Ettrick view is a beautiful stone built house that will very comfortably accommodate 14 people with room to spare. Newly converted to a high standard, this traditional 19thC farm steading is the ideal place for family and friends to meet up and relax in the tranquil rural setting of the River Ettrick and rolling Border Hills.

The house is light, spacious, and is tastefully and comfortably furnished with polished wooden floors downstairs and luxurious fitted carpets everywhere else. They will each easily accommodate 3 generations of one family, making them a perfect venue for family celebrations.

6 bedrooms (each house has a selection of king size, double, twin, and family rooms, with some super king size beds in Ettrick View), 2 en-suite and 2 family bathrooms, a large lounge with big flat-screen TV and pool table (also with table tennis), a separate small sitting room with games and books in The Byres, a big kitchen, a dining area that really does seat 14, and a secure garden as well as access to the shared courtyard and 4 acres of private land with its own stream – plenty of room for you to relax and feel at home without falling over each other.

For disabled access, we have wide hallways and double doorways as well as a downstairs twin bedroom and toilet/shower room with hand rails in each house, and ramps for access.

Behind The Byres and Ettrick View the land slopes down towards the River Ettrick – a tributary of the Tweed which can be fished for trout and salmon, with a smaller private stream (perfect for paddling) flowing into this along the side of the property. Across the river the land rises to frame the fantastic views across the valley. There is also a large shared courtyard area with seating and trampoline next to the house, and four acres of land where you can roam freely, picnic and paddle in the stream. And don’t forget all of the Scottish Borders on your doorstep to explore. There are historic houses close by such as Walter Scott's Abbotsford and Bowhill with it's adventure playground, as well as pretty towns, ruined Abbeys and plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, golf, horse riding - or perhaps a day trip into Edinburgh.

Lockable storage is available for bikes, fishing gear etc. on request and there is a freezer for your catch.

A large parking area is available to the side of the house.

Oil central heating with radiators in all rooms. WiFi and telephone. Fitted wool carpets in all bedrooms.

A cot, high-chair & stair gates are available at no extra cost.

Board games, cards, toys and a selection of DVDs are also provided.

Up to 3 well behaved dogs are welcome in the Byres. Dog baskets and blankets are provided. Ettrick View is kept as a dog free house. Secure outside area with plenty of walks on the doorstep and further afield. Plenty of maps and leaflets are in the house.

Welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits on arrival.

Wild and remote, but accessible, not far from the delights of Edinburgh, and with plenty of interest in the area and games in the house you will always find something to do here.

Surrounded by rolling hills, winding rivers, and abundant wildlife, The Byres awaits you with home comforts, space and more than a touch of luxury.

Lovely house in beautiful setting

We had a lovely stay at this property which was like a home from home, it had all the bits and pieces you need and was spacious for the 12 of us staying. The property itself was as the description said and Helen and Nic were very accommodating and welcoming. The house is certainly wheelchair friendly and the parking was very good. Overall it was a great stay. Thank you!

Wonderful property in peaceful location

This is a beautifully renovated property which is decorated and maintained to a very high standard. The kitchen is both well planned and well equipped, and the sitting room is spacious and welcoming. Bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculate on our arrival. Helen was there to welcome us and was very helpful in suggesting local caterers for a family party. I would not hesitate in recommending the property to the most discerning traveller.

Ettrick View is a large holiday home at Newburgh Farm Steading in the Ettrick Valley, a very beautiful, rural part of the Scottish Borders.

We are 13 miles from Selkirk along the quiet and picturesque B7009 and only 70 minutes from Edinburgh. The area has plenty of Historic Houses, Castles and ruined Abbeys, as well as adventure playgrounds, pretty Borders Towns to visit and space to just chill out. Bowhill House and Abbotsford House (the home of Sir Walter Scott) are very impressive as are their grounds, and Peebles and Melrose are well worth a visit. Edinburgh and Rosslyn Chapel are also accessible for a day out.

Ettrick View has it's own private secure garden area, shared courtyard space, as well as access to 4 acres of land sloping down towards the River Ettrick with paths through the wild flower meadow, picnic benches and fabulous views.

We also have a few beautiful and very cosy yurts now which can be booked if you require extra accommodation. These are also available separately if you just fancy a spot of luxury 'glamping' - or hire the whole site out for a wedding?

Spend time messing about in the stream down by the yurts, or go for a walk up the hills and then come back for some alfresco dining. There are plenty of outdoor tables and chairs as well as a gas barbecue and even a trampoline to keep the kids happy.

Fishing, cycling, walking, and bird watching can all be based from Newburgh, with boating, kayaking, horse riding, llama walking and several beautiful golf courses within about 30 min, as well as the excellent mountain biking centres of Glentress and Innerleithen. The nearby Buccleuch Estate offers some of the best fishing and shooting in Scotland. The area is also especially good for star gazing with clear dark skies.
