Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Hayle - The Ferry House

4 Bedroom beach located historic stone cottage, sleeps 10

The Ferry House is a perfect haven for those looking to escape the hectic pace of everyday life. Recently refurbished. A place where you can wake up in a superking size bed and look straight onto St. Ives Bay and Godrevy lighthouse. Watch the ebb and flow of the tide, whilst waking or having your morning tea or coffee. Step out of the door and walk on the dunes or beach comb in St. Ives Bay. There is a spacious private lawned garden with an indoor heated (Easter to October), swimming pool and a summerhouse where you can be outside but not feel the elements whilst watching the sunset over the bay. Alternatively, there is a TV, DVD player and free unlimited super fast infinity broadband/wifi connection.

Lelant, the birthplace of Rosamunde Pilcher, is conveniently located near to St. Ives, but remains a peaceful and relaxed village even in the height of summer. The Eden Project is within easy distance to visit for the day, as are many of Cornwall's tourist destinations. A great location, especially of interest to golfers, walkers, painters, ornithologists, kayakers, windsurfers and anglers.

The famous local author Rosamunde Pilcher has recently described the walk to the house as her favourite walk:

"My favourite walk is at Lelant, down the road past the church onto the golf course. You see the bay and the colours, and it's never the same - it's just perfect."

Fantastic location with stunning sea views

  • 5 of 5

Our only disappointment is we only stayed for one week instead of two. Great views particularly from master bedroom which is large with enormous very comfortable bed.

Great beach for bathing and surfing a short walk along river beach (outside Ferry House). Very impressed with the friendly RNLI Life Gaurds who operate a flag system and observe from waters edge.

House is very well equipped especialy the kitchen which could be a bit bigger but is fully functional. A tumble dryer would be a help as getting stuff dry in inclement weather is a bit of a problem.

Nice indoor pool and hot tub a great hit with the kids

Loads of games and entertainment available. Minor hiccups resolved promptly by Nicola (the manager/owner)

All 8 of us had a great time and will return

Paradise!

Four of us (adults)stayed at Ferry House with our labrador, Charlie. We parked at dynamite quay using the permit provided. We could see the car from the house which was comforting and had no problems whatsoever. The walk on the beach takes only a few minutes, you just need to be aware of the tide times and not mind walking over a few rocks and mostly sand and then cope with steps up to the house. We did not try the route over the golf course as parking was difficult and busy whilst we were there. The house is private and with lovely gardens. It has a quirky feel with cottage style features and window seats but also a beach feel with coordinating furniture and accessories. The house is spotlessly clean and has all mod cons. Everything has been considered in the kitchen. There was still an April Chill at night when we visited so we lit the woodburner every evening and we were lovely and warm watching the sun go down at the beach. Sand does get everywhere as it is a beach house right on the beach but is easily cleaned up off the slate/tiled floor. I especially loved the fresh clean white bedding and ample piles of towels for each bedroom. We also appreciated the lovely welcome pack. We spent four blissful days walking on the gorgeous white sandy beaches and swimming in our warm pool and hot tub till the late hours. Our dog Charlie absolutely loved it and it truly is doggy paradise as the beach is dog friendly all the time. To be honest we fell in love with Ferry House and would easily stay there forever! We should really keep this lovely place secret but its just too lovely not to share our memories. Did I mention how relaxing it was, you can stay all week and not speak to a soul if you so choose listening to the waves, or you can watch all the beach activity from your window like quad bikes, kite surfing, rowers, dog walkers, wildlife, or like us you can drop into St Ives just 3 miles down the road or Carbis Bay, do your shopping in close by M&S/Asda or do some sight seeing to the beautiful St Michaels Mount, or visit the Minack Theatre with spectacular views. The only thing I can honestly critique is we tried to use the sunbeds but they were a bit old and rusty and not built for the larger lady shall we say! Some may say that some of the downstairs furnishings were a bit retro but we loved this laid back beach style and the modern accessories have been matched beautifully. Upstairs is as good as any boutique hotel. Just gorgeous!

