About the property

3 Bedrooms + sleeping loft. Sleeps 8

It's everything that is wonderful about the Vineyard! A private up-island feel that's still close to town and restaurants. Three bedrooms and a sleeping loft sited beautifully on 3 acres with access to hundreds of acres of private farm land.

Large post-and-beam barn converted into an amazing entertaining space, spacious deck, outdoor living areas. A true vineyard gem! As part of Pilot Hill Farm, the house provides access to a small family farm (you can get farm-fresh eggs and produce every day!), walking trails, and a private beach. Maid and chef services available upon request.

Renovations in 2015 include new bathrooms, painting, flooring, and windows. We also added new AC system!

Enchanting Summer Home full of character

  • 5 of 5

This is a great vacation rental for a family. We loved the big open barn area for playing games and hanging out. It even has a baby grand piano! The kids thought the sleeping loft was the coolest.

The house had everything we needed. Beach chairs, barbeque, a/c, plenty of beach towels and the large deck was our favorite. The kitchen is on the small side but was well stocked. It was great to have the private beach down the road and we so enjoyed getting eggs and vegetables from the farm. Bring water shoes as the beach has rocky spots. The sunset from the beach is the best. Vacation was perfect. We will be back.

Beautiful But...

  • 3 of 5

So, I will say this- the house is very convenient to town, and my kids loved the expansive yard. I also particularly enjoyed the deck, which was mosquito free and allowed me to watch the kids play. However, this house was VERY dirty. When we arrived, all of the beds had long pieces of hair on the duvets/sheets. We also found spiders, etc. When we went to change the sheets from the linen closet, several moths were found. Big sigh. Also, there is a level of grime here that should be addressed by a deep clean (the air filters on the floor are black). The strange thing is the house is very tidy. But, very dirty. In fact, we've been coming to MV for years and this was by far the dirtiest house. And there are a LOT of bugs - I'm no shrinking wallflower (you are in the woods after all), but I had a guest that was too scared to stay in the loft bedroom due to the number of flying insects, spiders, moths, etc. All in all, we enjoyed the layout. But, I would expect, at this price point, to find a cleaner home. There are also a few water issues. Namely, the spray nozzle in the kitchen causes the water to the kitchen faucet to turn off. I called the owner, and he was quite helpful - but the issue persisted.

The owners where very helpful and kind! This was our first time renting through HomeAway and I would highly recommend this place!

Charming comfortable house in the beautiful woods

  • 5 of 5

Private and quiet, this lovely clean and cheerful house is a perfect relaxing vacation getaway. An easy walk to the beach and quick drive to shopping and Vineyard Haven town center made the location ideal. Spacious communal indoor and outdoor space was large enough to have a great get together with family. The large deck with barbecue and lounge furniture was wonderful as was the big outdoor shower. We also loved hanging out at the lovely little private Association beach for a fantastic view of the sunset over the Elizabeth Islands. Our favorite rental on the Vineyard so far. We will be back.

Cozy spot!

  • 4 of 5

This property sits peacefully upon a lovely expanse of grassland, and is cozily tucked into a gentle wooded area. The home is warm and inviting, a perfect spot to gather with your people as you share steaming mugs of warm drinks, or glasses of wine in the evening. Walking in the woods -- to the beach, and beside the neighboring farms -- was our favorite thing to do each day....really, just beautiful and so peaceful. The farm is off the beaten path, but the town is close, so going out to dinner or shopping was easy.

It was a nice spot for our little reunion of family, only marred by the lack of hot running water throughout our stay. Thankfully, my husband is handy, and he crawled into the full outdoor closet, where we found the water heater, stood carefully on top of lots of stuff and diagnosed the water heater issue. After spending about 30 minutes in the closet, in a not very cozy position, he drained the hose, then reset it. He had to continue to do that each time we decided we wanted hot running water. The reset sometimes lasted a day, and sometimes just a few hours. The error signal from the heater was loud, so it was hard to ignore. The handyman that the owner told us to call was not quick to help, and just kept instructing us how to reset it, and my husband had already figured that out. It needs to be fixed or replaced, the reset doesn't hold. The handyman sent someone out to help the second night we were there, and he did not know what to do, my husband had to explain it. He was very nice and helpful, but he agreed that it was bigger than him and my husband. The owner was responsive, but reliant on his handyman, who wasn't very helpful. It was unfortunate that we paid the price we did for each night, when we had to be the ones in charge of whether or not the hot water was running.

We loved the property and we would recommend it, but make sure that you won't have to stress over being the ones to figure out how to get hot water each day.

Owner's Response: We have a new continuous hot water heater system at the house that is wonderful because no one runs out of hot water which is super important when everyone heads back from the beach at the end of the day and all want to take showers before dinner. Once in a blue moon after an electrical storm or power outage on the Island the heater dashboard will need a quick reset by pressing a button. It takes a couple of seconds and water will be ready within 10 minutes. There is a beeping sound to alert that the reset needs to be done. It is something a guest can do simply by walking into the deck closet and pressing a button- or we are happy to call someone over to the house to assist. The system is working fine and we have received no further feedback that has stated otherwise or we would of course replace the system or have it repaired. I am sorry to hear that it disturb your vacation in any way, when we spoke by phone you indicated that all was fine and that the reset ended up working.

The Vineyard offers fantastic beaches, great restaurants, shopping, hiking, sailing, fishing, and family entertainment. Our house is ideally located in a private wooded location, but still has easy access to the island's three main towns. Note that the map shown locates the house in the wrong area--we are just outside of Vineyard Haven off of Lambert's Cove Road walking distance to the beach.
