Our bayfront hideaway cottages are located in the middle Keys on a small island called 'Conch Key'. The island is the smallest island in the Keys. It is reminiscent of a quaint Bahamian lobster fishing village, with colorful cottages nestled closely together. Rustic wharves are charmingly cluttered with lobster traps, nets, and fishing gear. There is a well kept secret that lobster and fish are both plentiful. Back country fishing and off shore sport fishing are readily available.
Our ideal location, in the middle Keys, will allow you to visit both Key West and Key Largo, each approximately one hour away.
We have two waterfront cottages available (and one waterview) and do offer a 23' foot sailboat for qualified sailors. Additionally, we offer dock space with water and electricity for our guests wanting to bring their own boat for some of the best fishing in the world. Our units are impeccably clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated.
Since 1988, we have taken pride in the fact that we have the cleanest, most well-maintained accommodations in the Florida Keys!

We purchased this spectacular property from the original owners, Tom and Peggy Horachek, who developed this unique vacation concept, in a great Keys location.
Barry Franzen purchased this house in 2014
These bay front cottages include the use of a 23' sailboat, kayaks, and bicycles for no additional charge. Additionally, we offer launching, trailer storage and docking space for guests wanting to bring their own boat for some fabulous Keys fishing.
Conch Key is located conveniently in the middle islands, only 63 miles to Key West. Qualified sailers can sail the protected waters of the Gulf of Mexico or just walk across the street to our Atlantic Ocean snorkel site. Bicycle (or walk/jog) across Henry Flaglers old railroad bridge . Visit the nature trails of Long Key State Park, swim with the dolphins at the Dolphin Research Center nearby, or just sit under the coconut trees and enjoy the island life.
Bayfront rentals caught our attention in 2006 when an article called Conch Key the Nantucket of the FL Keys. Having grown up in MA, we had to see the cottages. And we discovered our perfect vacation getaway; an old fishing cottage on the water with a sailboat at the dock. If you want a resort, look elsewhere. If you like cozy and charming, this 2 bedroom cottage is for you. It is decorated in all things nautical including 2 bookcases full of old books, charts and pictures. It is a great place to relax or get out and have an adventure. Since 2006 we have visited 5 time; 3 in the last 18 months. Currently planning to go back in November. While they advertise the cottage & sailboat included in the rental, there are bicycles and kayaks also included. Conch Key is a great location in the middle Keys; an easy drive to Marathon for local restaurants and sights or further south to Key West. Plenty of sights and restaurants are available heading back north as well, to Islamorada or other Keys. We highly recommend visiting and enjoying all the Keys have to offer.
We arrived to begin our Honeymoon and arrived to a stunning tropical waterfront treetop cottage with all the amenities including a sailboat!! Our cottage was true to pictures/even better!! Very well maintained and very clean!! As we did our best to keep it that way during our stay! Now onto our experience....Which was Great/Awesome from start to finish!! Met Danny and Michele.... so very friendly, helpful, and wonderful!!! Enjoyed them and they made our stay the best! We had the best of all worlds.....Warm temperatures, beautiful scenery, and plenty of outdoor activities!! From just relaxing at our dock to being as active as you chose!! We are sailors and very active....so we took it all in: Sailed, kayaked, rode bikes, went to the dolphin research enter (thanks Capt. Tom and Peggy!!), and just relaxed on our balcony and boat dock!! Loved our own little ecosystem right there at the dock....saw everything from a shark, parrot fish, stingray, barracuda, crabs, anemone on coral, and all kinds of tropical birds!! Danny and Michele were a great source for great places to go, from restaurants to beaches!! Were very accommodating and made you feel super welcome and at home.....Wonderful Hosts!! Just as are Capt. Tom and Peggy!!!!!!! We appreciated and enjoyed the wine that waited for us in our cottage, a very nice touch!! So, all in all a vacation (vacation place) we will always remember and special that we were lucky enough to spend our Honeymoon!! Will hold a special place in our hearts always....the place and people!!! We did not want to leave and threatened not too... but Danny and Michele said the people renting after us would probably solve that. LOL We will be returning for more fun and relaxation and to visit the friends we made while at our cottage! Counting the months....not soon enough!! So, Thanks to Danny and Michele and Capt. Tom and Peggy for such a special place, experience, and adventures we had there!! A Wonderful time/Honeymoon!! <3
When we arrived we were greeted by the property managers, Danny and Michelle, and they were there for any questions we had throughout our stay. They definitely want to meet the needs of their guests and you can tell they enjoy being there for their guests. The owners, Captain Tom and Peggy, were very easy to communicate with and also want their guests to enjoy their property. They are very professional and friendly at the same time. The property is very clean and well maintained and the photos were accurate although, it is even more beautiful than the photos. It is a place you can go for a week and never have to leave the little island if that is your desire. We would recommend this property to anyone that enjoys the "non resort" relaxed type atmosphere. Perfect for relaxation and enjoying nature, long bike rides, sunset and sunrise viewing, bird watching, and if you enjoy relaxing water activities, you will enjoy the ambience of this property.
From start to finish these folks do everything right and seem to have fun doing it. The owners (Capt. Tom & Peggy) and the managers (Danny & Michele) respond quickly to any questions you have and treat you like guests in their home. We stayed in the Treetop Cottage and sailed, explored neighboring keys as well as Key West, hiked and just hung out on our balcony drinking champagne in the morning and cocktails/wine in the evenings. Life is very good on Conch Key.
We stocked up on food and drink in Marathon, ate lobster Reuben sandwiches at Key Fisheries, then bought shrimp and crab cakes at their market to cook at home. The sailing is shoal water, but Danny’s check-out and charts helped immensely. The weather was a balmy 80 degrees and sunny---a far cry from the Pacific Northwest in February! If you want a comfortable, clean, well equipped cottage surrounded by palm trees, glorious sunsets, warm water, good times, and even neighbors who offer you oranges for fresh juice, this is the place for you.
I spent four great days in this lovely cottage with my friend Steve and Jo-Ann. The sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, bike rides and daily walks were great. Sitting on the dock and watching the beautiful Florida sunset and the starry nights were exhilarating. If you're an early riser, you can also experience the beautiful sunrise. There is plenty to do, with very nice beaches, sightseeing, food, restaurants and bars. Everything in the cottage is in very good shape and well maintained. The locals on Conch Key were very friendly. Capt. Tom was very friendly and went out of his way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I would recommend this place if you want to rest, relax and do some exciting outdoor activities!!!!
Great vacaton, wish it was longer. Sailing off your own dock, hanging on your waterfront porch, the occasional Manatee visitor.. and all the comforts of home.
Stop by Check it out.. say Hi to Capt Tom for me.
