This is a very private cabin on a beautiful large 3.5 acre lot. It is in a small community of larger plot mini farms along a secluded section of Stover Creek. This rustic and well maintained chink log cabin is in it's own valley and neighbors are out of view, even in winter months. The large screened porch, with a luxurious hot tub, faces the woods. The relaxing sounds of nature and rushing water will wash away the worries of city life.
Two full bedrooms, large loft and sofa beds provide sleeping for up to 6 adults comfortably. Two large bathrooms and a washer and dryer provide facilities for all guests’ cleaning needs. The kitchen is well appointed, including a large refrigerator, a dishwasher and a full size gas range and stove.
There is Direct TV, phone service and DSL WiFi, a sound system, and central heat and air. The atmosphere from a real wood burning stone fireplace, with a gas starter, makes it feel like camping without 'roughing it.' Firewood is provided.
This wonderful retreat is in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area of the Chattahoochee National Forest, but is still only an hour and a half drive from Atlanta.
There are lots fun things to do in this area. Hiking abounds: the Benton MacKaye and the Appalachian Trails heads are about 12 miles away on Springer Mountain, and there are numerous hiking trails close by that lead to several waterfalls, a swinging bridge, and spectacular mountain views. Fishing opportunities in the numerous trout streams and in area mountain lakes are plentiful and cater to all skill levels. The kayaking and tubing opportunities on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers are very close by and the shuttle services are inexpensive and easy to navigate. More challenging guided white water rafting is a short drive away, as well. Mountain bike trails and horseback riding are also easy to locate and enjoy.
Beautiful downtown Ellijay is about 15 miles away. Ellijay has numerous antique shops and art galleries and small eateries. Ellijay is host to an apple festival in October, while the numerous orchards are open all year long and have tours, some offer hayrides and petting areas for the kids. The city of Blue Ridge is about 25 miles from this cabin. Blue Ridge offers old-fashioned train rides along the Toccoa River and plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy as well. The entire area is rich with history and southern culture and charm.
The mountains of northwest Georgia are not overly touristy or trashy. The locals have character are pleasant and eager to please visitors. Simply driving through this naturally beautiful area is a scenic adventure. Come see for yourself, and I’m sure you’ll have a difficult time keeping this place a secret!

I am an fly fisherman and hiker and throw pottery which I sell at art festival in the Atlanta area. Please feel free to ask me for some good fishing areas for your particular skill level or the location for some of my favorite hikes.
Eric L Shaw purchased this cabin in 2005
This is a very private and special place that relaxes me every time I make that turn off the main road on my way there.
I have the creek all to myself and don't have to share, the kitchen is easy to cook in, and the hot tub releases the aches and pains from a good days hiking or fishing in the many area streams filled with trout.
The cabin was superb, neat, clean and very well set up in a detailed oriented manner. Thanks had a good time
We stayed at the cabin in the worst of conditions and, because of the cabin, still had an amazing time. We checked in on a Wednesday and out on a Friday. The two days before and after our stay had picture perfect weather but the two days of our stay were the worst storms of the year so far. We even loss power. Despite that we had an amazing time and our children kept asking if we could live there.
The cabin is clean and well stocked. There are plenty of games for some fun, family time. The beds were extremely comfortable and the hot tub was the definition of relaxing. A well equipped kitchen ensured I didn't mess up dinner because, "oops,,.I forgot the oil, cooking spray, salt, spices, etc." We were so impressed by how quickly the power came back on. We thought for sure it would be the next day but the trucks were out there in about 30 minutes in the rain. When the rain calmed down we ventured out and walked the creek which was beautiful.
Eric couldn't have been more accommodating and we were impressed with the rate; the fact that he did not charge a cleaning fee; and that there was only a nominal pet fee.
We will definitely be back!
My son and I took a weekend to get away and do some hiking. The cabin and all its amenities were fantastic, everything we needed for meal prep was there. A big part of the relaxation started on the drive to the cabin as we drove along the winding roads through farm after farm of lush, green, rolling pastures.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the sound of the running creek about 100 feet beyond the drive. The cabin itself was very clean and well appointed, and the hot tub was a welcomed site after a long day of hiking.
Many thanks to the Shaw clan for the privilege of using your wonderful cabin!
We had a great stay! Cabin was clean and comfortable with plenty of towels and linens. The owner was great and gave us a call the first night to see if we had any questions or issues (there were none!) Our damage deposit was refunded the same day as checkout - overall, a great experience.
Property is exactly as advertised. Very private and very beautiful inside and out. Cabin was very clean and very well appointed. Lots of things inside the cabin left by other travelers and/or the owners for the convenience and enjoyment of future travelers. This cabin really felt like a home rather than strictly a vacation rental due to all of the personal touches. Also, the owners checked in via phone to make sure everything was up to par. Will definitely consider staying here again!
This experience was far homier than a hotel and as we initially wanted to rent a camper, found this little backwoods gem to be a greater comfort with king sized bed, hot tub off the master, well stocked kitchen, television, wifi, fireplace And they allowed our four-legged family member to come. The owner called on our first night checking on us and even gave some recommendations on a local less popular hiking location that we thoroughly enjoyed (Long Creek Falls.) Thank you, Eric, for sharing "Just A Step Away."
Ellijay is host to an apple festival in October, but some of the numerous orchards are open all year long and have tours; some offer hayrides for the kids. Old-fashioned train rides along the river or a visit to an ancient American Indian site can make for a relaxing time in the mountains
