Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Newquay & St Austell area - South Torfrey Organic Farm

Lovingly converted cottages in a secluded, peaceful off-road setting.

South Torfrey is a working organic farm, set in a secluded position above the Fowey estuary, three miles from the beautiful historic harbour town of Fowey, that's only a five minute drive away. We offer plenty of available parking and fabulous facilities on site for our guests.

The five cottages offer a peaceful haven in which to relax and unwind. Thoughtfully converted, each is equipped to a high standard to provide a 'home from home'. The kitchens are fully equipped with a washer, drier, dishwasher, microwave and all the necessary appliances and utensils to help make your stay with us a restful break.

Honeypin has been designed on a single level with an emphasis on accessibility, and is well suited to wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility. It has an electric riser/recliner chair in the sitting room, and an electric single bed in the second bedroom, plus the specified shower-room aids in both en suite wet rooms (including a wheelchair on request).

Our cottages each have a wood burning stove (fuel provided), stair gates and en-suite bath/shower rooms. Gillyflower and Honeypin have two en suite shower wet-rooms (neither has a bath, though baby baths can be supplied), whilst Linden, Rowan and Mulberry have both a shower and a bath room. Each property has a king-sized, pocket sprung bed made up with 100% cotton linen - because we don't underestimate the value of a good night's sleep.

Outside, each cottage has a private, walled, gated garden, with a coal barbecue, garden furniture and a chiminea to make the most of warm summer evenings. Jasmine, honeysuckle and clematis adorn the walls and climb the stone buildings, while the flower beds have been cleverly planted with buddleia, hydrangea and roses, attracting butterflies until late summer. Cornwall is a gardeners dream, and we are spoilt for choice with the beautiful gardens and garden centres found locally and ready to explore.

On the farm there's always plenty to do. The small animal enclosure, home to assorted chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and kune kune pigs, is a delight for all our guests to visit, not just the little ones. Outdoor fun and games includes badminton and table tennis, plus a gated playground with swings, a slide and a netted trampoline, sit-on toy tractors and a covered sandpit. Inside we have a pool table, table football and a comprehensive DVD and book library for all to use. Travel cots, high chairs, backpack carriers are all available on request. And thanks to BT we now have slighter faster WiFi access than before, in all the cottages.

Please visit our website www.southtorfreyfarm.com for more detailed information on each cottage and the surrounding area, or contact me, Debbie Andrews, by phone 01726 833126/07855348795 and I'll be happy to talk about specific requirements.

About Debbie Andrews

Originally from London, Simon and I worked at a Steiner community south of Edinburgh, farming alongside and caring for adults with special needs. We relocated to Cornwall in 1996, 2 weeks prior to the birth of our third son, Charlie. We now have 5 children, mostly taller than us. Simon, a biochemist, traded a career in a hospital chemistry lab for a life as an organic farmer. He hasn't regretted it. And I, with a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management, attempt to find practical application for my knowledge whenever I can. Now he's learning the clarinet and I'm singing jazz. We make a good team!

Why Debbie Andrews chose Newquay & St Austell area

Close to Golant, our friendly village local - the Fisherman's Arms - and the Cormorant Hotel, offering afternoon tea with a stunning view, are both a short walk away. We are 3 miles from the historic Cornish harbour town of Fowey, an established holiday destination, with a wide choice restaurants, tearooms and more than its fair share of Inns and watering holes. Fowey is a favourite port of call for many yachting holiday makers - and the Fowey Royal Regatta, taking place over the second week of August, pays tribute to this.

We enjoy stunning coastal scenery and there's always a footpath to follow and places to explore - either along the coast path or following the Saint's way from Fowey across country to Padstow. Polkerris beach is a five minute drive from the farm, with a water sport centre for kayak, paddle board, wind surf hire, Sam's beachside pizza and seafood restaurant and the Rashleigh Inn with a westward view of the horizon across the sea. A great spot for an evening sundowner. Walking the coastal path from Polkerris towards Fowey one may discover many secluded coves, safe for swimming and great for rock-pooling. Visit Polridmouth, Coombe Haven and onwards toward Readymoney beach at the west end of Fowey.

Centrally located, South Torfrey Farm is a superb base from which to discover Cornwall. These are some of the hidden gems local to us that we enjoy. This is why we live here. We welcome you to come and share them.

What makes this cottage unique

South Torfrey Organic Farm is located 200m down a private drive, off a minor village road, with ample parking. Accessible and yet secluded and peaceful, set in beautiful rolling countryside. It provides the perfect holiday setting for young kids to let off steam, away from roads - and a relaxing break for mum and dad. And still only 5 minutes from Fowey and the beach, 15 minutes from Eden and less than an hour from Truro; it doesn't take so long to find out that being a day-tripper is easy.

The swimming pool and sauna also offer a unique facility as the room can be booked by each cottage for an hour at a time, and so is completely private. Our experience is that this works particularly well for visitors with autistic family members. Equally, guests with physical disabilities can gain access to the pool with a hydraulic 'Dolphin' hoist, available on request.

With our own large family, and with a couple of dogs, we understand what it takes to have a restful break. If there is anything that we can do to make it better you only have to ask. We are almost always on site to have our local knowledge tested and to offer help should our guests need it. We look forward to meeting you.

Car: recommended

If you are familiar with Fowey then you will appreciate the benefits of locating out of town - ample free parking, avoiding the stress on arrival of unloading the car in the narrow one way system that runs through the town with traffic building up behind you. The five minute drive into Fowey is easily outweighed by the space and freedom that South Torfrey Farm offers. Plus the great private facilities that we have for our guests on site.

Apart from that .. Cornwall is the BEST holiday destination ever, without a doubt. I'm not even crossing my fingers. Ever since I was a young child, growing up in central London, I realised this. The beaches, sand castles, CORNISH ICE CREAM, cream teas and lazy family holidays in the sun are what I remember from being a kid. Things have changed. The sun still shines (of COURSE!), the sand's just as sandy and there's more flavours of ice cream than ever before. And there are paninis and lattes and cherry frangipane slices. Which makes me think that as a holiday destination it's got even better. Plus it no longer takes 12 long hours to get here. Water sports have exploded in popularity and are fantastically accessible. Coasteering has been discovered. Wet suits are regulation sea wear. The Eden Project has been built. And a zip wire. There are ball pools, demon drops, a monkey sanctuary, pirate museum, tall ships and paint ball opportunities. Golf courses overlooking stunning beaches. Horse riding across Bodmin moor. Wine tasting tours at Camel Valley Vineyard. Gardens within gardens. We've a history of wonderful artistic endeavour down west, now exhibited in the beautiful Tate St Ives. Works of exquisite art are available to all in numerous private galleries, sculpture gardens, out of the way potteries, and high street shops, county wide. Then there's the food. With so many celebrity chefs locating in our small corner, the bar has been raised for sure. The proliferation of micro breweries equates to greater choice and more enjoyment. And the Festivals: Fowey Words and Music, Falmouth Oyster, Looe, Port Eliot Literary, Boardmasters, Charles Causley poetry .. regattas, carnivals, gig racing .. we take our music and culture and any chance to dress up in ridiculous costumes very seriously indeed.

So. What are you waiting for? Find somewhere perfect to stay, like South Torfrey Farm, and come on down.
