More than we could have asked for!
My family recently stayed in The Ruin and we enjoyed every moment! This was our first stop in our adventure in Scotland and a week was definitely not enough. The place was gorgeous, beautifully appointed, and welcoming, especially after a long day of touring and hiking. The farm grounds were so relaxing, and we enjoyed taking a walk through the sheep farm at night. My kids played with Tracy's kids, laughing, hanging out, and coming up with all sorts of new games. Their laughter was proof that this is a place where we felt like home!
Muirhall Farm is conveniently located in a quaint town that has a few restaurants (Robertson's is great!) and a bakery. It is also about 20 min from Livingston, which has everything you need, including a grocery store and outlet mall. It is about 45 min to downtown Glasgow, 35 min to Edinburgh, just over an hour to Stirling Castle, and about an hour and a half to St Andrews. Google Maps is your friend here, with all the small roads that take you through the gorgeous countryside.
I cannot leave a review without recognizing Tracy and her welcoming smile and helpfulness. She was there when we needed her and left us a great fruit basket, biscuits, wine, and milk when we arrived. She is friendly and really dedicates herself to making sure the farm, and all of the residents, are well cared for. It is rare to find someone like her!
Overall, we really can't say enough about our experience. We can't wait to go back!
Lovely cottage and location. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful
My friends and I were staying over from a Friday to the following Monday and the owner (Tracy) gave us a warm welcome and gave us all the info we needed about the cottage/grounds, surrounding areas and the best way to get to places. If you like animals this a good place to go as there are horses, a donkey and many dogs! The cottage was well looked after and very cosy, with no problems at all. We would definitely like to return in the future with it being so friendly and cosy. Thanks again Tracy!
memorable stay in The Shire
We stayed for 2 weeks at Muirhall Cottages in The Shire. It is a nice, sweet, cosy and comfortable cottage. Tracy explained everything in such a friendly way (things to do and visit, how to get there). The farm was perfect for our holidays and we didn't want to go home. We want to come back again because everybody was so lovely and friendly and we loved the farm and cottage. Our daughters loved the horses and the donkey, they did horseback riding several times. They became very good friends with the dogs and especially with Tracy's daughters. Thank you for everything!!! We enjoyed our holidays immensely. Hope to come back again next year. Especially a big "Thank you" to Tracy and her daughters.
