Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday bungalow in Icklesham - Wynchelse

4 Bedrooms, wrap around decking, open plan living, suitable for 2 families

Gorgeous wood cabin situated down a quiet residential dirt track road only 2 minute drive from the stunning pebbly/sandy shores of Winchelsea Beach. The house is designed in an open plan arrangement. Originally built in the 1930s it has been extensively renovated in a relaxed shabby chic style, filled antique and vintage furniture while the double height pitched ceiling in the the main living room gives the house a great sense of space and light. White washed reclaimed wood is used on walls and floors. The house sits in its own pretty garden with off street parking. Accommodation comprises one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, one double bunk bed room (sleeping 4) and another 4th bedroom/snug with a double sofa bed, bathroom/shower room and a second WC. Despite its reclaimed emphasis comfort has not been compromised and the house boasts a stainless steel Smeg cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, underfloor heating, wood burning stove and cotton sheets on all the beds.

About Atlanta and Dave Coote

We are a local family. We have 4 children and we just love the area with its copious beaches. The ancient town of Rye is one of our favourite spots with its cobbled streets, antique shops and many restaurants.

Atlanta and Dave Coote purchased this bungalow in 2012

Why Atlanta and Dave Coote chose Rother

Winchelsea Beach is great place to go with the kids for an old fashioned bucket and spades holiday. We love the beach shack feel for this 1920's wooden house although we have not compromised on creature comforts or style. We actually run a photographic locations agency for our day jobs and this house has been photographed many times for magazine and catalogues like Boden and The White Company.

What makes this bungalow unique

This house has an old fashioned English charm harping back to childhood holidays by the sea. A local family of ducks are regular visitors and if you are lucky they will waddle up the garden and say hello! In fact we have even created them their own little entrance so that they can come and go as they please. We have extensively re-decorated the interior with vintage furnishings and with the emphasis on reclaimed materials. It is in a quiet location near the sea, and although on a residential road it feels secluded without being remote. It has beautiful views across a meadow at the back. THe whole property is fully fenced in and a picket fence separates the main garden from the parking area so you can feel secure letting little ones roam freely. Please note though that there is a river running along the back of the property and although fully fenced off we do advise that you make sure children climb on or over it.

Such a beautiful house, perfect for a get away

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as wonderful as the photos showed. We had really stormy weather but the house felt really cosy especially with the wood burner going. We were a group of 8 friends staying together and had a lovely time exploring Winchelsea and Rye. The kitchen was well equipped and plenty of room for us in the lounge and kitchen to hang out. Probably not ideal for multiple couples due to the bedroom set up. Thanks for having us, will definitely be back!

Wonderful, quirky property not far from the sea.

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic place. We had a great time. The booking went very smoothly and the owners were very helpful. While the property is great for children with plenty of space, toys and books, the blinds are not safety blinds and while we appreciate that the ladder adds to the style of the place, we felt it should be secured to the wall to reduce the risk of accidents. Other than this, it was a great break in a quirky property and we would definitely go back. P.S. The fishmonger nearby sells the best fresh dressed crab!

Beautiful & unique holiday home

  • 4 of 5

The house felt airy & light & was a great space for all the children to play. The decking was great around the house, it would have been lovely to have some lounger type chairs. Overall I loved the house but the older generations may find a few more things that are an inconvenience & don't appreciate the look of some of the antique or older pieces. We loved visiting Rye & the miniature railway was really fun for all the family

Historic stay, in all aspects

  • 5 of 5

We (3, us and our 2 year old son) were looking for something special for 2 nights to end our UK tour and something special we got. The fully wooden house just oozed with history and style. The location is superb, located on a parallel (quiet!) road from the mainroad and bordering on a meadow with grazing sheep. How peaceful! The house itself is not only very stylish, but also very comfortable with modern kitchen equipment and dito entertainment systems.

People traveling with kids will love it as well; as there are ample of toys (hidden away!) and highchair and cots present.

In all a magical stay and the only regret is that we only stayed for 3 days (2 nights) and not longer. Highly recommended!

Winchelsea Beach is a lovely coastal village and the local pub called The Ship serves great food and is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The beautiful and ancient town of Rye with its copious restaurants and antique shops is only a 5 minute drive away. Other local attractions include Hastings, Camber Sands Beach, Bodiam Castle and of course the stunning coast line of East Sussex and Kent, all this only one and a half hours form London

Wynchelse house is a truly peaceful spot but not at all remote. Perfect for couples, families and even two families who want to share! Please not this house is near the beach not ON the beach.
