About the property

4 Bedroom / 3 Bathroom with Hot Tub and View

Hike, play and explore. Then soak, snuggle and relax. It’s so easy to take a break from the everyday in the peaceful quiet of the Blue Ridge Mountains in this tastefully decorated Log Cabin.

Unwind with a wonderful view while rocking on the covered wrap-around deck. Take it all in from the hot tub on the deck, then warm up in front of the cozy wood-burning fireplace in the family room. Or read a book in the upper loft’s overstuffed chair.

At an elevation close to 4000 feet / 1200 meters, the temperature rarely rises above 80F / 25C in the summer, but the cabin does have air conditioning (A/C installed March 2017) in case of a heat wave. Come for Fall colors. Or visit in the winter for snow activities. This cabin is comfortable year-round.

The cabin features a 60” Plasma big screen TV with Blue Ray/DVD player in the basement/rec room. Plus each bedroom has a 40" Flat Panel LED Smart TV, and another one in the family room. We also have three other DVD players setup with some of the TVs.

Free secure internet access is available for your laptops and mobile devices.

The kitchen is stocked with everything you need - either for a large group meal or a romantic dinner for two. Great view right from the dining table while you eat!

Whether you seek a weekend getaway or an extended stay, both tranquility and excitement can be found here.

Nearby Area Attractions: Take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, a ribbon of road through the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina High Country. The region’s largest town Boone (just six miles away) is home to Appalachian State University and its three-time division I-AA national champion football team. So many opportunities for enjoying the outdoors: hiking, zip line, canoeing, whitewater rafting, skiing, and picnicking in the community! Experience Appalachian heritage and culture with musical offerings, events, and attractions like Horn in the West, Music Fest in Sugar Grove, Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Merle Fest, Concerts on the Lawn, square dances at the Todd Mercantile, and back-porch bluegrass jams at the Original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.

The cabin has a driveway and small parking area, but we encourage guests to limit number of vehicles to 3 total.

Why Elizabeth C Morrison chose Boone

The world is full of beauty, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are rich in opportunities to experience and explore that beauty. Having lived and vacationed in many locations world-wide, we know that location is key when choosing a place to spend your vacation. We spent nearly a year looking for the perfect cabin in the perfect location, and were thrilled when we finally found this home.

The Crystal Mountain neighborhood is well hidden yet still easy to get to. It's conveniently located 6-7 miles from several attractive towns: Blowing Rock, Boone/ASU, Valle Crucis: home of the Original Mast General Store.

You can also easily reach many other nearby activities, such as:

Boone Golf Course, open to public

Grandfather Mountain and other places to hike

Tweetsie Railroad

Appalachian Ski Mtn

Town of Banner Elk

Moses H. Cone Park

What makes this house unique

Peace and quiet. Beautiful view. Nature and wildlife - birds, deer, turkeys. Plus great features inside in the cabin: pool table, hot tub, 60” Plasma TV to watch your favorite sports team or Blue Ray for movies. Each bedroom has its own 40" Flat Panel LED Smart TV and one more in the family room. We have three other DVD players setup with some of the TVs. Get outside and enjoy, then kick back in the comfort of this cabin. You won't be roughing it here.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house was beautiful, clean and had everything we could have possibly needed. We were close to so many fantastic places and had an incredible vacation here. My granddaughter's loved sitting on the porch every morning rocking and watching the "smoke" come and go on the mountains. My boys loved playing pool every night and the dining room table was big enough for all of us to sit for meals together. We would definitely love to come here again. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.

PS Katie the caretaker was awesome making sure we were in okay and did not have any problems.

Great cabin and location

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was a nice fit for our family with three separate areas so we could spread out. And yet a good main floor cooking, eating and spending time together.

Thank you Elizabeth and Katie for helping so promptly when the refrigerator had a bit of a temperature problem. Katie thanks also for bringing the second small fridge (and bottle of wine)to help us get through the holiday week-end until the repair person could get there.

Exactly what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

We had 5 adults and 5 children and we fit perfectly in this house. The view was great and the property was in a great neighborhood. The hot tub was awesome and the furnishings were perfect and fit well in the house. The game room was an awesome place for the kids to hang out. They never wanted to leave. Would definitely recommend.

Great House - Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We once again had a wonderful ladies getaway at this property. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us. We love the porches, hot tub, downstairs tv area (couch is well worn though) and pool table. It was clean and they helped us immediately when we had a question. Beds are comfortable and the large kitchen table makes mealtime easy as well.

