Villa IvI is a fully restored, historic cave house with an inner cobbled courtyard and an outdoor Jacuzzi. It is located in Megalochori with its Venetian architecture, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages of Santorini, just a short drive away from all the main touristic attractions. Built under the church of St. Anarghyri, with its wonderful bell tower, Villa Ivi is a charming retreat for two couples or a small family seeking a private haven to experience the traditional life of Santorini.
Prominent features are the high walls and the solid wooden entrance, built for privacy and safety against marauding pirates. Painted blue doors lead the guests into the private beautiful courtyard, with the stone built Jacuzzi, the comfortable sun beds and the built – in sofas, a real oasis of calm and tranquility in the hectic summer months.
The main house consists of the open – plan kitchen/ dining and living room area, the master bedroom, the walk – in closet and the large vaulted terracotta bathroom that makes for quite a romantic ambiance. In the guest house, with its own private entrance from the courtyard, is located the second master bedroom and a small charming en – suite bathroom.
The villa owner has preserved during the renovation the historical architectural elements of the early 20th century construction and added all modern amenities (WiFi, Satellite TV, DVD player, I –pod/ I - phone deck station, air – condition etc).

Why Eleftheria Andreoulakou chose South Aegean
Villa Ivi can be appreciated as an accurate example of the island’s unique architecture. It is hewn vertically into the volcanic soil. Built areas are roofed by domes, or groin vaults in a kind of mould - cast structure. It is made of Santorini black stone and Terra Theraic (Theraic earth) that has insulating qualities and has proven to be an early example of bio climatic architecture (keeping rock-hewn houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter).

We stayed at the Villa Ivi for a full week in early September. In addition to my husband & I, we had our 2 kids (8 & 4). This is an absolutely gorgeous villa in a picturesque little village Megalochori on the breathtakingly beautiful island of Santorini.
The villa is literally carved into the earth -cave house- and so traditionally unique, yet very well equipped with modern amenities. There are 2 bedrooms (the master bedroom especialy is very spacious and perfect in every little detail), 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchenette with everything you need, a lovely little jacuzzi and plenty of outdoor space to lounge, eat meals in or simply enjoy the fresh air. Housekeeping services are included. In addition, the concierge, a charming lady called Ester, can arrange for a variety of additional services like massages in the villa, restaurant reservations and boat cruises from the nearby ports.
I cannot say enough nice things about Ester the concierge! We arrived much earlier than the check-in time, but she went out of her way to get the villa ready for us quickly after the previous occupants had checked out, understanding that we had little kids with us. She was always available, very responsive and incredibly helpful. She reconfirmed dinner reservations and even snagged us a private boat cruise at the last minute at a good price.
The location is really what makes this villa worth it. Megalochori is a quiet little village far from the hustle and bustle of bigger towns like Oia & Fira, but much closer to the beautiful beaches on the south side of the island. Although it is not on the caldera, you don't miss it as you are never too far from it. The peace and quiet of the location is interrupted only by church bells from the many beautiful churches in the village and the sound of people laughing and talking & music playing at the many little restaurants in the village square. By the end of our week, we had got to know the locals a bit & it felt like home!
If you are looking for nightlife and crowds, this is not the place for you but if you want to taste a slice of rural life in Santorini, and experience something that takes you back a few hundred years, book this place now!
It also helps that one of the more popular wineries in Santorini (Gavalas winery) is literally 20 steps away from the villa! :-)
A real gem in Santorini, charming and exquisite experience
This was a wonderful finding that highlighted our stay in Santorini. The main house is set inside of some sort of a cave and it had a very unique feel of cooleness at the same time of comfortable warmth. We were very well received by the host who was very resourceful and gave us many practical tips. The rooms were very comfortable and separated by a very romantic patio with a jacuzzi running during the day, which we would wake up to the soothing sound of the water. The kitchen did not have a dishwasher or microwave, but to our surprise it did not matter at all, as unlike other places we visited, we felt no need or will to cook or prepare anything other than a nice espresso to start the day. Staying at this place you need to strip out your usual expectations and frugal needs to really be able to enjoy the unique experience that the house architecture provides. The shower will be planned and timed as you have a limited source of hot water that you turn on about 20 min before showering. Showers should not take too long if you have a bigger group, but again, who wants to spend more than 10 min on the shower with so much to do outside? In the main house ( the one set inside the cave) the owner smartly set 2 dehumidifiers running all times, as ventilation is limited in the bathroom and it avoids too much moisture to accumulate. Sometimes you may find some water running out of the equipment in the bathroom, especially if you have 3 people taking showers and the humidity increases. This was something we learned, but it did not turn out to be a big deal. We just wanted to share so that you won't have any surprises and ruin your experience. This in fact proved to us that we need to embrace the full experience with all that comes with. The other wonderful surprise was to realize that we picked one of the most delightful spots in the island to stay. Megalochori is a very charming and nice neighborhood. We were literally surrounded by historical buildings, boutiques, restaurants, a mini market and a traditional Greek bakery with very helpful owners, who are ready to help you to find a transfer or any other helpful info you need. Last, but not least, we had the most wondeful surprise to find out that we were about 3 min from the oldest and most traditional winery ( Gavalas). We just walked in and were welcomed by one of the nicest people we met in the island. Dimitria, the owner's daughter, guided us through the facilities and through a delicious tasting
Beautiful, tranquil retreat
Really peaceful home to stay in, beautiful village away from the majority of the tourists in high season. The house is set under the church and is has a charming courtyard to relax in. The home has eveyting you need and is beautiful, we would highly recommend this property.
Great place in a beautiful town
Beautiful place! Megalochori was a quiet town with very nice people. If you want to spend your vacation in a quiet and relaxing place, this is the right one! The house is beautiful, we enjoyed it very much
Villa Ivy is located in Megalochori, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages of Santorini. Sheltered from the Cycladic winds, the traffic – free white streets of Megalochori provide a peaceful and sought after alternative to the busiest tourist centers of Santorini, Fira and Oia. Megalochori’s location in the center of the island is the ideal springboard to enjoy the attractions of Santorini Island, the famous sunset, the wineries, the local cuisine and the sea.
It’s a common secret that large parts of the local population chooses Megalochori as their permanent resident and refer to it as a “safe harbor”.
