Lovely, quiet, perfectly placed

  • 5 of 5

I rented this cottage for a month to finish a book I was working on. It has lovely views, is walking distance to the beach and there are great hill walks through the Burren right out your door. Mary, the owner, lives a short walk away, and was a great and thoughtful hostess. There's a typical pub a short walk away, but shop the farmers' market in Ballyvaughn or the supermarket in Ennistimon and cook up a storm in the beautiful new kitchen. There is another cottage next door and a few others on the road, but this a quiet spot, with more cows and horses around than people. The place is brand new, and tastefully appointed. Of course, the weather in this part of Ireland involves a lot of rain, so be prepared for that.

Perfect spot for an idyllic get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. The house has an excellent location: stunning oceanview, convenient distance to many sights, and outside a small village. There is plenty of space for a couple or small family and was tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. Mary, our host, was very kind and checked on us couple times. David provided very helpful advice prior to our arrival. We needed a quiet get away and this was more than we hoped for. We arrived on a week when there were two storms at the beginning and end, but even staying inside and watching the storm in a cozy house was much fun.

The kitchen has all the main appliances you would need for cooking. We drove from Dublin and preferred to settle in before we went shopping, but if you want to do it on your way stop at Kinvara where there is a Londis. If you are coming from south, then you can shop at SuperValu in Ennistymon - both are about 30 minutes drive. There is a small shop in the village, but the selection is limited.

We loved our stay and will hopefully be back soon!

Beautiful home in a wonderful landscape!

  • 5 of 5

We much appreciated Mary's warm and gracious hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home! Up very early, well before all the tour buses, we hiked the cliffs of Mother by ourselves, explored the wild beauty of the Burren to see the antiquities, exquisite lunch in the Perfumery cafe and great dinner at Monks. The kindred spirits of W.B. Yeats and John O'Donohue are much alive in this beautiful place. Thank you!

Wonderful, peaceful, beautiful, luxurious yet cozy cottage on the sea. Two thumbs up!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in Fanore cottage #1 in mid- September. We have travelled a lot and this was the best experience we've had for so many reasons! First, the cottage was beautiful. Just like the photos. Everything clean and fresh and very well appointed. Views of the Atlantic ocean were stunning - amazing to wake up to each morning. As all the other reviewers have mentioned, Mary, the owner was a few minutes away and was so wonderful to us from start to finish. A very gracious and thoughtful host! She had the kitchen stocked with fun essentials and we felt very welcome even though we only saw her a couple of times, we knew she was available for anything we needed. We loved cooking in the gorgeous kitchen (stocking up on groceries in Ennistimon), cozy-ing up with a book or to a movie in the evenings after returning from O'Donaghues Pub - great food and atmosphere there and Patrick went out of his way to make us feel welcome, even giving us a freshly baked and delicious loaf of bread when we said we were staying the week. Best part is the big blue pub (with the best fish and chips ever) is only a few minutes walk from the cottage. We loved the stroll, rain or shine and there were plenty of both during our week. Speaking of strolls, there are so many beautiful hikes one can do just stepping out the cottage door. All around are sheep, cows, horses, and the peaceful meadows leading down to the stunning beach and the sea. The pace of life for us slowed right down and we found ourselves really paying attention to all the beauty around us.

The cottage is also a perfect home base for visits to Galway (45min) the Cliffs of Moher (20 mins) Doolin (20 mins) the ferry to the Aran islands, cave adventures, etc. So close to everything yet your own patch of peace and quite and comfort to return to. If you're planning a trip to the West Coast and want a lovely place to stay, we highly recommend the cottage in Fanore. I can't imagine you would be disappointed with your choice. We will be returning in the future for sure. In fact, the second we got to Dublin we were already wishing we could turn around and head back!

Fantastic

Great experience. Great property with fantastic views of the Atlantic. Mary is a perfect host, made sure everything was taken care of. The pictures do not do the property justice, nor the views from it
