Why Eleftheria Andreoulakou chose Megalochori
Villa Ivi can be appreciated as an accurate example of the island’s unique architecture. It is hewn vertically into the volcanic soil. Built areas are roofed by domes, or groin vaults in a kind of mould - cast structure. It is made of Santorini black stone and Terra Theraic (Theraic earth) that has insulating qualities and has proven to be an early example of bio climatic architecture (keeping rock-hewn houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter).

Paradise in the perfect spot
This was a perfect vacation home, wonderful for our family of four with two different bedrooms separated by an exquisite courtyard with jacuzzi. Everything was beautiful. The town of Megalachori is the quintessential small Santorini town with several good restaurants and a very quiet atmosphere. We enjoyed it more than the more famous but way too crowded towns of Fira and Oia. Very close to everything if you rent a car, which I would advise to get around island. Go to beach at Perissa and also take boat trip to red beach, black beach, and white beach. Santorini is incredible place and this is the best place to stay on the island. Ester, the concierge, was wonderful in meeting us and telling us about places to visit and eat. Thank you for a fantastic spot!
Cave living In Megalochori 👍🏻
This is a unique property in the middle of a lovely Grecian village. Everyone should have a chance to live in a cave. Especially one with modern conveniences and a heated jacuzzi.
We were met by a delightful agent who welcomed us and gave us many suggestions in order to enjoy the area. The villa was clean and had all we needed. The only suggestion we made was the second bedroom’s bathroom was located up some challenging stairs at night. Perhaps the addition of a railing would provide safety.
The little village had restaurants and a few very nice shops within walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful house in a wonderful village
This apartment is so lovely. It's just as described, only more so. We had five people staying there (one child) and it was perfect for that number. Someone came to tidy up every day so that was a luxury. Our hostess Ester was great and completely responsive to all our questions. The courtyard is so relaxing and beautiful and the interior of the house is quintessential Greek village design. We were very happy to be staying in a small, not crowded village, away from the bustle of the more touristy towns. There are great shops and restaurants in Megalachori as well. We loved having coffee in the outdoor cafe in the town square - so relaxing and friendly.
Also, Eleftheria helped us get a rental car from this great company called Santorini Cool Cars. The guy met us at the airport with the car, guided us to the house (only 10 minutes or so from the AP) AND let us drop the car off at the ferry when we were leaving. It was so convenient and really, a car is necessary if you want to explore the island properly.
If you're going to Santorini, this is a perfect place to stay.
Very comfortable, excellent location, very clean.
Location, location, location. Small village, welcoming vendors and restaurants within a two minute walk. Daily cleaning of rooms. Beautiful courtyard and landscaping. Views of cathedrals and blue sky. Exceptional welcome and orientation.
Nice place in a quiet town
The villa is in Megalochori, a quiet town away from the tourist zones of Fira and Oia. The town lacks the breathtaking views, but gives you more of a sense of how the locals live, since it's not overrun by tourists. There's a small town square with restaurants and a mini-mart (unfortunately, the supermarket is a bit farther up the road, and would require a car). Less than a five-minute walk away, on the main road, is the bakery, which serves baked goods and cooked food--a solid and affordable meal. It's also the landmark for tourists and the bus stop, from which you can catch a bus to the beaches, Akrotiri, Fira, etc.
Esther, the concierge, was very welcoming and helpful. She met us at the bakery to walk us to the villa, and was available throughout our stay to answer questions via text. Overall, the villa is spacious and comfortable. The small pool was refreshing and relaxing. But it's not quite as luxurious as you might think. The building seems older, and the villa is a little worn on the edges and could use some updating. There is a humidity issue, and the main bathroom has a slight odor. And, during our stay, mosquitos kept biting us throughout the night. The bites were small, and Esther had the housekeeper spray and leave mosquito repellent plugins, but the mosquitos were still annoying. Accommodation in Santorini can be expensive, so given that expectation, the value of the villa was fine and it served our purposes.
The property was perfect for us and in a perfect location to travel over the whole island.
The large room was perfect and cool. Esther kindly organised for both rooms to be sprayed for mosquitos which was very kind. Esther also organised our catamaran trio which was amazing! Eleftheria the owner was lovely in her comminicatIons before the holiday and Esther went out her way to accommodate us while there. The village itself is gorgeous and a great base to travel over the Island! Would deffo go back.
Villa Ivy is located in Megalochori, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages of Santorini. Sheltered from the Cycladic winds, the traffic – free white streets of Megalochori provide a peaceful and sought after alternative to the busiest tourist centers of Santorini, Fira and Oia. Megalochori’s location in the center of the island is the ideal springboard to enjoy the attractions of Santorini Island, the famous sunset, the wineries, the local cuisine and the sea.
It’s a common secret that large parts of the local population chooses Megalochori as their permanent resident and refer to it as a “safe harbor”.
