Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in the home for our 28th wedding anniversary. The home is lovely and the view is absolutely breathtaking. Even though the weather was a bit gray, the temperatures were very moderate and the rainy weather allowed us to catch up on some reading time. It was a very quiet neighborhood and swimming under the stars at night in the private pool was way more than we bargained for. I highly recommend this location, and the owner is very accomodating with our requests.

Amazing Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

We are a family from British Columbia, Canada. We had four adults and one 19 month baby and stayed Apr 1-16/2015. I cannot rave enough about our experience with the house, Evone and Jerry. Both Evone and Jerry were very helpful when I had any questions or concerns. The staff at the security office was very friendly as well. The instructions and directions sent to us for our arrival were dead on and the house was extremely easy to find from the airport! Because we were travelling with a baby they arranged for a crib, highchair and booster seat to be at the house so we didn't have to rent or bring our own. The house was in great shape, considering its age. I am a clean fanatic and I found the cleanliness of the house to be pretty good. The house came with some pool toys that my daughter really enjoyed. We found that between the fans and the windows being open the breeze was nice and refreshing with no need for the air conditioning (even though the temp was 28-30 degrees celsius the entire time we were there). Some window coverings would have been nice especially in the bedrooms. The pool was amazing and the views are to die for. The kitchen was very nice. There are a couple sets of stairs only 2-3 stairs per set, my baby has always been blocked from stairs at home but she mastered going up and down the stairs very well while we were there and I wasn't worried about her being around them at all. The light switches were somewhat confusing but after a couple days we were able to figure them out and they also left a book how to use them for people who have issues with them. The house is bright and beautiful when you walk in. If we return to Kona we would most definitely stay at this house again without hesitation. Checkout was suppose to be at 10am and our flight wasn't leaving until 9pm, I contacted Evone about a later checkout, she was so helpful and understanding. The house is very close to restaurants, downtown shopping, grocery store, beaches, pharmacy, etc... We went to Hilo (about 1.45 hours from house) and did the Helicopter tour over the volcano which was amazing, we went to the seahorse farm (super cool) and to the zoo (which my baby loved). The grounds crew and pool cleaner were super friendly and didn't cause any disruption when they came. Staying at a house verse a condo or hotel (especially with a baby) was so relaxing and fun, couldn't have asked for a better holiday. Thank you Jerry, Evone and everyone else for contributing to an amazing vacation

Wonderful Staycation

  • 4 of 5

We are a family from Oahu (5 adults/2 children ages9 and 14) It was a staycation.

This was a wonderful home to stay in, instead of a hotel. The home was clean enough. Bright and Airy. This home was comfortable to be in and the daily rate was reasonable. We cooked several meals at home. There was a shopping center nearby so we could go to the market, drugstore, and ate Mexican food there.

The master bedroom was beautiful with a jacuzzi. Granddaughters enjoyed it everyday. They also enjoyed the pool everyday. Supervising them was easy because the living room, dining room and kitchen is on the same level with the pool. The views of the ocean and sunsets were great.

This home is located near the town. One day we drove all the way to visit Volcano National Park and on another day played with snow on Mauna Kea. Also went snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach Park.

Evone, the person I was in touch with and Shari the housekeeper was very helpful!

Great Location, Awesome View

  • 4 of 5

We spent Christmas through mid February in this house. Location is fantastic, View from the pool is Awesome got even better with the removal of a flowering thorn tree on January 2, 2015. Now you can see straight to Kona Pier. The house has 2 1/2 baths 3 bedrooms and a large game room with pool table, foosball table, dart game and very dated TV's in all rooms except the master bedroom (which does not have a TV). The house in pretty good shape considering it is about 30 years old and has only basic upkeep maintenance done to it. There are no window coverings which cause a big issue about 5 pm in the afternoon when the back gets direct sunlight. This causes the temperature in the house to raise by about 20 degrees. I was told you did not need air at this height but found we needed the air almost every day during our stay. The air was adequate except the unit in the Master never did work. The house is quiet except in the master bathroom where you might just as well have been sitting with the neighbors at their outside table. You could hear virtually every word they were saying.

Be careful of the many steps and levels in this house especially if you have children or elderly staying with you. The kitchen is the one area that has had money spent on it with a gourmet kitchen that extends through the dinning area to an outdoor Kitchen area with gas grill. The lighting system in the house in complicated to say the least. Not sure what happened to on/off dimmers switches. Looked like someone tried to get cute with European switches of some sort that don't work properly. All in all I would highly recommend this vacation rental. Wish I could share the sunset view with you. I guess you will have to book it and see for yourself. Awesome and all in Paradise.

