About Jeff Jokela
Life long Ely recreational resident. Family bought property on White Iron Lake in 1962 and have been privileged to enjoy summers and winter vacations all the years since. No other place in the world I'd rather be. That said, have had a Illinois drivers license since I started driving, and have lived in Evanston Illinois the past 32 years. When am I moving to Ely? It's a process, I'm working on it.
Jeff Jokela purchased this Cabin in 1986
Why Jeff Jokela chose Ely
Started living on an island. Problem is the winter freeze and spring thaw, hard to operate at those times. When fate allowed this property came my way, it was unimproved, no road, no well, no buildings, but a sweet location with lake and Bear Island River frontage and plenty of acreage. Now that the infrastructure is all there life is good.
What makes this Cabin unique
Heritage Haus was built in the early 1920's by Finnish log builders hewn from tamarack logs fell on site. It was one of several cabins at Burley's Fish Camp Resort a mile or so up the shore. We dismantled, moved, and rebuilt it at the present location. As a youngster I remember getting minnows and night crawlers from the old bait house, and then a cold 7UP at the main lodge from Grandma Burley herself. Heritage Haus has served as a guest cabin for our Heritage Villa next door. It is my favorite place to stay.

Beautiful, great get away for the wife and I.
The cabin is beautiful, warm and cozy! Making plans to return already.
This was a great getaway in the Northwoods
The cabin was absolutely great. We wanted for nothing. Having the fireplace added to the charm of the cabin. Jeff and Hans were attentive hosts. Would recommend this property for a romantic weekend.
Beautiful location and Jeff is really great! Awesome fishing and canoeing ! Will recommend to friends and family!
Thank you, Jeff! I truly enjoyed staying at the cabin and your hospitality. I'll be back soon.
Great cabin. I enjoyed the authentic cabin, which Jeff has well-supplied with everything needed for a comfortable stay.
Heritage Haus White Iron
My niece and I stayed at Jeff's place last week. He provided a great introduction to the region as well as books of local interest. Having the boat for windy days and canoe for calm ones was perfect. Good fishing, hint-the near mouth of the South Kawishiwi by the rapids for large smallmouth and rock bass, and lots of wildlife. The accommodations were perfect for our needs. Very peaceful. Perfect. Thanks Jeff!
Romantic and Beautiful!
Went up for our honeymoon. Adorable rustic and romantic cabin. Owner Jeff and his dog Hanz were a absolute delight. Jeff even got us a bottle of champagne, dark chocolate and wild flowers from the yard. So sweet. Launching dock for boat was not ideal but we managed by launching on public access. Beautiful sunsets and loons were saranating us daily. Didn't catch much fish on White Iron but a quick and easy drive and launch on Shagawa lake in Ely. Caught our limit of walleye and jumbo perch. Ely is a gem. Cute shops and excellent food. Everyone very friendly. Loved the old school feel of Ely Steakhouse. Kiwashi Falls are a 15 min drive and beautiful! Also, no need for bottled water, the water is amazing to drink!