The location is perfect. Go down one direction and you are heading to Blowing Rock, another to Boone and the third takes you toward Grandfather Mountain and Banner Elk. Grocery stores are convenient as well. The driveway is steep, but we have never had any trouble. You can also use the flat parking area as well.

We have rented this house for the last 4 years and are already looking forward to our trip next year!

The cabin had everything we needed, was comfy, and the space worked for all of us.

  • 5 of 5

The mountains never disappoint. Every time I go, I dread leaving. It’s good to know there are great rental options out there to make our stay more enjoyable. We had a small (self-inflicted) snag, and needed the assistance of the caretaker, Katie. She could not have been more accommodating. All in all, a wonderful mountain experience!

poor

  • 2 of 5

While the view was lovely, the cabin itself was rundown. Two of the poolsticks worked and the rest lacked tips. The bridge was broken and the caretaker replaced the bridge with a piece too small to go over sticks. The oven was filthy with drippings and kitchen drawers had gunk and hair in them. There was no hot water in downstairs shower due to broken handle. The toilet rocked uncomfortably. There were no directions as to how to switch t.v.'s from cable to dvd. The caretaker was willing to have repairmen and cleaners come in to fix everything, but I'm not interested in sharing my vacation with people who are fixing things that should be already in working clean order when I arrive. The caretaker could not figure out the t.v. issues so Elizabeth had spectrum call me so I could have them try to troubleshoot over the phone. We did get the basement t.v. going but we never did get the upstairs living room working. The caretaker did replace the broken dvd player. Based on the above as well as the 5 days of power tools (the house next door was being rebuilt by a team of workers) chainsaws, chopsaws, drills, constant hammering and all the voices of 8 hardworking men starting at 7 am for the workday I thought NOT A NICE vacation. When I complained to Elizabeth she said she had no way of knowing the neighbors would be renovating. She thanked me for bringing all my complaints to her attention and said she will bring it up at the next HOA meeting. When I wrote her back that I was wanting a 25% discount for condition of the cabin as well as the noise, Elizabeth stopped responding. We have been renting through VRBO since 2006 and this is the FIRST negative experience we've had. I do not recommend this cabin.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary, Thank you for providing feedback to help us to improve our vacation rental. We take guests’ concerns and suggestions seriously. During your stay, we addressed each issue as best we could. I do wish that you had let us know about the early morning construction noise earlier in your stay. The Property Owner’s Association does not allow work to begin before 8am on weekdays, and the caretaker addressed that concern as soon as she was made aware. Our family stayed at the house in July for two weeks, and took a careful look at all the issues in your review. Since your stay, we discovered that the downstairs faucet is a little tricky, but works; we tightened the toilet gasket, cleaned the kitchen drawers and oven (though it was not as dirty as we had expected), checked the poolsticks. We did discover that a loose TV/HDMI connections likely caused those devices not to function properly; now fixed. We installed a new DVD player in the living room, new DVD storage in the basement, and new dining room table cover. We would disagree that the cabin is rundown as we have made several improvements in our first year of owning the house including a fireplace overhaul, new bedding, new towels, new crockpot, cleaning the deck, and new sofa bed. We continually strive for a high level of customer satisfaction, and we are sorry that your expectations were not met. We tried to get in touch with you after your stay, but could never connect. A few weeks ago, we celebrated our first anniversary as owners of this property, and we agree with you about the view - very relaxing.

really enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

My two sisters and I, all in our late 60s and early 70s, my mother and her sister, who are both in their 90’s stayed at this “cabin” in Boone in early May. I would certainly describe this as much more than a cabin, with four bedrooms, three baths, a pool table and a hot tub. We had a wonderful stay, despite the fact that at some point, it rained almost every day we were there. Despite the weather issues, we were able to get out and enjoy some of the wonderful sights and activities almost every day, including the Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, a drive up to Beech Mountain, and trips to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center.

We were at first a little surprised at the winding, curvy, mountain roads which lead to the cabin, but managed to navigate them for the most part with no issues. However, due to the very damp weather, none of us was comfortable with attempting to park our car in the very steep driveway. We parked instead at the top of the driveway. This meant that the two “older” folks had to descend the driveway to the house using their walkers, which was quite tricky. One previous review had mentioned the steepness of the driveway, but that was in winter and we had not expected any issues in the late spring.

The place was quite clean when we arrived, plenty of towels, cooking equipment, etc. We ate most of our meals there. The only things we could have used were a larger skillet and a dish towel in the kitchen. We liked the very large dining table which gave us plenty of room for meals and working jig saw puzzles.

In sum, we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this rental to others with the caveat that access could be a little difficult for folks with mobility issues.
