the Cape! We had a lovely dinner at the Woodstock Inn and really enjoyed that town for its shopping and covered bridges. This location is perfectly situated within short distance of cute towns to explore and ski areas to hike or bike but frankly, once settled in it's hard to want to leave the cottage and its perch on the lake! We would recommend this cottage in a heartbeat and have already touted its praises to our friends who are looking for the quintessential New England experience.

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

We had a awesome time at Lake Amherst Cottage, loved having the master bedroom with views of the Lake, the porch with the rocking chairs were just perfect! the children loved the hammock on the porch. The porch, it was very magical when lit up at night. we enjoyed smores on the fire pit, and did some fishing and kayaking. There was plenty of room for the kids and the dog to play. Alecia was great to work with, she responded within and hour of requesting to rent. I will love to rent again, and have passed on to friends and extended family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for being such wonderful guests. The spring weather certainly was cooperative and we are happy to hear that you were able to enjoy the big porch overlooking the lake as well as that magical feeling with all the lights! The porch hammock is certainly very popular. Happy to hear you've spread the word and want to come back. We look forward to having you.

We had an amazing stay! Thank you for offering this lovely (large) cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The beds are so compfy, my son has never slept so good. The location is magical and the lake is peaceful and has wonderful wildlife. The cottage is a "home" and was better equipped then my house, inspired me to go buy new bedding and chimes the day we got back to our neighborhood. Thank you so much again for one of the best vacations we have ever had.

Owner's Response: You were wonderful guests and we are happy to hear you had a nice time. The geese, ducks, and the bald eagle with her baby are always fascinating & entertaining. We're glad you got to experience that! Also happy to hear that your stay inspired you at your own home. We really do strive to make it THAT special place for vacationing. Leave your cares at home and relax with creature comforts and all the amenities. We hope you return!

Amazing location, amazing property, amazing home.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location on Rt 100 in-between Killington and Ludlow. Spacious home and well cared for. You can view the lake from two of bedrooms (literally while sitting in bed). Kitchens are wonderful, lots of wood for fireplace. Whether you want to be active and do things around the area or just stay at the lake and home there is plenty to do. We look forward to staying again.

Truly Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many rentals by owners, but this is by far the best one. It is evident that the owner really loves this place. We have stayed at this cottage many times, so when the owner asked me to write a review I was happy. If you are looking for a quaint and quintessential stay, this is it! Unless, of course, you want the same week we do. Seriously, the cottage is full of unpretentious creature comforts that make us feel comfy and cozy. It is immaculate and well-organized. The kitchen is decked out with anything you could want (better than my own home) with an added bonus of a pantry stocked with fun whimsical platters, serving trays, and unique everything. There was even real silverware and cloth napkins! The kitchen is efficient, and “user-friendly”. A gas stove was a plus as I love to cook and plenty of refrigerator space! We love having an additional kitchen upstairs so that our teenage kids and friends can make their own pizzas etc. The bedrooms are huge and the bed linens are high quality. We felt like we were in a five-star hotel while we slept. I really need to find out where to get those sheets! We enjoyed the fireplace so much because it is rare that you can find a place with a wood-burning fireplace and so appreciated the abundance of wood in the nearby woodshed. A nightly bonfire was the rule after kayaking and swimming every day. The lake beach is the best. It’s private with easy dock access. That dock is spectacular. The kids love the floating dock anchored out in the lake as well. We enjoyed walks on the hiking trails and dirt road which we learned is an old road from the Revolutionary War. Now it makes sense that Lake Amherst is named after General Jeffrey Amherst. I must brush up on my American history. I could go on….The owner is responsive and caring. We had some questions and Alecia was more than helpful. We weren’t disappointed and you be won’t either.

Owner's Response: Pamela and family, It is always a pleasure to have you and your family come and stay. I appreciate how well you care for the cottage while you are staying; like it is your own. I'm happy you got to experience the fall colors this year as they really were spectacular. I look forward to your next visit this summer and hope you will find more fun updates to enjoy. Alecia PS: The sheets are from Anichini, a store in Quechee, Vermont. Some bedding from Company C in Portsmouth, NH as well.
