A little slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a three day break and feel refreshed, relaxed and ready to face the world again. The cottage is beautiful, extremely clean and very well presented. The location is stunning and the views are absolutely breath taking whether it be fine or overcast. The directions to the cottage were very clear and easy to follow. The cottage is well positioned to visit many surrounding attractions – a beautiful reservoir is a short drive away. Or if you enjoy walking, there are an abundance of routes to suit all abilities just on the doorstep. Nothing was too much trouble for Mike and Janet. They were generous hosts who went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our break to the full. Although we didn’t use the hot tub, it is in a perfect location just above the cottage to enjoy an amazing panorama of the Welsh countryside. The clay pigeon shooting is also definitely worth a go. We would unreservedly recommend this property and plan to visit again in the near future.

Beautiful cottage .. Disappointed over customer se

  • 1 of 5

Owner phoned at 3.30 just as we were about to set off for our wkend in Forest Cottage .. He informed us that the hot tub was broken and wouldn't be working at all over the wkend as parts were needed .. My 5 yr old Geandson was so disappointed ( stood in his armbands lol ) .. I asked Michael if I could call him straight back after I spoke to my family to see what they wanted to do .. My husband chose this cottage originally for the hot tub which it is listed under and also describes in the facilities , as having a hot tub .. It's a 4 hr drive for us so my hubby asked if maybe we could have a discount with the last minute news of no hot tub .. The owner refused which we had no problem with and he promised to honour our deposit if we chose to rebook at a later date when hot tub was repaired .. We were very happy with this outcome as Grandson was hugely disappointed .. We have been to this cottage before and considered michael and Janet fantastic hosts and also our friends ... Since trying to rebook to take our Grandson we have been told very rudely they will no longer honour our deposit as our fault for cancelling at last minute .. Also apparently the hot tub is not advertised on the website they informed me .. Which I find ludicrous .. Very very shoddy treatment .. They can have the deposit obvs money comes before gd will or customer service !!!.. Original biokibg was in April

Owner's Response: What a shame that guests booked the cottage purely for the hot tub.. To cancel a weekend away because the hot tub was out of order is very upsetting as we pride ourselves on the locality and pleasure the cottage has given our guests. The hot tub is complementary and not part of the price of the cottage. The fault of the hot tub was beyond our control and the honourable thing was to inform the guests before they arrived not expecting such bad manners and abusive text message.

Lovely cottage,stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week at this lovely cottage which benefits from being in a stunning location. You have to try the hot tub. Had great weather but you get a feel whatever the weather or time of year it still be stunning. If you are going with the dog ( forest on the door step , owners are dog lovers so are more than happy to advise where to go. ) or just enjoy walking there loads, never got to go to all the places I had planned. ( good excuse to go back ). The owners Janet and Mike are a lovely couple and are very approachable.

We stayed at the property for a short 3 night break. It is a lovely cottage with great character set in wonderful country. Mike and Janet are very welcoming. The hot tub is lovely and we used it mainly in the evenings watching the sunset over the distant hills. Definitely recommend at at some point will be back. Adi & Sally

Pastoral Perfection

It takes a bit of effort and a good navigator to find the cottage from the M4, but as you get out of the car at the top of the drive, you REALLY hope you’re in the right place. There are spectacular views in all directions. It only gets better as you climb the rise through the garden, to laze in the hot tub in the afternoon. If the weather cooperates you will be treated to a stunning sunset.

This cottage is hugely cozy, especially with a fire blazing in the wood stove. The kitchen and bath are well-appointed, and the beds comfy. It feels as if you are all alone on a private estate yet the owners are right next door, unseen down the hill, should you need anything. The only sounds are birds, and the wind.

Mike and Janet could not be more accommodating as hosts. On our arrival evening, because the nearby Carpenter’s Arms was closed, Mike took us into Cwmbran to shop at the grocery. When we found out that we had missed their closing time by half an hour, he left us there to have dinner, and then came back to retrieve us. That level of kindness and service is amazing, and very much appreciated. It’s more than five stars.

And did I mention the hot tub?
