About Victoria Naudeau

Bought as a run down farmhouse in 1985, my family has lovingly restored Casa Bassa to its former glory. Our family and friends have enjoyed and continue to enjoy holidaying here every year and for a couple of years, Casa Bassa was even called home.

Victoria Naudeau purchased this villa in 1985

Why Victoria Naudeau chose Siena

My first memory of holidays when i was little was of Tuscany. We rented a farmhouse along with a coupé of other families for a few summers, and then decided to buy somewhere of our own. Tuscany really is the most wonderful place to get away from it all and relax - both in summer and winter. There is nothing better than lazing by the pool in the summer, or curling up inside by the raging log fire, with a good book or a game of Trivial Pursuits.

What makes this villa unique

Casa Bassa was moulded into exactly what we wanted it to be - a rustic country farmhouse with spectacular views and plenty of room. The interior has many of the original features - including two large stone fire places, large beams, magnificent archways, and large rooms and bathrooms. The house also benefits from a wonderful pool house - perfect for long lazy lunches in the sun.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Casa Bassa is a beautiful old Tuscan farmhouse and was the perfect central point for our stay in Tuscany. We were a party of 7, ranging in age from 16 to 63, and found the villa gave us ample space to gather together or have private time. The kitchen was a great setting for our Tuscan cooking lesson from a chef recommended by the owner, providing all relevant appliances and cooking utensils. The large terrace opening off the master bedroom was a great place to watch the sun set and enjoy the tremendous view of vineyards and olive groves! Our 16 year old enjoyed the pool - it was a bit cold for the rest of us (even though the October weather was much warmer than our Toronto home) - which was clean and well-maintained just like the villa itself. The owner's information and recommendations were great, making our stay even better. She was very easy to deal with. One recommendation - bring or rent a GPS for driving! Ours was used extensively - Italian streets are narrow, twisty and not well signed.

Beautiful country villa

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bassa was one of our favorite parts of our Italian vacation. The farmhouse was beautiful and comfortable, the views are breathtaking, especially at sunset! Lizzie offered us many great suggestions during our stay. Sandra was a great help, especially when we needed to fix a flat tire for our car. The location of the house is perfect, close to Siena, but far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. We visited the Griccioli winery up the road and also purchased steaks and wine from Mario Machette on the top of the hill with Sandra's help. Highly recommend booking Eleonora for an authentic in home meal, she was outstanding! Loved, loved, loved it and we hope to be back!

Once in a lifetime experience in idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bassa exceeded our expectations. We celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary there. We had ages 10 to 72 in our group. The house has so many areas to spread out that large groups do not feel like they are on top of one another. The silence and views were amazing. We woke up to deer in the fields and saw a family of boar at dusk. We enjoyed dinner with a chef Lizzie recommended. Sandra set us up for lunch at Mario Machetti's which was amazing. We brought home his Chianti and olive oil! We hope to come back. Next time we would not want to leave the villa and just lounge poolside the entire time.

We Wanted Tuscany and We Got It!

  • 5 of 5

We came to the Tuscany region to get away and immerse ourselves in the Italian countryside. We weren't disappointed! Casa Bassa was perfect!! I agree with some of the previous reviews...the pictures on the internet did not do the villa justice. When you open the doors and windows in the morning and see the beautiful countryside and Siena in the background it takes your breath away. The image will never leave us all...The house was big enough that we all had our own space. The pool was gorgeous and we floated for hours...had a little wine and cheese and it was the perfect day! We had Café Matisse over to cook up our 30th wedding anniversary dinner...Deliciouso!!! We also went up to the restaurant on the hill with Mario and had such a fun dinner experience...singing and little dancing. No A/C but good sleeping weather at night. You will need a car; but only 20 minutes away is Siena and the train into Florence. Internet was spotty at best (if needed)... We would love to come back.......

We all loved this house, loads of room for our extended family, well equipped kitchen for the cooks, gorgeous swimming pool and large terrace for relaxing, perfect covered area for our family meals. The location with magnificent views of Siena and the surrounding countryside was amazing.

Only negative was that the internet didn't function at all for most of our stay which was a problem for members of the family who needed to do some urgent work

The perfect villa

  • 5 of 5

Brilliant villa, amazing views, fantastic weather, just a stunning place to stay that has all you require for a peaceful getaway. Beautiful towns and so much to see all within an hour or so's drive if you're feeling the need for culture although Siena being 20 mins away is a fantastic place to visit. The photos on this website do not do the villa justice; its stunning. Chef Mattisse for your dinner parties is a must, and also is visiting the small restaurant just above the villa although if your veggie don't bother.

Best place to stay and will definitely be going back

Every view is beautiful that never tires

Under the Tuscan Sky - Re-lived!

  • 5 of 5

This villa and the atmosphere exceeded our expectations. As a family we envisioned coming back every year and soaking up the surroundings, surrendering to the rhythm of the country. The hospitality of the locals was heartwarming. We swam every night with great delight. We had a local chef come and teach us the joy of Tuscan cooking. We departed with Buddha bellies and happy hearts. Thank you for the memories.

Siena and the surrounding Tuscan countryside is one of the most beautiful settings for any holiday. With many historical centres scattered around the countryside, such as Florence, San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti, Motecatini Terme, Cortona, most of which are usually no more than 1 or 2 hrs. drive, you will not be lost for things to do on vacation. And for those who just want to relax and get away from it all - Tuscany is home to many famous wines - what better place to sit back, relax and drink it all in!

Siena is easily accessible too -

Pisa airport is about 1.5 hours drive away

Florence is 1 hours drive away

Rome is 3 hours drive away

And there are good train links from the station in the centre of Siena. is a small settlement located about 15 minutes drive outside of Siena. With plenty of great trattoria's, small shops, cafés in the local area - it is easy to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Sienese life.

Just at the top of the hill to our villa is a local wine producer who happily opens to the public on Saturdays. Just take your bottle along, buy one there and get them to fill it up.

Why not go on a Wine tours? There are plenty - San Felice, the biggest exporter of Chianti, Dievole, Castello di Brolio, Felstrina .....

There is a tennis court is available to hire on an hourly basis, which is a three minute walk from the house. There are many lovely walks around the property and surrounding area.

Horse riding can be arranged at the local stables.

A hot air balloon ride over the rolling countryside can also be arranged, but this is very dependent on the weather.

Easily accessible from many airports, although Florence and Pisa are the closest between 1 - 1.5 hrs. drive away.

Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways are the most common airlines, with Ryanair serving Rome and Bologna airports too.

Train links between both Florence and Pisa to Siena are good with several services daily.

Frequent buses also leave Siena for Florence and Pisa

We recommend hiring a car - the villa is in a rural location with no close bus service.
