Complimenti!

The beginnings of Barbarano Cape could sink back in 1190, when populations veretine were forced to leave their countries chased the assault of the Moors. Predilessero the hill as a place of rebirth calling Vorano, not to forget the people barbarians that forced them to flee, erasing a community known in antiquity around the Mediterranean. Four Lineages who succeeded to lead the country, followed by the 1190-1297 Capece family dell'Antoglietta 1297-1350, then Aquinas for a generation, with the return still dell'Antoglietta for fifty years and with the resurgence of Capece 1442-1817.
Barbarano Cape is a small village of Capo di Leuca which boasts one of the most famous monuments of the area: LEUCA SMALL. It was Hannibal Capece to will and to build this work, a true example of hospitality and welcome, the tangible signs of the hospitable nature of its inhabitants. The cult of the Madonna di Leuca had ancient origins by recall every year many pilgrims to the shrine at the far tip of Italy, DE FINIBUS Terae, looking for redemption from their sins and to make sure the place in Paradise. But the journey up to Leuca was long and arduous, a real pilgrimage marked by the striking since ancient ROAD OF PILGRIMS: small tracks made their way inland Salentine interspersed with lots of testimonies of worship and stopping points where pilgrims They were momentary refreshment before continuing the journey.
Leuca Small is one of these rest stops: the complex included the church for prayer, the inn for refreshment, the underground with niches for rest, wells for water supply, stables and mangers for horses and donkeys. Today, unfortunately, the road has divided the complex leaving the Church on the one hand and on the other the Mangers and what remains of the inn. The charm of Leuca Small however is unique and charming, enhanced by the recent renovations and new lighting.
Several tombstones, some disappeared, but is still in the memory of the residents, testify to the ancient wisdom of Barbaranesi. Famous that of 10 P (Words Just Think They bring Pena Therefore Think Before Then Speaking) and at the entrance of the underground "Don Hannibal Capece hor me fruitful if a time sviscerar did my breasts enter here, then, and you retain at least the 'shadow, the cool, the table, the wine, the wave. A day on Jan. 1, 1688 ".
The church, originally dedicated to St. Lazarus, is a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture, with neo-classical portico and painted decorations inside six- eighteenth century. Inside, on the ceiling they are painted the four Evangelists while along the walls, there are the figures of other saints. Particularly valuable the two confessionals cut into the rock and striking looks from the viewpoint terrace overlooking the church. In 1711 Msgr. De Rossi in his report on a visit to Barbarano, called the complex of Santa Maria di Leuca Belvedere which became Leuca Small to distinguish it from the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca.
