Miserable Time At the House
Let me first say that the house itself was nice and clean. It was located in a decent neighborhood, less than a block away from Frenchman Street with its collection of live music spots. The trolley ended about a block away which was very convenient. The neighborhood is sprinkled with restaurants that you could walk to that served good food.
With that being said, staying in the house proved to be a miserable stay because the AC did not work. It was six of us that traveled to New Orleans for Essence Festival. We had been to New Orleans and rented homes before. This was the first time that we encountered a problem with our rental.
When we arrived, the temperature inside the house was 81 degrees. I contacted Bre who informed me that the home had been empty for the past 7 days and the AC was not on during that time. After about an hour everyone was feeling the heat. We all started getting headaches and a few of us were nauseous. One of the toilets would not flush so I again reached out to Bre. She sent me a text and stated that it gets hot in New Orleans and that we were having a lot of issues for a house that had just recently been serviced. About an hour or so later, Jen, the maintenance lady showed up. Jen checked the toilet and said that the rubber stopper was not closing all the way and that we needed to lift up the top to the tank and wiggle it the next time if we had a problem with it. She then proceeded to work on the AC. She did her checks. We asked her if the filter could be dirty to which she responded no as the AC had just been serviced within the past few months. We told her of how sick we were feeling because of how hot the house was to which she told us to make sure that we drank water to stay hydrated. Jen told us that she was going to go to the store to buy a filter and that she would return. When she return, she brought a guy named Bill with her. We all thought that both Bill and Jen were going to work together to get the AC working. Jen climbed the ladder to replace the filter, which was dirty, but Bill sat down and started talking to us. Bill was there as Jen's body guard. The house did start to cool down but, it was still too hot so we left to go cool off somewhere else. The house did not cool until late at night, the time we were spending hanging in NOLA. For all of our stay, we had to leave the house during the day to cool off. It gets hot in NOLA. I requested a full refund but have not heard from Bre.
A/C does work, and yes it gets very hot in New Orleans. Records highs in fact. This week it was 109 and the house was at 81 the day they arrived. Filter was changed and after evening fell and unit could keep up it went back down to 72 in the house. Guests were looking for a reason to get a refund. Started recording housekeeping as soon as they arrived which made Jen very uncomfortable.
A/C was full tested before and after their stay and is fully functioning still is.
Guests stayed entire stay and didnt ask for a refund until they left. If a home is uninhabitable you leave and ask for a refund not stay the entire trip then ask...why? Because they were fishing for a refund.
Great location, cool house
This is a cool older home in a great location. It is on a busy street with a lot of traffic, but the neighborhood is good and we never felt unsafe. There have been some updates, but it's still an older home. Upon arriving at the home and dropping off our bags, we went searching for the parking space indicated in the home's instructions. Only to be told by the owner the lot had been sold and we were on our own. Luckily we were able to find a spot right across the street. It was disappointing to have to deal with when we were assured quite recently before the trip that we would have a dedicated spot. Especially after driving 7 hours and then driving around for another 30 minutes looking for the lot which didn't exist.
The house has been nicely updated, there were a few things being an older home. The handle in the larger bath is loose and my husband had to fix it several times because the toilet wouldn't flush after several uses. One of the kitchen doors was also loose when we arrived. Unfortunately the hubs did not bring his tools to fix that.
The neighbor is great and made many good recommendations for us on places to eat. The patio was crawling with sand fleas, which made sitting out there pretty much impossible, but the owner did have some spray we could use when we realized our pant legs were moving and ran inside. We used it to keep the ones we inadvertantly brought in from getting in the house. The front porch had no bugs. There was some trash and a used condom on the patio as well, but those could have come from anywhere over the fence, it's a busy neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend the property for families with kids for these obvious reasons.
The house is cool and none of the things mentioned dampened our trip, but it didn't make the overall experience a 3 star one. It is on a busy street, but people visiting NOLA don't come for a quiet time. The property is extremely close to everything anyone visiting would want to see. And there is a nice little market for groceries right down the street.
Great space in awesome location!
Place was exactly as described. Extremely clean and comfortable space. Kitchen was well stalked with that essentials. Loved the back patio, great space to sit and relax. The location was perfect, a quick five minute walk to all the happenings on Frenchmen! We will definitely try to stay here when we come back!
Nice place good location
The place was very clean & convenient. The key pad / instructions / communication were all very easy. The space is large & fits 5- 6 people well.
Easy walk to many clubs & nice cafe's. Really enjoyed thank you
Great location & beautiful house!
The location of the house was perfect! Easy walk to Frenchman St, Bourbon St., etc. The house is right on the streetcar line as well. We used Lyft on a few occasions and it was super easy and fast. The extra details in the house were appreciated! Everything was very clean and well maintained. Amazing towels, pillows, and bed linens made for a comfortable stay! The kitchen was fully supplied as well with any kitchen tool or cooking utensil you may need. We loved the onsite laundry. Bre was very responsive to questions and was easy to work with. It was a little noisy in the front of the house (to be expected in the heart of NOLA) but we brought a sound machine/ Echo Dot for the front bedroom and we slept like a baby!
Clean and convenient
Nice property inside. Very clean and convenient to restaurants and shopping. I would suggest adding a full length mirror somewhere for us ladies who would like to see our full outfit. Small details were considered and appreciated such as detergent for washer and dishwasher. My major complaint was that I was not aware (because of emails going to spam, not owner's fault) that parking was not available on the grounds or near the house. It was a 6 block walk to park my car. I was not comfortable having my car so far away but no other option. My concerns were confirmed when I returned to my car the day I left and window was busted out and my car was ransacked. Not sure how long it had been that way but at least a couple of days because it was wet inside from the rain a couple of days before. I was attending a conference and my days were full so I didn't get to my car to check on it for a few days. I highly recommend that you either DO NOT drive your vehicle or make arrangements somehow for secured parking. It is worth the $30-$40/ day charge to not come back to your car vandalized.
