About Victoria Naudeau

Bought as a run down farmhouse in 1985, my family has lovingly restored Casa Bassa to its former glory. Our family and friends have enjoyed and continue to enjoy holidaying here every year and for a couple of years, Casa Bassa was even called home.

Victoria Naudeau purchased this villa in 1985

Why Victoria Naudeau chose Siena Area

My first memory of holidays when i was little was of Tuscany. We rented a farmhouse along with a coupé of other families for a few summers, and then decided to buy somewhere of our own. Tuscany really is the most wonderful place to get away from it all and relax - both in summer and winter. There is nothing better than lazing by the pool in the summer, or curling up inside by the raging log fire, with a good book or a game of Trivial Pursuits.

What makes this villa unique

Casa Bassa was moulded into exactly what we wanted it to be - a rustic country farmhouse with spectacular views and plenty of room. The interior has many of the original features - including two large stone fire places, large beams, magnificent archways, and large rooms and bathrooms. The house also benefits from a wonderful pool house - perfect for long lazy lunches in the sun.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Casa Bassa is a beautiful old Tuscan farmhouse and was the perfect central point for our stay in Tuscany. We were a party of 7, ranging in age from 16 to 63, and found the villa gave us ample space to gather together or have private time. The kitchen was a great setting for our Tuscan cooking lesson from a chef recommended by the owner, providing all relevant appliances and cooking utensils. The large terrace opening off the master bedroom was a great place to watch the sun set and enjoy the tremendous view of vineyards and olive groves! Our 16 year old enjoyed the pool - it was a bit cold for the rest of us (even though the October weather was much warmer than our Toronto home) - which was clean and well-maintained just like the villa itself. The owner's information and recommendations were great, making our stay even better. She was very easy to deal with. One recommendation - bring or rent a GPS for driving! Ours was used extensively - Italian streets are narrow, twisty and not well signed.

Under the Tuscan Sky - Re-lived!

  • 5 of 5

This villa and the atmosphere exceeded our expectations. As a family we envisioned coming back every year and soaking up the surroundings, surrendering to the rhythm of the country. The hospitality of the locals was heartwarming. We swam every night with great delight. We had a local chef come and teach us the joy of Tuscan cooking. We departed with Buddha bellies and happy hearts. Thank you for the memories.

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

We spend a wonderful week in Casa Bassa. We were two families with kids under 6 years old. The house is huge and everybody had his own space and privacy. The garden is full of trees so that you can stay away from the sun in summer. The neighborhood is nice: small roads for running, Alessandro for oil and wine, Mario for Chianina. Lizzie is really nice and arranged everything before our stay. See you next year Casa Bassa!

A perfect Tuscan holiday

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bassa provided the perfect venue for our Golden Wedding treat for the family.A beautiful rambling house, with amazing views from the house and pool. This is a family house and felt like 'home' straight away, everything we needed was provided. Our group ranged in age from 5 to 75 and everyone was enchanted by the house and grounds and would return tomorrow. Thanks to Sandra the house was ready on our arrival and prior to our visit we received prompt replies to any queries.

Most of our days were spent by the pool with the occasional trip out. Siena only 15 minutes drive with 2 supermarkets to choose from and easy parking. The station is also nearby handy for our family arriving by train. We ate out at Il Ponte, Pianella, great for pizza, La Finestra in Siena behind Piazza del Campo friendly service and good food, and for grown ups at L'Antica Trattoria Botteganova, via Chiantigiana, where we enjoyed two lovely meals. The pool house is a perfect setting for all meals outside and we spent most evening there enjoying the amazingly cheap and good wine.

I would recommend this home as a great venue for family and friends, plenty of space, a bathroom for each bedroom, two lounge areas, but why would you want to be indoors.

It would be wise to arrive in daylight, and to bring antibug lotion, this is in the middle of the country.

Tuscan peace and charm

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful and charming villa is just a short drive from Siena and you swiftly go from hustle bustle, to a serene, gorgeous country setting. It sits high on a hill overlooking the hills of Tuscany with a distant view of Siena. The house is huge. We especially loved the kitchen where we cooked several of our own meals. Even though only one bedroom is shown in the pictures you can be assured each bedroom is spacious and comfortable. The pool in July was a welcome retreat from the extreme heat of the day, and very private. The home was beautifully furnished and spacious enough for ten people.

During our stay there we went to the neighboring Griccioli Vineyard for a wonderful outdoor four course dinner, conveniently located two minutes away.

The negatives poor WiFi service, limited water supply, and a few bugs such as bees and ants. However, you must understand you are in the country. These issues are minimal and really didn't detract from the experience. If you are a WiFi junky you are going to be frustrated. If you are squeamish about a bee or two buzzing around you, or you like to take long hot showers you are better off in a city. For the rest of you, this will be an experience that you will absolutely love! It's beautiful, spacious, comfortable and conveniently located.

Siena and the surrounding Tuscan countryside is one of the most beautiful settings for any holiday. With many historical centres scattered around the countryside, such as Florence, San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti, Motecatini Terme, Cortona, most of which are usually no more than 1 or 2 hrs. drive, you will not be lost for things to do on vacation. And for those who just want to relax and get away from it all - Tuscany is home to many famous wines - what better place to sit back, relax and drink it all in!

Siena is easily accessible too -

Pisa airport is about 1.5 hours drive away

Florence is 1 hours drive away

Rome is 3 hours drive away

And there are good train links from the station in the centre of Siena. is a small settlement located about 15 minutes drive outside of Siena. With plenty of great trattoria's, small shops, cafés in the local area - it is easy to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Sienese life.

Just at the top of the hill to our villa is a local wine producer who happily opens to the public on Saturdays. Just take your bottle along, buy one there and get them to fill it up.

Why not go on a Wine tours? There are plenty - San Felice, the biggest exporter of Chianti, Dievole, Castello di Brolio, Felstrina .....

There is a tennis court is available to hire on an hourly basis, which is a three minute walk from the house. There are many lovely walks around the property and surrounding area.

Horse riding can be arranged at the local stables.

A hot air balloon ride over the rolling countryside can also be arranged, but this is very dependent on the weather.

Easily accessible from many airports, although Florence and Pisa are the closest between 1 - 1.5 hrs. drive away.

Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways are the most common airlines, with Ryanair serving Rome and Bologna airports too.

Train links between both Florence and Pisa to Siena are good with several services daily.

Frequent buses also leave Siena for Florence and Pisa

We recommend hiring a car - the villa is in a rural location with no close bus service.
