Casa das Rodas has two rental units - Old Rustic Charm & Arabic Spa, offering the totally of the building (the ground floor and the top 2 floors - 1st floor and Loft - sleeps 6/7/8/9); and Private Jacuzzi & Hydrotherapy (the 1st floor and Loft only, as an apartment, sleeps 4/5/6). The rental unit Private Jacuzzi & Hydrotherapy is listed separately as property 1098283. So, if the accommodation for 6+ is too big for you, search #1098283 and you'll have accommodation for up to 5/6 + patio, BBQ and Jacuzzi & Hydrotherapy. All photos refer to Old Rustic Charm & Arabic Spa. About Maria

I am a retired University Professor, whose career spanned in Portugal, the UK and the US. I currently live in the UK but having lived more than half of my life in a variety of countries from Europe to Africa and North America I am familiar with a number of nationalities and cultures and I am determined to make sure that guests have a quality time at Casa das Rodas and ultimately get their money's worth. I always put myself in the position of the paying guests and try and be as helpful to them as I can be, solving mishaps and unforeseeable problems as they arise.

Why Maria chose Manta Rota

My father bought this property in the late 1950s. I was in my twenties then and my children grew up going to Manta Rota for long summers every year. We have holidayed there for many decades and currently it is my grand children that come from the US with their parents to meet with the rest of the family, all scattered about across the world that we are. Throughout the years Casa das Rodas has undergone a number of structural improvements and refurbishments but remains as close to our hearts as it was over 50 years ago - a small fisherman's cottage with a bread baking oven.

What makes this house unique


The bean shaped jacuzzi (hot/cold spa) that we've constructed in the patio is the only such facility for many miles around and is an immensely convenient one as it offers a variety of hydrotherapy massage jets that make for A VERY RELAXING TIME coming back from the beach just before you get ready for dinner. It marries high performance with movie star good looks and cutting edge technology for a spa experience like no other. This spa is a classic hydrotherapy facility that delivers the combination of buoyancy and massage for your wellness and relaxation as jets work together to pamper you with personalized massage styles while pillow headrests provide comfort and support. This spa is uniquely equipped to deliver the health benefits of hydrotherapy in your own blissful and tranquil sanctuary: you can look forward to hours of hydro--massage therapy, parties with friends and family, or simply well deserved relaxation.


The BBQ, built in refractive bricks to ensure an even heat distribution and a successful BBQ experience, preventing food to get grilled on one side and not done on the other, is a definite plus to this property. There is nothing quite like a barbecue on a hot summer's day, especially when combined with a spa party. Whether it is the fresh air or sunshine, food somehow tastes better when eaten alfresco.


Another unique benefit of this property is its location, meters only from all facilities (supermarket, ATMs, market, restaurants, bars, pharmacy, beach) and yet extremely quiet in a receded 'cul de sac' away from the traffic and noise of the main road, the sea only 200 metres away..

  • The ground floor bedroom has a double bed, and two bedside tables with lamps, a large wardrobe with mirror, a writing table and chair, satellite TV. This room has heating but it does not have air conditioning. However, because the room only has one exterior wall and even that is protected from winds and rain, a large fan keeps the temperature quite cool even in summer. On the 1st floor the living area is open plan offering a sleeping area with a double bed and a dining/sitting area with LCD TV. From the living room a staircase leads to the 3rd bedroom in the converted loft, consisting of two single beds, wash basin, TV, and access to the good size terrace from which you have beautiful views over the village, and the sea in the horizon. This spacious typical Portuguese village house is tastefully decorated, displaying several interesting features, namely original 1920's Art Deco double doors in Brazilian mohogany and a number of decorative pieces from countries afar

Sitio paradisiaco

Adorámos passar férias com amigos e familia. O ambiente é acolhedor, rustico, mas com todas as comodidades necessárias. Super limpo, central, tranquilo e a 5 minutos de uma Praia enorme e paradisíaca.

O que mais gostamos foi da vista espectacular do Terraço e do jacuzzi ao fim do dia. Recomendo!!! 😀

Great house, great location, wonderful rental

The house was immaculate on our arrival, everything as described and very well maintained.

The house certainly has a rustic charm, but in no way did that mean that its facilities were outdated, in fact the air conditioning was great, really quiet, and the jacuzzi in the patio was perfect, both in the afternoon and at the end of the day.

The loft has a great patio as well, which was great at the end of the day to relax, and with a great view towards the beach, overlooking Manta Rota.

The house is close to the beach, and you get there in about 3-4 minutes, which was great.

We were all very comfortable (myself, my partner and 2 kids), and we'll certainly be coming again if available. Highly recommended.

A localização é excelente, mas há algumas deficiências no alojamento. Não há um armário para arrumar as roupas. Tive de manter a roupa nas malas de viagem. O.quadro elétrico não tem a potência necessária necessária para ligar ao mesmo tempo. o ar condicionado e uma simples torradeira.

No me parecia que ofrecia la calidad en el servicio que anuncia. Li peor no tiene ni salon ni sillonSolo dispone de sillas que se caen de viejas, y lacocina de abajo muy viena. Te sientas y se rompen solas y luegos te las cobran como nuevas. La limpieza deja que deseear. Lo mejor el patio y el jacuzzi, la situacion buenisima con respecto a la playa. Sitio excelente

Owner's Response: Guests ran away before check-out agreed time, leaving the premises open (!), and escaping accountability for damages: 2 broken director chairs, broken entrance gate, BBQ dirty, hand towel completely damaged (with what looks like paint), dining table plastic cover disappeared, TV remote also disappeared. The guests were not happy that I retained some of the deposit to cover damages and breakages. Hence the infuriated review...

Close to Manta Rota beach you will find Praia Verde,a beautiful beach with its centuries old pine forest also well worth a visit. The Algarve offers the ideal conditions for round the year golfing and there are four Golf courses only a few minutes drive: Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Castro Marim Golf and the most prestigious of all, the Monte Rei Golf Club. The old village of Cacela Velha with its 16th century fortress and stunning sea vistas and the Roman town of Castro Marim are also worth the trip.

If you like gambling, there is a casino in Monte Gordo as well as many restaurants offering Portuguese and international cuisine. The beautiful town of Tavira, 16 km west of Manta Rota. is a jewel in itself, a place where it is very easy to lose track of time discovering the old town and its rich history. You can spend hours strolling the charming cobblestone streets before you succumb to the restaurants, shops, bars and terraced patisseries and enjoy a refreshment and the variety of the unique marzipan cakes and nibbles that are a staple across the Algarve. Ilha de Tavira, - Tavira Island - with it's famous beach and many small restaurants is only a boat ride away.

The beach of Barril in Santa Luzia is also very nice. This beach is accessible by foot or, if you don't like to walk, there is a small train that takes you there.

Cacela Velha was an important centre during the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, and archaeological research indicates previous human occupation (probably Roman) in this area.

In the 16th century this fortification was reconstructed and conservation and restoration works lasted until the end of the 20th century.

Visit Cacella Velha at sunset - you will never forget the country side and sea vistas from the fortress walls.

Go for dinner at a restaurant called FABRICA the road sign of which you will see when you visit Cacela Velha. This restaurant has a large covered esplanade overlooking the Ria Formosa sea inlet and excellent seafood.

The Cacela Velha Fortress is classified as Monument of Public Interest .
