Adorable Home in a Spectacular Location

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 6 people, but the house didn't feel overly crowded. It's one of a group of aesthetically pleasing houses (all black with white trim) at the top of Hellnar, with spectacular views of the mountains behind and the sea below. The only things we would have appreciated would be wifi and soap/shampoo in the bathroom. It's also worth noting that there is a very steep 'staggered' staircase, so the house wouldn't be well suited for guests with small children or with limited mobility (bathroom is downstairs, while beds are upstairs). Other than that, the house is reasonably equipped and very cozy.

Beautiful home with a great view

  • 5 of 5

We were able to find our VRBO with ease, just based off of the pictures we had seen. Inside the house felt brand new, with gorgeous wood work. I really enjoyed the feel of the common living room area on the first floor. All of the bedrooms had black out curtains, and comfy beds. It was located just a short walk away from a couple of restaurants/coffee shops, and from the water. Don't forget to read the house rules/guidelines right inside the door, which will be helpful for your stay (and be careful not to use up the hot water!). The way to get the key was very easy and convenient for us to check-in/check-out.

Some notes: As per the owner's description, the stairs are quite steep, so this is not a good location to book for elderly or disabled. Also, do yourself a favor and go find the hidden crater/former hot spring near this VRBO. it's a short walk up the hill, and fun to dip your feet into.

Wonderful place! Very clean - no wifi

  • 4 of 5

Loved the quaint little glacier lodge. GPS directions are a little off when trying to find it in the dark. But we managed after a little seeking.

As one who works on the road I rely on in car wifi and wifi where we stayed for work. This place does not have wifi. But everything else was great.

Exploring the West (of Iceland)

  • 5 of 5

We we're on our 2nd visit to Iceland as the first visit took us to the southern to eastern part of Iceland. This time we decided to visit the North side (Akureyri) and then we drove down to visit the west side. We stayed here and it was perfect. It was right on the ocean which was a nice benefit and we couldn't ask for anything better as our home base on the west side.

You will not go wrong here at all for you visit and it was very close to the highway. We also ate at Hotel Hellnar which is very close by.

Wonderful views from a really nice house

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay ar Glacier Lodge. The views of the Snaessfellsjökul are brilliant - especially when you have blue skies like we had. The house is cosy and comfy. Our children loved playing in the meadows around the house. Plenty of spectacular hiking opportunities in the vicinity. The only thing we could have wished for was some outdoor furniture on the small wooden terrace with views of the volcanoe.

Please note: The shape of the lodge is such that it is necessary for the stairs between the two levels to ascend/descend steeply with a split step design. It is therefore not suitable for those with low levels of mobility or very young children.