Owner's Response: Wonderful. We really appreciate your lovely comments. We often have guests stay at the houses at the beach who feel the same, even families with teenagers who tell us how they decide not to go anywhere else as it is so relaxing but interesting at the same time. Nature abounds, guests love watching the seals, birds and even reported slow worms and pine martens last year! The water activity is transfixing. My children have grew up across the footpath at The Beach Bungalow with the passing traffic being fisherman putting out their lobster and crab pots! The recent addition of the kitesurfing adds to the beauty too, apparently it's a top UK spot for it. (The quad bikes are on Hayle Town Beach, the opposite beach on the opposite side of the water and not on our beach so we are not affected by the noise). Thank you for your compliments on the style of the house. ( We aren't interior designers just normal people putting together what we think we would like whilst living at the beach on holiday). It's good to know we got it right. New sun beds are on the list! Unfortunately despite being new last summer the location and sea salt is terrible for anything metal. Wood is even worse. Plastic next! Sorry I had not thought that new ones would be needed until June. We would love you to return. You might find that the end of Sept and even October a good time. Cornwall is popular then as the weather is typically good in October. We have some guests who repeatedly return each October to our houses on the beach and people are still in the sea! The treat is that it's not as busy as peak holiday time or as expensive. Many thanks!

Absolutely fantastic place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at this wonderful beach house with our dog. We were completely taken aback by the fabulous views and the peace and quiet! The bedroom is just marvellous. We spent mornings in bed with tea watching the tide go out and dogs running up and down the beach. We couldn't believe we could see the sea whilst sitting up in bed! The lounge area is just stunning, with panoramic views to the sea. We couldn't fault this place. It was secluded, quiet, peaceful, beautifully clean and tidy, the cupboards were stocked with everything we needed to cook with and eat off. There was even a lovely bottle of mulled wine and tea and jam left for us, along with a bottle of milk. The owner was so friendly and accommodating, allowing us to arrive earlier and leave later on our day of departure. The garden was beautifully looked after. Perfect for our dog to run around in without the worry of him escaping. And to top it all off,the hot tub was absolutely perfect. Such a wonderful way to wind down in the evening. It was so clean and such a lovely touch!

We can't thank you enough for allowing us to stay and have such s wonderfully relaxing holiday. I have already recommended you, and may be coming back again next year!

Thank you thank you thank you!!

A very special place...

  • 5 of 5

The location of the Ferry House is nothing short of stunning! The sea comes up to garden wall at high tide and at low tide there is a vast expanse of beautiful white sand beach. From the Living Room we saw seals, cormorants, King Fisher, Falcons and much more. It is a short walk to the house but we parked on Dynamite Quay (arranged by the excellent owner, Nicola) and it added an extra element to the holiday...first time we've walked along a beach to get to a house!

The house itself is tucked away with a private, large enough garden that would be the perfect place to sit and watch people/wildlife/sunsets/sunrises/views/big sky's, etc. and enjoy a drink in Summer, though we did that over a balmy (17c) Christmas! We are a family group of 4 and the house was an ideal size for us, I would imagine that in the summer with the patio doors pulled back that allow direct access from the Lounge to the front garden, there would be plenty of space for a large group. The upstairs is perfect, looks like it's fairly newly refurbed, with really comfortable beds (the main bedroom has the biggest bed i've ever seen!), huge amount of space and glorious views. The downstairs is practical and a little more 'lived in' but is clean and well provisioned. One reviewer mentioned this and all I can say is that this is a Beach House, it's by the beach so you will get sand on the slate floor and it must be difficult to maintain, but the Cleaners and Owners do a superb job. The location (did I mention it is stunning?) more than makes up for a bit of sand and the furniture, etc. is in keeping with the beach house feel.

The Pool is really good, much better than expected and used throughout our stay, as was the Hot Tub...and it was well maintained during our week. We didn't get to use the newly installed Wood Burner as it was too warm, but that would be fantastic on a cold winters' eve. The house has super fast Wifi (boys were happy!) and overall is fantastic value for money...yes it's dearer in August but if you've a young (or old) family and you want a beautiful, huge beach then it's literally on your doorstep...throw in the pool and hot tub and happy days!

