As an ex English teacher in this area of Greece, I hoped to come back one day. 5 years later, I came back with my husband and we bought a plot of land on the edge of Megail Mandinea. We then built the house to exacting standards over a period of 3 years. Every year we go back to experience the village, the views and to chill out. It is the real Greece - one that is difficult to find.
Eileen purchased this villa in 2006
We have now decided to rent the property as we want to share this unbelievable and as yet unspoilt area. More and more flights are beginning to fly into Kalamata airport and the magic of this real gem may be lost in years to come.
Aside from the spectacular views of the Messinian Gulf and the Taygetos mountains, everybody comments that the best part of the house is the unusually large covered veranda. You'll only want to leave the comfort of this area to dip into the pool. Spend hours relaxing, reading, drinking ouzo or fresh juice here and then think 'Where has the day gone?'.
Thanks for a great holiday in your beautiful house. It had everything we needed and met the high standards required for the 3 of us plus my mother and mother-in law! There was more than enough room for everyone to have their own space when needed. George was really helpful and gave us tips for shopping etc. We did not venture very far but made the most of the beach 10 mins away and of course the beautiful pool and shady veranda with sofa and stunning views. The master bedroom and bathroom are especially luxurious and felt like a boutique hotel - I have begun my research into my own coco-mat mattress - so comfortable!
We really didn't want to leave and are already talking about "next time".
We loved our stay at Serenity House, we were a family of six and we didn't compromise our privacy. Looking forward to come back and stay longer. My only wish will be to have comfortable chairs in the bedrooms. I will highly recommend this place.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left serenity villa was just out of this world.
We were made to feel
very welcome by George who told us what we needed to know and gave us some helpful hints.
Serenity is beautifully presented and has everything you need, the terrace is stunning with perfect places to relax and dine outside.
The location of the property is ideal surrounded by mountains and sea views with only a 30 min drive from the airport. Kalamata is only a 20 min drive which is full of great restaurants and activities.
We enjoyed many days around the pool with a couple of trips to the beach and to Stoupa which is definitely worth a trip.
If you are wanting to escape to paradise then this is definitely the place to go.
We will definitely be returning!!
WE stayed at this house for two weeks, Dad, Mum, 4 kids and mum in law and sister in law- 8 of us in total.
The house is fantastic in every way. The location is exactly how the real Greece of our imagination appears, on a hill in a village, with lovely walks down to the sea along country lanes.
The villa is spacious, well designed and easily fitted our group in the four double bedrooms. All possible accessories were provided. The secure grounds and delightful pool area and veranda were perfect for us. The views west to the sea are to die for.
Although very low key, there is a lot to do in the area-with many simple restaurants, beaches, trips over the mountains to Mystras/Sparta, and south to Stoupa- Aeropoli a highlight. Kalamata town is 10km away so you do need a car.We shopped in Lidl mostly- apart from the market in Kalamata for great fresh vegetables.
The drive from Athens was long, but the roads are excellent. On the way back we stopped at Nafplion to lunch and sightsee and that is a great way to see that tourist hotspot town.
All in all a perfect getaway.
From the road you see this traditional styled villa but when the gate slides back, a little piece of heaven on earth is revealed! We loved this place!! Our first family holiday has been stress free in Eileen's home, they've thought of everything here. Highlights: views (holy moly!) our own pool (with cool floating chair), killer bbq, funky chill out chairs, super comfy beds, rainfall shower, tasty olive oil from her trees. Pottering around the garden watering the plants made it feel like home (if only in my dreams), the friendly neighbours gave us fresh eggs and the 4 local tavernas are a stones thrown away. There was everything we needed for our one year old too - high chair, cot and even baby blankets. Can't recommend this stunning luxurious and beautiful home enough. You will only be disappointed when it's time to hand the keys back... Thank you Eileen!
Serenity house was great, we stayed for 2 weeks and were 2 families four children and four adults.
We spent our days just relaxing around the pool and house with its great covered verandas, cooking on the barbecue as the sun goes down.
George and Zoe were just down the road and kept the house immaculately, the gardens and plants make it feel like a home and not a holiday rental.

Megali Mandinea is a picturesque village just 20 minutes outside of the bustling town of Kalamata with it's sweeping harbour, great marina and lively night-life. The village is unique in it's 360 degree spectacular & panoramic views of mountains and sea. It is a traditional Greek village with a mini market and 3 tavernas which are open all year. 1.5 km below the house is beach of Sandova - a hit with young Athenians who play bat and ball to the tunes of a DJ. Further along the beach is an area perfect for families with shallow, clear waters which are perfect for snorkelling.
* Enjoy Kalamata olives by their hundreds in the home town of the delicacy
* Bask on the unspoilt beach of Sandova
* Relax and eat fresh fish while watching the sun set in the pretty fishing hamlet of Kitries
* Trek the Taygetos mountains and imagine the ancient Spartans doing the same
* Have an adrenaline kick with water sports in Kalamata
* Explore the splendid ruins of ancient Messini and Olympia
* Marvell at the wonderful stalactite and stalagmite formations at Diros Caves
* Coming in winter? No problem, there is a ski resort only 1 hour away near Tripolis
* Or don't move from the village, just kick back and look at the most spectacular scenery you could imagine
Megali Mandenea and the surrounding area is popular mainly with Greeks who know about it. It is not on the usual tourist map - which is why it is such a find. However with Easyjet and other major airlines now flying into Kalamata it is best to enjoy this area now before it becomes too popular.
Kalamata is a bustling Greek city which rests on a sweeping bay where you can sit and enjoy a coffee and watch the locals promenade each evening.
The area is unspoilt and stunning with plenty to do. Once you visit the Peloponnese - you'll be back.
