Exceeded expectations

When you book online you never know what you're getting but you go on previous reviews and keep your fingers crossed! We arrived at the house after 8 hour drive from Sussex. The house was warm and welcoming.- it is absolutely huge and we seemed to come upon another room as we checked it out. The bedrooms are large and comfortably furnished, sinks in each room too.. There is a self contained extension which is useful.

Large living room and dining room with beautiful views across the fields. The kitchen has everything you need and a utility room with washing machine and dryer, ironing board. There are two fridges which was good as there were 7 of us.

The house could easily accommodate 10 without feeling overcrowded. We were up for a family wedding so didn't have much time for touring the area but we went to a pretty bay - Brighouse not faraway and a lovely drive up and around Loch Ken.

Would highly recommend this property especially good for a large family gathering.

Lovely property, great location!!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time when we came to gatehouse of fleet and stayed here! We came down for the dark skies park to watch a meteor shower and weren't disappointed! The garden was perfect for star gazing and the house was spectacular - very well equipped, plenty of room for us all and comfortable, it felt like home! Will definitely be back!!!

Peaceful Haven

  • 4 of 5

Great location with fine views across the valley. Easy to imagine this place as a nice family home.

Clean and warm on arrival, immediately felt at home.

Property is well equipped with plenty of space for all to enjoy. Even the conservatory is heated. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom are ideal for giving a separate area if required. We used the large ground floor room with a large picture window as our entertainment centre and the other large room for relaxation. Good size kitchen and large dining room.

Only a quiet 5 min walk into the village where there are a few shops. Also the Masonic Arms which provides a good atmosphere and either bar meals or a nice heated conservatory restaurant. Visited twice and good on both occasions; recommended.

Ideal base for touring the various local attractions. You can enjoy a walk from Barchuill through the village into Cally Woods and beyond or soon be in Galloway Forest Park.

Owner very helpful and responded quickly to emails.

A good holiday and would return. Still plenty of places left to visit. Tip: take an adaptor for electric shaver or tooth brush.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this rental. Abundance of space for our family of 8. Well stocked kitchen with everything you need. Everything in working order. House was lovely and warm when we arrived and throughout our stay.

Fab location to explore the gorgeous coastline and area. Walking distance to shops/restaurants.

Countryside Delight

  • 5 of 5

Having just spent New Year at Barchuill with friends and family, I am happy to report a very enjoyable stay. This big comfortable home provided a layout that allows for together and apart time. If anything, the description of the property undersells it. The welcoming touch of chocolate and locally brewed beer celebrating the area's connection with Robert Burns was an instant smile maker for each in our party, especially on Hogmanay!

The house is a short walk into the very pretty village of Gatehouse of Fleet. The still twinkling Christmas lights just enhanced the welcome and made it all the more magical and special for a winter break...well, we knew as Scots not to count on great weather! Poor weather mattered little as this big, spacious property was lovely and warm.

There is a fairly steep, sharp turn along a short single track lane into the property driveway, but we were appropriately directed to expect this from the owner and so it was not a problem. The driveway easily accommodated our 3 cars with room for more if needed.

The kitchen is well equipped and the extendable dining table took our group with comfort. We found Barchuill to be very clean and well presented. The provision of bedding and towels was also welcome and saved us the bother of another thing to take up space and remember before travelling.

The conservatory is warm and looks out over the countryside. Short light days in the winter months meant we didn't use it much. It was a nice touch to see binoculars available for taking a closer look at bird/wildlife.

The provision of an accessible downstairs bedroom and shower makes it a good choice for those with limited mobility to be equally included.

We loved the feel of good, thick carpet underfoot. We also loved that the old fireplaces in some of the bedrooms have been kept as a feature. They provided added atmosphere when the wind was howling outside yet we were cosy inside!

The large bath and shower room was comfortable and easy to share for those in the upstairs bedrooms.

The owner was always helpful and keen to be of assistance if we had any questions.

I and the others in our group have no hesitation in recommending Barchuill. We loved it. This rural area of Scotland has much to offer and explore. Go.
