About the property

The Glacier Lodge offers magnificent views of Snaefellsjokull to the north and a panorama across Faxafloi bay to the south. Built in 2010 and one of a small group of similar properties, this is a modern self-catering cottage of 100 sqm which can comfortably accommodate six adults.

Just a two hour drive from Reykjavik, this home away from home, is the perfect base from which to explore one of Iceland's most celebrated regions - the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

South facing and with a light open plan design, the lodge sleeps up to eight people in three second floor bedrooms (one with a double bed and two with twins) and a fold out double sofa-bed located in the lounge. There is a fully equipped modern kitchen, plus a dining area.

During the winter time, the road leading to the Glacier Lodge may be impassable and you may need to park on the Hellnar road (Road 5730) and walk over to the lodge.

Away from light pollution and with vast open skies, Glacier Lodge is in an excellent position for watching displays of the aurora borealis should they occur during your stay.

With the region's natural beauty on your doorstep, including the striking sea stacks of Arnarstapi, there are plenty of things to see and do from a variety of hiking trails, sailing excursions and whale and bird watching opportunities, to activities on and around nearby Snaefellsjokull glacier - including snowmobile.

Beautiful cottage inside and out

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in 12 different place in Iceland and this was the nicest in terms of decor, amenities, etc. It was a treat to stay there! And an easy walk to a great cafe/restaurant that overlooks one of the best walks in Iceland.

Beautiful cabin and area!

  • 4 of 5

We REALLY enjoyed our stay here! Yes, everything mentioned about the stairs bears thinking about, but didn't hinder us at all! The cabin is more spacious than you'd think and is well equipped/comfortable! We would just suggest more pillows and having the drive plowed before guests arrive (we had to lug our luggage in on a dark, snowy night!). Other than that, I would not hesitate to stay here again! Thank you, Clive and Crew!

Beautiful house at the foot of the volcano!

  • 5 of 5

Cozy house! The only downfall was no Wi-Fi. Also we came in New Year's day and nothing in the area was open, not even grocery stores. The stairs in the house were a little dicey, but the heated floors in the bathroom made up for it! We will totally stay here again.

Fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and tidy with comfortable beds. Quiet location, warm and homely would definitely stay there again. My only gripe would be that we had to strip our own beds and take our rubbish with us despite paying for cleaning. We couldn't find the bin mentioned in the house rules and ended up taking our rubbish all the way back to Reykjavik. Clearer instructions please.

Perfect location for viewing Northern Lights

  • 5 of 5

My mother, good friend and I just stayed here in early December for two nights. What a lovely, cozy house! It was easy to find with the directions provided to us by Clive in advance of our stay. The property itself was so nice, modern and comfortable--we wish we would have had a few more days to stay there.

Our first night here, we spent about two hours walking around outside hoping for a northern lights sighting--no luck. But our second night, we saw them! Oh my, what a sight. This was the perfect location--no other people, no other light, superb viewing conditions.

Upon arriving, two of the smoke detectors must have had low batteries, as they were beeping. We sent an email to the manager and got a prompt reply via text message. While we were out exploring the following day, the local manager must have come by to replace them. We appreciated the quick help resolving the issue.

Would highly recommend a visit here. A great base for exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Hope to come back next year!

Beautiful Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 absolutely loved our stay. The lodge was very clean with a well-stocked kitchen, lovely bedrooms, and unbeatable views. Entry instructions were very easy. We appreciated the amazing location, within easy driving distance of much we wanted to see. We would highly recommend this VRBO!

Please note: The shape of the lodge is such that it is necessary for the stairs between the two levels to ascend/descend steeply with a split step design. It is therefore not suitable for those with low levels of mobility or very young children.
