Lovely, quiet, perfectly placed

  • 5 of 5

I rented this cottage for a month to finish a book I was working on. It has lovely views, is walking distance to the beach and there are great hill walks through the Burren right out your door. Mary, the owner, lives a short walk away, and was a great and thoughtful hostess. There's a typical pub a short walk away, but shop the farmers' market in Ballyvaughn or the supermarket in Ennistimon and cook up a storm in the beautiful new kitchen. There is another cottage next door and a few others on the road, but this a quiet spot, with more cows and horses around than people. The place is brand new, and tastefully appointed. Of course, the weather in this part of Ireland involves a lot of rain, so be prepared for that.

So very beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say about this house that hasn’t already been said??!! In getting info about the house, David was very responsive. His mother Mary was wonderful—so kind and attentive (what a wonderful mother you have, David!). We had a few discussions during our week’s stay and I enjoyed her!

The house is big, the kitchen wonderful, the area quiet but close to many attractions. It was my husband’s 60th birthday and I arranged friends to come and a house concert by local musicians! The space was perfect and we had a party with 16 people, plus the 3 musicians. No problem!! Then there were walks up the hill and walks to the beach and many walks to the pub down the little side road. That was key—I didn’t want to be driving while drinking and here, I had the best of both worlds: good beer, good food, good music and a gentle amble home.

One key thing to keep in mind: The space is perhaps ideal for families. We shared the space with another dear couple and we made it work fine but the full bath was accessible via the master bedroom.

I would return in a heartbeat. I envy the people who have watched their children grow up here.

There are no words to describe how amazing it was!!!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do the house or scenery any justice. The house was so beautiful. Waking up to that scenery was breath taking, it never got old seeing it. Mary was extremely accommodating and it was so lovely interacting and speaking with her and her husband. There is a great little pub down the road that has delicious food. We tried everything on the menu, even the desert and had no complaints. You are about 20-30 minutes from Doolin Caves, The Cliffs of Moher. Doolin and Ballyvaughan have great food as well and great little shops. You won't regret staying at the cottage. I hope to return and stay there again.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was the best! This home was the icing on the cake, and Mary and the whole town made it even better. The location is ideal, the views amazing! I cannot describe in words how grateful we were to have picked this place. The home is large and easily accommodated the 4 of us. The kitchen is huge! We used this as home base for our daily excursions, and typically ate b-fast and a few dinners at home. If we felt like walking down to O'Donoghues Pub for drinks or dinner that was the best too. Mary showed us the walk up to the top of the hill which we did one morning, it was breathtaking to view the whole village from above. The beach was an easy walk away, as was the Pub and store/post. I want to back again and again! Thank you Mary for sharing your home, and your hospitality. You, Fanore and Cottage 1 will forever be part of our hearts!

Quiet visit with a great view

  • 5 of 5

The best part of the cottage is the view - regardless of the weather. The second best is the location. While Fanore is only a 1-pub town, it is easy to get to other towns for some variety. But just staying at the well-appointed cottage is enough of a vacation. Note that the loft is not really suitable for two adults. The cottage would be perfect for a family with young-ish kids. The owner's mother lives locally and was super helpful when we moved in. She was accessible but not intrusive for the entire time we were there.

Perfect spot for an idyllic get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. The house has an excellent location: stunning oceanview, convenient distance to many sights, and outside a small village. There is plenty of space for a couple or small family and was tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. Mary, our host, was very kind and checked on us couple times. David provided very helpful advice prior to our arrival. We needed a quiet get away and this was more than we hoped for. We arrived on a week when there were two storms at the beginning and end, but even staying inside and watching the storm in a cozy house was much fun.

The kitchen has all the main appliances you would need for cooking. We drove from Dublin and preferred to settle in before we went shopping, but if you want to do it on your way stop at Kinvara where there is a Londis. If you are coming from south, then you can shop at SuperValu in Ennistymon - both are about 30 minutes drive. There is a small shop in the village, but the selection is limited.

We loved our stay and will hopefully be back soon!
