Beautiful holiday home for 5 persons in a medieval village in the south of Franc

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,184 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

Beautifully restored hour in a medieval village!

The house dates from the 13th century and is located in the village square of Castelsagrat, an authentic medieval bastide in southern France. This magnificent holiday home has recently been completely renovated, tastefully and comfortably furnished and suitable for up to 5 persons.

From under your own 'arcades' (medieval arches) experience the typical French village life. Villagers get a baguette from baker Alain, a piece of French cheese at the 'épicerie' and the local farmers exchange the latest news on the village square. Across the square the glasses and cutlery tinkle on the delightful cool terrace of the village restaurant.

In the courtyard surrounded by medieval walls, the 'cour', you will enjoy the southern French sun and shade in complete privacy. You can relax in the lounge area, barbecue, drink a delicious glass of local wine under the olive tree or take a refreshing dip in the pool. In the evening you will enjoy the beautiful lights and the stars. If you prefer watching the typical French village life you can also sit down under your own arcades at the front of the house.

La Maison de Monsieur Calbet is located in a beautiful area which is also known as the Tuscany of France, which in spring and summer is packed with lively antique markets and bustling night markets.

Perfect holiday base in a bastide village

  • 5 of 5

The property was as described, clean, well maintained and with full facilities. La Maison has been renovated sympathetically, but with modern touches in the bathrooms and kitchen. One of the reasons we chose La Maison was because it had a pool, unfortunately the weather did not allow us to use it as much as we may have liked. We enjoyed aperos and eating outdoors, cooking on the barbeque. Philip & Natascha welcomed us on arrival and explained everything and were around during our stay if and when needed - which we did on one occasion and were helped out of a sticky problem - keys locked in car!

Good base for visiting Lozerte, Moissac, Cahors, Valence d'Agen and Auvillar. Auberge at Bardigues can be well recommended.

Boulangerie in one corner of the square, Tabac/small epicerie another corner and small restaurant on another side of the square.

Beautiful area of Tarn et Garonne and have no hesitation in recommending this spot as a base for visiting this area.

Tres belle et calme maison.

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Comfortabel, clean house, entousiastic owners!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week in this fully renovated house. We had a great time, despite the weather that wasn't all too best the first couple of days. The owners received us with a drink and a very nice pie. Natascha and Philip are very enthousiastic and they can tell you all about the todo's in the environment.

The house is very clean, superb bath rooms, new kitchen, good sized bedding. Wifi available. Downside is there's no television.

Unless you want to stay in the village with only a couple of hundred inhabitants and not a lot to do, we really advise to rent or come by car. Cities like Toulouse can be visited with about a one hour drive through the beautiful landscape.

If you want to do some oudoor activities we can advise Happy Forest. It is also possible to go kayaking or visit a Chateau and find some nice wines.

We highly reccommend this house if you are looking for a new, clean house and want to find some peace and quite. If you fancy a more active holiday, ensure you have a car at your disposal as you will have to drive for about an hour to find some nice todo's. Natascha has already prepared a todo list upon arrival and she did all she could to find some more outdoor activities which we highly appreciated!

If you visit in summer, don't skip the brocantes in the area and the numerous marché gourmands. Here you can visit a local town where all inhabitants eat together at long tables. Local foods are prepared and you can just buy what you want at very low prices! We went to another marché gourmand almost every evening as this was really enjoyable.

Natascha and Philip, thank you for facilitating a very relaxing holiday!

La Maison de Monsieur Calbet is located in the medieval bastide Castelsagrat in the Quercy Blanc, in a region also known as the Tuscany of France. The landscape is a patchwork of sunflower and wheat fields, spread out over rolling hills. The Garonne River winds through beautiful medieval villages where time seems to have stood still.

Below you will find a general overview of the region. In the house you will find an extensive guide with lots of information about the area. You will also receive a list with events that take place during your stay. Do you want more information or are you interested in specific events? We live nextdoor to the house and are happy to tell you more or help you making reservations.

General overview of the region:

The region has a lot to offer to those who like architecture, art and culture, antique and flea markets or sports but also for those who simply want to enjoy life.

Enjoying life

At the nearby wine chateau 'Les Deux Soeurs' the sisters Catherine and Isabelle are happy to show you how they make their wine and you can of course taste their delicious wines. For those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks the famous Jus de Chasselas (grape juice) in the area around Moissac will be a tasty alternative. The 'chasselatiers' will happily introduce you to this special drink. For lovers of digestives there is the Armagnac (a kind of 'cognac').

There are several charming and very good restaurants nearby including the elected Best Restaurant of the region 'Auberge de Bardigues' and the 2-star Michelin restaurant 'Michel Trama'. On the local (organic) weekly markets you will find a variety of local produce to inspire your own culinary exploits: delicious cheeses, pâtés, jams, vegetables and other local delicacies. In summer you can enjoy a 'marché gourmand' almost every day, a bustling night market where you can eat at long tables.

Architecture, art and culture

Within walking distance of Castelsagrat is Montjoi. A beautifully restored old style village where time seems to have stood still. The region also has several villages and towns known as 'un des plus beaux villages de France' like Lauzerte and Auvillar. These towns are characterized by their distinctive architecture. Moissac with its beautiful cloister is a stop on the route to Santiago de Compostella. In the Rue des Arts you can visit the studios of various artists and craftsmen. Also worth a visit is Toulouse, the fourth largest city in France. The Museum of Modern Art 'Les Abattoirs' and the wonderful Musée des Beaux Arts 'Les Augustins' (permanent collection and temporary exhibitions) are just some of the sites worth visiting.

In spring and summer numerous “brocantes” (antique and flea markets) are held every weekend. Here you can still find reasonable priced antiques and fun second-hand stuff. There are also some brocante shops nearby. In Castelsagrat a large brocante on the square is held twice year: on Easter Sunday and on the second Sunday of August.

Sports and beach

For those who like sports the region has much to offer. Activities include mountain biking, cycling (on hilly terrain or a flat route along the Canal du Midi), hiking (car 'free' routes available), horseback riding, water skiing, canoeing and golf. The nearest water park is a 10 minutes drive. There are also several outdoor recreational parks and lakes in the area including the beautiful recreation site in Saint Nicolas de la Grave where you can practice numerous activities like swimming, windsurfing, sailing and fishing and there is also a playground and a football and rugby pitch. Beach lovers can make a day trip to the Mediterranean or the Atlantic Ocean.
