Middle Florida Keys Bayfront Hideaways with Sailboat, near Marathon and Key West

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 bedroom house with sailboat, kayaks, and bicycles included

Our bayfront hideaway cottage is located in the middle Keys on a small island called 'Conch Key', and offers some of the best sailing in the Gulf anywhere in the Keys. Our guests have exclusive use of 23', well maintained, ComPac sailboats, for the duration of their stay. The island is the smallest island in the Keys. It is reminiscent of a quaint Bahamian lobster fishing village, with colorful cottages nestled closely together. Rustic wharves are charmingly cluttered with lobster traps, nets, and fishing gear. There is a well kept secret that lobster and fish are both plentiful. Back country fishing and off shore sport fishing are readily available.

Our ideal location near Marathon, in the middle Keys, will allow you to visit both Key West and Key Largo, each approximately one hour away. Additionally, we offer dock space with water and electricity for our guests wanting to bring their own boat for some of the best fishing in the world. Impeccably clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated.

Since 1988, we have taken pride in the fact that we have the cleanest, most well-maintained accommodations in the Florida Keys!

Lovely cottage with nice sailing options

  • 4 of 5

The cottage and hosts are fabulous! The house and kitchen are well equipped and it has whimsical and antique decorations. When the internet went out, they accommodated us with their network and worked to get us back online. I was bothered by the noise of the traffic, but my housemates did not seem to be as sensitive. The key is isolated and if you want to bike or kayak much, I suggest you bring a rack so you can take the bikes and boats to one of the parks or larger islands. Riding (or kayaking) beside the busy road is not my idea of a relaxing trip! The sailboat was in good condition and designed for cruising and did well in moderate winds. The bay has some shallow areas but was pretty easy to navigate, and we went out as far as the Intercoastal Waterway with little other boat traffic to contend with. Very nice! Lots of birds to see and many attractions in Marathon (and beyond) to enjoy.

Owner's Response: We are glad you had a good time, we make it our mission to give a five star experience for every guest. Since Hurricane Irma, there has been a lot of re-building and the traffic on HWY 1 is 24/7 with supplies, contractors and debris removal. Most accommodations are close to the highway, and subsequently hard to get away from the traffic noise. We expect this to diminish over the next year, and the traffic noise decrease, but realize it may be an issue for some guests. We make our guest experience the best we can, however issues like traffic and unresponsive cable companies are beyond our control. We will always guarantee our best efforts to make our guests stay memorable on Conch Key, the last of it's kind in the Keys. With a sailboat, kayaks, bicycles, passes to the Dolphin Research Center, and State Parks included, we strive to offer our guests a package vacation not found anywhere in the Keys. We hope you will come back and visit us again!

Super clean, cozy, low-key cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, two adults and two 20-something children stayed the week before Christmas. Although like all owners in the Keys, Barry, his wife and friends had a good bit of work to do to get the cottage back up and running after Hurricane Irma, the place was in nearly perfect order when we arrived. Moreover, given all the fun boating paraphernalia decorating both inside and outside the cottage, I was frankly stunned that there was not even a speck of dust anywhere! Beyond cleanliness, the cottage is perfectly cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking together in the kitchen, eating and playing games at the dining table, and relaxing on the porch for breakfasts and sunsets. Needless to say, it is also fabulous to be able to simply walk out your door and sail away when ever you want. We took bikes for a ride one day, and following Barry's advice, walked just across the tiny key and bought freshly caught lobster for dinner right off the boat another. Conch key is also well situated if you want to be able to spend a day in Key West or Key Largo, but do not want to spend all your time among the crowds of tourists. Marathon, just minutes south, has all the restaurants, shops and scuba/snorkeling businesses you will need if you choose to just stay put on Conch Key. As was apparent from the piles of debris still lining most of Highway 1, many in the older Florida cottages did not survive the Hurricane. Thank goodness this delightful one did. Finally regarding one issue - the road noise - my comment is do not worry. Like almost every other building in the Keys, this one is not far from Highway 1. Nevertheless, unless the wind is blowing a particular direction and you are listening for it, you will not hear or much notice any road noise. What you will notice is the peace and quiet, maybe fish jumping in the water, and the cute little neighborhood of Conch Key. If you like to sail - and even if you don't - and are looking for a cute, casual and comfortable place to make your own vacation, Conched Out is an excellent choice.

Fishing on the dock of the Bayfront Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Cute, quaint Keys cottage. Nice location in the middle keys, convenient to Marathon and Islamorada. Great spot for our family of 4. We all loved being able to fish off the docks and use the kayaks to fish and check out the bay. Use of the bikes also was a great addition. We biked to Long Key one morning. Barry was very helpful and fun to talk to. We'll be back!

Best place ever

  • 5 of 5

Best place ever. Very comfortable and welcoming. Everything you need to have a great vacation. We saw a huge family of manatees right at the dock. The sea life every where, even under the dock, was mind blowing. We followed and fell in love with a group of parrot fish who stay under one of the sailboats. Caught lobster right off the dock! Barry and Tammy supplied everything needed to have a blast, from the cottage to the canoes to the sailboats. Great price for your own slice of heaven. For all who are getting booted out of Duck Key for the no one week rental thing, this is the place for you. We would have given them 6 stars but they only allow us 5 stars. So if u like to catch, cook and eat lobster on a private dock during the amazing sunset then this is the place for you. We would highly recommend booking with Barry and Tammy, just not on our week LOL.

Great 2 bedroom cottage

  • 5 of 5

Bayfront rentals caught our attention in 2006 when an article called Conch Key the Nantucket of the FL Keys. Having grown up in MA, we had to see the cottages. And we discovered our perfect vacation getaway; an old fishing cottage on the water with a sailboat at the dock. If you want a resort, look elsewhere. If you like cozy and charming, this 2 bedroom cottage is for you. It is decorated in all things nautical including 2 bookcases full of old books, charts and pictures. It is a great place to relax or get out and have an adventure. Since 2006 we have visited 5 time; 3 in the last 18 months. Currently planning to go back in November. While they advertise the cottage & sailboat included in the rental, there are bicycles and kayaks also included. Conch Key is a great location in the middle Keys; an easy drive to Marathon for local restaurants and sights or further south to Key West. Plenty of sights and restaurants are available heading back north as well, to Islamorada or other Keys. We highly recommend visiting and enjoying all the Keys have to offer.
