The Cottage is situated in a great area for Outdoor Activities such as general Hiking and Mountain Bikes. Grizdale forest is less than 2 miles away.

We had a great week in this comfortable, well maintained cottage. Great views from the upstairs living area. We had an amazing week cycling in Grizedale Forest which is a short drive away.

Comfortable Cottage, well equiped, perfect place for a wonderful Lake District holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We loved to stay in this cosy cottage. It is really well equiped and Hawkshead is a beautiful littel town with many pubs, restraurants, some tea rooms, gift shops and a coop market. Its a perfect place for hiking or visiting sights nearby like Ambleside, Windermere, beautiful fells, falls and tarns and of course Beatrix Potters Hill Top Farm.

We would rcommend this cottage.

It is a great value cottage in an ideal location.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It is conveniently situated within walking distance from lovely Hawkshead and Grizedale forest and close to Coniston and Ambleside with regular buses from Hawkshead. It is also a five minute walk from Esthwaite Water which is a lovely quiet lake. The first floor offers an amazing view of the hills opposite.

The cottage was clean, well maintained, tasteful and it has anything one can ask given its size, price, location and purpose. We found some of the appliances tricky to work out, particularly the heaters downstairs, so check the black book with all the instructions and manuals above the microwave oven and the stove was rather temperamental but nothing to spoil our stay. The shower was also not ideally situated for a full drench but again this is a small thing.

The kitchen has all mod cons and the living room has the most amazing views.

The bedrooms downstairs are rather small but, despite being on a B road, very quiet and the beds were really comfortable so we had some good nights' sleep and, in any case, why go to the Lake District if you are going to stay in the bedroom all day?

We used the daily delivery from the local dairy who deliver all sorts of other things in addition to milk. It was great to wake up to fresh milk, bacon and kindling wood outside the door.

To sum up the description of the cottage was accurate and the communications and directions from the owners thorough and comprehensive. We were pleased with our stay and, considering the price, we think it offers outstanding value for money. Look for it on more than one websites, though. The first website we looked was asking for twice as much for the exact same dates and we had started looking for somewhere else until we found the cottage again on Homestay for a great price.

Cosy cottage in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Vale View Cottage & we have already booked up again for next year! This is a perfect little cottage in the Lake District & with the lounge on the first floor, it allows you to enjoy the views. The cottage is clean with all mod cons for a comfortable stay. Its within easy walking distance of Hawkeshead which has a great selection of fine pubs and shops. Would thoroughly recommend as a great base for a walking holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to give this review. The cottage is in a great location. Esthwaite Water is nearby, the Lake that inspired and Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. There are plenty of good walks from the Cottage Door or go Mountain Biking in nearby Grizedale forest, just 5 minuets by car or 20 minuets on your Bike. Or if the weather is good - enjoy the view and relax sitting in the little garden. Free Wi-Fi is available at the cottage

Lovely littel home

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cosy place to relax. The cottage is perfectly situated at the edge of hawkshead with a beautiful view over the valley. It was also a good starting point for trips and walks.

Mostly amazed we have been about the fresh milk delivered to us from the first day onwards. Definitely a place we consider to return to.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. The Hawkshead area is stunning for walks, especially from the Cottage doorstep. Milk and basic groceries can be ordered from a shopping list situated in the cottage and delivered by the local milkman, directly to the cottage door - first thing in the mornings. This is definitely an added bonus for guests, who love this service whilst staying at the cottage. We are delighted you enjoyed a relaxing and cosy visit during your stay at the cottage and we look forward to welcoming you back again, to this lovely and historical part of the Lake District. Kindest regards, Alexandra
