Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Hampshire - Onslow Villa

Refurbished & Well-equipped Maisonette With 3 D/beds, Private Parking & Garden

Location, location, location! This Victorian building (On-slow Villa) is located in the very heart of Southsea in a residential area which is just 300m from both Southsea Common and the shops, bars and restaurants of Palmerston and Osborne road. Albert road and Kings theatre are also only 500m away, while the isle of weight Hovercraft is only a 10 min walk away.

The maisonette has recently been refurbished. On the upper ground floor can be found the kitchen diner, living room, bathroom, laundry cupboard, side porch with entrance. The large Kitchen diner (14'7' x 20') is superb for socialising as is the equally large living room. Both kitchen diner and living room have large bay windows and high ceilings. The kitchen has an American style fridge/freezer with inbuilt wine cooler, an induction hob, built in dishwasher, microwave and a twin oven. There is also a good sized dining table, chairs and sofa.

The washing machine and tumble dryer are found in a laundry cupboard off the hallway. There is a family bathroom with shower bath, toilet and basin.

There are 3 bedrooms on the lower ground floor level. The large master bedroom (14'7 x 20') has a king size double bed, chest of draws and vanity table with mirror and stool. The master also has a high-quality en-suite shower with toilet and basin. A walk-in wardrobe is situated opposite the bedroom. The two smaller bedrooms (14' 6' x 7'6'' and 12' x 7'4') both have double beds and a chest of draws, one has a small walk in wardrobe. All bedrooms have flat screen televisions with built in freeview. Bedroom 2 has a TV with built-in DVD player.

The small courtyard garden to the side of the property is a great sun-trap in the afternoons usually from about 1.30pm onwards. Unlike most other holiday lets in Southsea, the maisonette has private parking to the rear of the property and can park up to 3 cars, which is a real bonus, as parking in Southsea can be a real problem, especially during the summer months.

Upon arrival a welcome hamper of wine or chocolates, milk, tea and coffee await for you.

We provide fresh bed linen, including one bath and hand towel for each guest.

This is a family run property and we strive to give the best possible service to our guests. This maisonette was once our home. Now we use it as our holiday home because of its great location, large living space and private parking.

******PLEASE NOTE: Bookings from families and couples preferred. Please no hen or stag parties, or mixed/same sex groups under 30 years old, you will be declined on arrival if you try it on!***********

We are happy for children under 5 years old to stay, but you need to be aware that we have no cot, high chair or stair gates and that there are steps to the entrances of the property. Min 4 night stay.

About Steven Compton

I was born in Southsea, but moved away very young. I bought this property in 2009 as a business move, but loved the property so much i decided to keep it. I now live with my partner locally and we frequently stay in the maisonette at weekends so we can go out and enjoy what Southsea has to offer.

Steven Compton purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Steven Compton chose Hampshire

The property was built circa 1851. The maisonette was setup as the local ballet school of dancing from 1951 to 2009. We purchased the property and converted it back into the maisonette. Fortunately, all the original features such as window shutters, doors, and high skirting boards were still present. So we sympathetically refurbished the property into a luxury 3 double bedroom apartment with side garden and private parking.

What makes this apartment unique

The maisonette benefits from being in a central location with parking, in addition.

This is now the second time we have visited Southsea and booked in to stay at this property, fabulous house, clean , plenty of room all the facilities you could possibly need as a home away from home.

Owner always responds if you have any questions great customer service.

Great central location for seafront, shopping and a brisk walk into Portsmouth or Gunwharf Keys.

The Central Southern England / Hampshire region

The Central Southern England / Hampshire region

Hampshire is a county on the southern coast of England in the United Kingdom, notable especially for housing the original birthplaces of the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force. It borders Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and West Sussex.

Today, Hampshire is a popular holiday area. Its tourist attractions include many seaside resorts, the motor museum at Beaulieu, with national parks in both New Forest and the South Downs (covering some 45% of the county). Hampshire has a long maritime history and two of England's largest ports, Southampton and Portsmouth, lie on its coast. The county is famed as home of such writers as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, as well as the birthplace of engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The county town is Winchester.

The Portsmouth / Southsea area

The Portsmouth / Southsea area

Portsmouth is the United Kingdom's only island city. The island is separated from the mainland to the north by a narrow creek, bridged in places to make it a peninsula in appearance.

The climate of Portsmouth is much milder than that of the surrounding areas. Located on the south coast, Portsmouth also receives more sunshine per annum than most of the UK. The average maximum temperature in July is 22C, with the average minimum being 15C. The record high temperature is 35C.

Southsea is a seaside resort located within the naval town of Portsmouth, is an all year holiday destination. It boasts a 4 mile long promenade with views across the Solent. The centre of Southsea is within a mile of Portsmouth's city centre. Southsea also has a vibrant social scene with numerous bars and eateries which cater for a range of budgets and tastes.

Southsea beach is mostly flint gravel, but with sand exposed at low tide. There are two piers: South Parade Pier and Clarence Pier; both house amusement arcades. South Parade Pier also contains a ballroom and a bar area. Clarence Pier is adjacent to a permanent funfair.

Just off the seafront is Southsea Model Village which is a 1/12th scale model village with forty miniature buildings, houses, forts, castles and a miniature railway. It was opened in 1956 on the site of a Victorian fort. Another part of the fort has been converted into Southsea Rose Garden.

Canoe Lake is the last remnant of an area of marsh and open water known as the Great Morass, drained in 1886, on which much of Southsea now sits. The lake is topped up from the sea by opening a sluice at high tide. Crabs and fish find their way in, and attract children fishing equipped with a piece of bacon on a string. When undisturbed there are regularly swan and mallard, with less frequent visits from tufted duck, Mediterranean gull, cormorant, little Grebe and occasionally a lone black swan. In summer pedalos can be rented on the lake.

Cumberland House is a natural history museum, butterfly house and aquarium located close to Canoe Lake just off Southsea seafront.

To commemorate the millennium, a scenic walk was created extending to Gunwharf Quays from Southsea seafront. The route is marked on the pavement, and is lined by distinctive blue street lanterns.

The D-Day museum (which holds the Overlord embroidery) is located on the seafront in Southsea, very close to Southsea castle. next door is the Blue Reef and opposite is Southsea Common, a large expanse of mown grassland parallel to the shore from Clarence Pier to Southsea Castle. The Common is a popular recreation ground, and also serves as the venue for a number of annual events, including the Southsea Show, Para Spectacular, Military Vehicle Show, Kite Festival and a variety of circuses including the Moscow State Circus and Chinese State Circus. In August 2010, a life-size (52 ft high) model of an Ultrasaurus dinosaur was erected on the common in conjunction with the local Aspex gallery.

Throughout the summer, there are regular open air concerts and events at the bandstand and on Castle Field.

There are a number of miniature golf courses, a skateboard park, 3 beach volleyball courts and public grass and clay tennis courts.

Towards the eastern end of the seafront is the Royal Marines Museum. Based in the lavishly decorated former Officers' Mess of Eastney Barracks (built in the 1860s for the Royal Marine Artillery).

The Kings Theatre, situated in Albert Road, is a venue that hosts a variety of performances, including productions by the local amateur group the Southsea Shakespeare Actors.

A recently created attraction has been the now annual 'Love Albert Road Day' which is held along one of Southsea's main roads. The event features live music, street art and theatre, stalls, food from around the world, an outdoor cinema, competitions and skate demos. All the businesses from the road remain open for the day.

One of the favourite attractions to visit in Southern England is Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard.
