Why Eleftheria Andreoulakou chose Megalochori
Villa Ivi can be appreciated as an accurate example of the island’s unique architecture. It is hewn vertically into the volcanic soil. Built areas are roofed by domes, or groin vaults in a kind of mould - cast structure. It is made of Santorini black stone and Terra Theraic (Theraic earth) that has insulating qualities and has proven to be an early example of bio climatic architecture (keeping rock-hewn houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter).

Loved the little village of Megalochori away from the crowds and traffic. Did not get responses from the property via VRBO website and finally had to phone. Apparently there were issues with the internet or website. Once I called, received fabulous service from Ester.
Super cool experience to stay in this place. A great restaurant a couple minute walk into the village.
Great cave in a great location
Lovely unique experience in enchanting Santorini.
What an experience!
Staying at Villa Ivi in Megalchori Village provided a taste of what living in a Santorini village. Tavernas, shops, market and winery are all within a short walk.
Our concierge, Ester, was AMAZING! She greeted us when we arrived from the airport, escorted us to the villa, showed us around and took the time to provide some helpful suggestions on places to eat and visit since my parents were traveling with us and had limited mobility. This last part was a lifesaver for our trip!! The recommendations she made were spot on which allowed everyone in my family to truly enjoy Santorini! Ester also coordinated a car rental which allowed for easier travel around the island.
The only reason this review did not get 5s across the board was because I felt that the pictures and description of the guest room was not entirely accurate since there was no mention or picture of the steps needed to climb to get to the 2nd bathroom. Also, not sure about the ability to sleep 6 since the fold out sofa folded up on my 14 year old son on the 2nd night. He said he slept much better on the couch when it was not pulled out.
Overall, I would still recommend this property to friends traveling to Santorini and, if available, stay here again when we return without my parents. :-)
Paradise in the perfect spot
This was a perfect vacation home, wonderful for our family of four with two different bedrooms separated by an exquisite courtyard with jacuzzi. Everything was beautiful. The town of Megalachori is the quintessential small Santorini town with several good restaurants and a very quiet atmosphere. We enjoyed it more than the more famous but way too crowded towns of Fira and Oia. Very close to everything if you rent a car, which I would advise to get around island. Go to beach at Perissa and also take boat trip to red beach, black beach, and white beach. Santorini is incredible place and this is the best place to stay on the island. Ester, the concierge, was wonderful in meeting us and telling us about places to visit and eat. Thank you for a fantastic spot!
Cave living In Megalochori 👍🏻
This is a unique property in the middle of a lovely Grecian village. Everyone should have a chance to live in a cave. Especially one with modern conveniences and a heated jacuzzi.
We were met by a delightful agent who welcomed us and gave us many suggestions in order to enjoy the area. The villa was clean and had all we needed. The only suggestion we made was the second bedroom’s bathroom was located up some challenging stairs at night. Perhaps the addition of a railing would provide safety.
The little village had restaurants and a few very nice shops within walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Villa Ivy is located in Megalochori, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages of Santorini. Sheltered from the Cycladic winds, the traffic – free white streets of Megalochori provide a peaceful and sought after alternative to the busiest tourist centers of Santorini, Fira and Oia. Megalochori’s location in the center of the island is the ideal springboard to enjoy the attractions of Santorini Island, the famous sunset, the wineries, the local cuisine and the sea.
It’s a common secret that large parts of the local population chooses Megalochori as their permanent resident and refer to it as a “safe harbor”.