I don’t recommend this house

  • 1 of 5

I have decided to take a moment and share our terrible and unfortunate experience. Upon our arrival, we were very disappointed. The house was extremely neglected, and I am at a lack of words to describe how filthy it was. I am not a cleaning fanatic, far from it. However I had to clean all the inside of the kitchen cabinets and wardrobes, as they were disgustingly filthyHaving travelled half way around the world, needless to say we were jetlagged and tired. On the 1st day we noticed that many light bulbs were missing throughout the house.Upon our second day of our arrival, we contacted the owner, and he sent a handy man to repare a few things. I would have appreciated had this been done prior to our arrival, since we were after all on holidaysThe repairs were obviously not due to something that had broken just 24 hours prior to our arrival. Pieces of wallpaper falling off the walls, the lighting over the kitchen table was not working, the screens in the windows were dirty and torn, filthy shower curtain, no window convering in all rooms. With the brightness of the day, we were greeted by the sun at 6 o’clock in the morning. The paint in the pool was caling, patio furniture was old dirty and rusted. Oh yes, the BBQ was also broken. The sound system dis not work. Not that not having any batteries in the T.V. remote control is a tragedy, however I expected and took for granted that the remote should have been working. There was a vacuum cleaner, however it was broken and therefor could not be used. No cleaning tools such as a pale or mop to clean the floors…must I truly go on!Unfortunately there was a pipe that burst in the master bedrooms bathroom during the night. This created a massive overflow of water into the master bedroom. The owner showed up the following day with a helper to vacuum the water that had infiltrated to the master bedroom carpet. No furniture was displaced to do a thural cleaning. The smell of mildew remained throughout our stay. The lack of concern by the owner to see if everything was all right the following days was non existing and frankly quite disturbing . A cleaning lady had been promised to come and do a proper cleaning, however she never showed up throughout the stayBy the way, the view from the pool was beautiful.Even though the owner seems to think all is fine, he so generously went to get a vacuum cleaner and BBQ upon our request.I would never go back or recommend this house. Owner's Response: I don't know where to start. These people came in from Canada. English by their own admission is a second language and communication was not the best. The home was cleaned by the same service I've used for the past two years, the same service that has cleaned for other guests who have taken the time to offer great reviews. They telephoned me on the first day of occupancy. Complained about dust and I sent the cleaning service over again. You will note that they deny the cleaning service arrived. However, these guests were competing in the Ironman and were out of the house, evidently training, when the service responded. They say my repairman fixed a couple of items but, in fact, he fixed everything they identified on their list. They complained the vacuum was not working, although I've since determined it works. I bought a new vacuum cleaner. They complained the BBQ didn't work although I've since found it works fine. The ignition switch doesn't work so it has to be lit by the BBQ lighter, left in plain sight. I bought a new BBQ. On Sunday morning (when all service agencies are closed) they telephoned to say the bathroom was flooding. I was there within 15 minutes and had a plumber there in 30 minutes. SOMEONE had tinkered with the under-sink metal braid "hoses". It was simply pulled out SOMEHOW. It wasn't deteriorated and it wasn't a pressure pipe. Curious. The wallpaper they complained about are in the master bath and it has "seams" slightly curling in 2 places. It's the curse of being located in a humid island climate. There were absolutely NO PIECES falling off the wall. Batteries were supplied within minutes when they needed replacements. The sound system DOES work although they never requested instructions on its operation. There is NO PAINT in the Pool so it wasn't peeling. What is most disturbing is the orange stain on a cream colored carpet left by these tenants. I point this out to them when I first responded to their complaints explaining I had personally inspected the home before their arrival and noticed no stains. They took offense at the suggestion that they created the problem. I've been renting this home for several years and rarely have requests let alone complaints. However, due to this report I have cancelled the next two week booking to have various cleaning and repair servicemen go over the home thouroughly.

This is a roomy house at one time probably beautiful. However it has not been kept up. Housekeeping did not clean. Rust and dirt. Microwave greasy inside. Wallpaper coming apart at seams . White carpet, dirty. Had to kill large coch roaches daily. The pool is really dirty filter is not working. The office staff were great. But I think they are unaware that housekeeping is not doing their job and that house is not being kept up. The view is awesome. The pool would have been good but you don't dare get in it. Sad to give such a negative report but staying in small hotel room is better than this

Owner's Response: The home was inspected immediately upon receiving the client's comments but they were communicated AFTER the clients vacated. There was no opportunity to correct any alleged deficiencies. There was no complaints while the client occupied the premises. So, it was impossible to determine if the home was properly cleaned upon their arrival. Although rare, if a tenant finds something needs attention they will let the manager know and the item is immediately rectified. The home is professionally cleaned before each occupancy. The pool is professionally cleaned and inspected weekly. There is weekly pest control by Terminex. There were some leaves in the pool when we inspected but otherwise it was crystal clear. It's impossible to keep leaves from the trees from occasionally falling into the pool and we provide the pole nets for clients to pick out those occasional leaves. Notwithstanding our inspection and the lack of deficiencies we immediately offered the client consideration for the perceived inadequacy without questioning their estimation. You will note we have an excellent record prior to this report.

Awesome Hawaii Trip

  • 4 of 5

This house was much better than staying at a hotel. You have a full kitchen, entertainment, a pool outside your door, and no loud people on the other side of the wall. What more could you ask for? Had a couple little issues, but management sent maintenance over immediately for repair. Can't wait to stay here next time with the kids. Weather was a little warm, but never needed the A/C. Fans did great! View was awesome! Only hope this house is available when we come to visit Hawaii again!! Thanks.