Last thing, I left my watch (an expensive Tag) at the house and didn't realise until I got home and the Cleaner and Owner went well out of their way to reunite me with it. Again, I mention this as it's just another example of Nicola's commitment to providing the very best experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this wonderful review. We really do appreciate hearing that our guests have a superb time at The Ferry House (not forgetting our other beach houses too!) The team work hard to ensure that our guests get the holiday that they deserve and need, we all know how rushed and hectic life can be. Holidays are special times for good memories and we know that being at The Ferry House can provide for a truly exceptional holiday experience. Many guests tell us this and many guests are back for their 4th or 5th stay! We have guests who say that they have lots of day trip planned but in the end find that there is enough to do just sitting and looking out from the Ferry House to the beach and the bay. There is always something good going on, (even in the depths of winter wildlife abounds), don't forget the passing traffic, (gig rowers and lobster/crab boats). Some families say that their children put down their electrical devices and happily revert to kids play on the beach, unwinding prior to stressful exams. We ourselves know and appreciate the location as we have lived there ourselves and are happy to share the rejuvenation that it so often provides. As with all things special there is always the slightly unorthodox walk in but our guests enjoy being able to walk along a beach to get to their beach retreat. Logistics also mean that a magazine show home is not easily achieved at that location. We are therefore practical in what we provide as we have a younger family and know that the last thing we want to do is worry that either the children will create damage or that they might hurt themselves on hard highly polished surfaces or glass tables. We therefore aim for the practical, comfortable and most of all relaxation rather than the superficial fashionable magazine look. Most of our guests appreciate and enjoy the Ferry House because of this. Once again thank you for a fab review. Do come back!

Fantastic location with stunning views. Everything very homely yet little things like the board games and videos made it cosy and welcoming. Excellent for getting to famous Cornish resorts with ease. Would recommend.

Quirky, relaxing, scenic and great value

  • 5 of 5

The house is located right on the beach so is ideally situated, if one is prepared to walk the short distance from the car park, through the golf course, to the house with luggage and shopping. Welcomed by the housekeeper who is both efficient and very helpful, as is the owner. The house comprises everything one needs, in terms of facilities and equipment. It is a reasonable sized property for 4-6 people. The main bedroom will be the most popular room as it has an enormous bed from which one can view the sea and estuary through three picture windows. The garden offers plenty of space for children and adults to play and relax while watching all the dog walkers pass by.

The hot tub was excellent at the end of the day for relaxation, after walking along the nearby South West Coast Path. The wood burner, once mastered, was also a great asset to the house, providing stunning reflections in addition to the Christmas tree, in the windows on three sides of the living area.

In essence the house became a welcome retreat to return to after a busy day's outing; and was well managed by both owner and housekeeper.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We are very pleased when our guests enjoy staying at The Ferry House. We also feel good when our guests appreciate our efforts in making their stay as enjoyable as possible. We hope you return! Our only comment is that the house works well for several couples. However it does sleep up to 10 when there are families with children sharing the triple bunks. Any questions on numbers and sleeping options do ask.

St Ives Bay has superb beaches with glittering clear sea and clear air. The Beach House is situated on one of St Ives Bay's beaches. Great for surfing, windsurfing, sea kayaking and fishing.

The area has great artistic traditions dating back to the 1800s when accomplished painters revelled in the clear accurate light and luminous colours. An artistic legacy exhibited in the Tate Gallery. The Beach House, the former studio of John Miller, who captured the beauty of the location in his Beach paintings.

Add to all this a range of excellent restaurants and cafés, traditional pubs and St. Ives becomes even more of a holiday delight.

The Eden Project and other world famous Cornish gardens such as Heligan and Glendurgan are all in driving distance.

The proeprty is situated next to the West Cornwall Golf Course and on the South West Coastal Walking Route and the Hayle Estaury Bird Reserve.

Lelant was the birth place and childhood home of Rosamunde Pilcher author of the Shell Seekers

The famous local author Rosamunde Pilcher has recently described the walk to the house as her favourite walk:

"My favourite walk is at Lelant, down the road past the church onto the golf course. You see the bay and the colours, and it's never the same - it's just perfect."
