Please ask for details.
Many of our guests return, some have now been three times in as many years! There is masses to see and do in the area, but often visitors prefer to stay in the spacious comfort of 'home’: a charming stone-built former barn with a lovely sheltered walled garden that is completely private.
Mowbarton Barn is becoming more and more popular for significant birthday celebrations and family get-togethers. Despite being surrounded by peaceful fields, it's surprisingly central for reunions. Not for nothing was Somerset once known as the heart of England...
There's always plenty going on in the area: Glastonbury is around 30 minutes' drive but there are also several other local festivals during the year. Wedmore Arts Festival, the Real Ale Festival, Yeovilton Air Day, Wells Literary Festival. Plus of course Carnival fortnight in November. Some of these dates book up early, so it's worth checking them out in good time. Wassailing at Roger Wilkins is always popular (usually on the 2nd weekend in January) but if you miss that, you can still enjoy his world-famous cider barn when you visit. It's just a ten minute walk away.
The Barn is two miles from the delightful village of Wedmore (pubs, restaurants, butcher/farm shop, deli, chemist, gift shops, boutiques, hairdressers, beauticians, golf course...) and a short drive from Wells with its beautiful Cathedral and Bishop's Palace, Glastonbury, Cheddar, Wookey and a number of nature reserves. The coast is just ten miles away; you can see it on a clear day. … In fact – all you could want is right on your doorstep!
Mowbarton Barn has something for everyone - families, family reunions, ramblers, cyclists (just off Route 33), historians, nature-lovers, bird-watchers, cheese connoisseurs, cider drinkers. Mowbarton Barn also makes a perfect venue for a book club get-away, a bridge weekend, a yoga retreat, a Pilates group. We have a separate 'Milking Parlour' which is available for larger group events or gatherings although most people find the Barn itself is easily enough.
Whatever your preference, this spacious, stone-built barn conversion makes a wonderful home from home. Set in its own secluded walled garden (a sun trap that also offers cool shade in the green, vine-covered corners), the Barn sleeps eight, even nine, in comfort. It has a large farmhouse kitchen with a big table for convivial dining, two separate, oak-beamed sitting rooms, one with log-burning stove, a study (with single sofa bed) and a magnificent sun room which leads onto the terrace and walled garden, ideal for barbecues.
Very large family groups will be delighted to hear that we now have our own Shepherd's Hut across the lane. It sleeps two in fully fitted luxury and provides a secluded and romantic getaway with wonderful views - either for an extra pair in the Barn party, or for couples holidaying alone. A Shepherd's Hut voucher makes a perfect gift at any time.

Mowbarton Barn was fully refurbished in 2013 to make it welcoming, cosy and comfortable. In the well-equipped kitchen there is a double sized range cooker as well as a microwave, dishwasher and large fridge/freezer.
Our bedrooms are named in honour of Mowbarton's past. There are two double-bedded rooms(Hayloft and The Byre); Hayloft has a king-sized bed and an en suite bathroom, The Byre shares the family bathroom and looks out at the former dairy. Then there's a double with linked beds and en suite shower room(we call this room Tractor Shed), and a fourth bedroom with bunk beds (Pigsty!). The large family bathroom (with separate shower) enjoys sensational views. There is also a downstairs cloakroom plus a useful utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Steps from the garden and between some rooms on the ground floor make it less suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Safety gates are supplied if required for toddlers - for temporary installation by guests themselves.
Outside is a very pretty walled garden with barbecue area, terrace and a small lawn. There is also plenty of storage for bikes and parking area for up to six cars.
Bed linen and towels are provided; electricity and oil central heating is included. Free Wi-Fi. The Barn has had solar panels installed last year, so we are proud of our eco credentials.
We bought Mowbarton, along with our own neighbouring property, as part of our move out of London. We love living in Somerset and are busy creating somewhere special for our grandchildren to visit. Our first grandchild was born in July 2013, second in May 2015, and the third in August.
Dorothy Wright purchased this barn in 2011
It is close to family and friends, not too far from London and yet very much in the country. It is an area with a real community feel and one where families have worked on the land for generations. To make it even more special - we planted a vineyard on the property in May 2014 (see picture above) and also acquired a couple of extra acres. Viticulture is proving a time-consuming business but we are confident it will be worth it. The first harvest is due in October 2016. Book your tasting holiday now!
Peace and quiet with stunning views - and yet within easy distance of all manner of attractions. You can stay in - or go out!
This was our second Christmas at Mowbarton Barn and it was lovely! The owners are welcoming and helpful and good neighbours. The house itself lends itself to our friends and family needs. The 3 bathrooms upstairs is a huge plus, the rooms are well furnished and comfortable. Having 2 living rooms - one with a tv and one without is a plus - Granny gets to watch her soaps and we don't. The kitchen is very well equipped and with 2 ovens and a grill it is easy to cook for crowds. The table seats 10 of us for special occasions and it's a pleasant space. The utility room is cool so we keep the veg down there, the laundry facilities are VERY handy as we rotate guests in and out and keep washing the sheets! The owner puts a tree up for us each Christmas. It's welcoming, it's comfortable and we are going back again for Christmas of 2017! That says it all. We highly recommend it for families at any time of year. Must be glorious in the summer! Oh - and in winter we go to the RSPB site at Ham Wall and watch the 750,000 starlings come to roost in the reed beds. Excellent!!
Another superb stay at Mowbarton Barn, this time with the extended family. The weather did its worst, but this just made the barn feel even cosier-we could have stayed in all day!
I can't recommend this place enough-from the welcome cheese and chutney, to the comfy beds, to the idyllic setting, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Total relaxation. We will be back soon!
Our 3rd visit to mowbarton didn't disappoint .such a comfortable, clean and large place for a big family to stay .great welcome pack.so much to do in the area around the barn .will definitely be back again.
We were two families staying, 4 adults and 5 children aged between 2 and 13. The accommodation was fantastic, comfortable and spacious with a touch of luxury throughout - but not so much as you felt the children couldn't move for fear of breaking something! The weather was fabulous but just hanging around in the cottage was a pleasure so rainy days wouldn't have been a chore. The location is the best thing about this cottage; the most wonderful cider farm in Somerset is a short walk, Wells a 20 minute drive and Glastonbury less so. Wedmore two miles up the road has great pubs ( The George was great for kids) and local supplies allowing for local shopping. It's the perfect place for those who love cider, cheese, pubs, heritage and countryside rambles. Highly recommended and we've stayed in a lot of cottages!
This was our second visit and I whole heartedly recommend Indigo Barn to anyone seeking accommodation for a large group. The property owner lives next door and she gave excellent customer service, welcoming us with home made bread, local cheese, butter, chutney and cider. This venue was perfect, with enough space for us all. It was very clean, spacious and relaxing, with very good parking facilities. Its location in the Somerset Levels is rural, but Glastonbury, Wells, Street and Cheddar are all a short drive and there are opportunities to visit small nature reserves also. Wedmore, about 2 miles away has several interesting shops and we had an excellent meal at The Swan,a very popular place.
We had a lovely stay at Mowbarton barn, two family's catching up with newborns each. Plenty of room for both families rituals with a great 'East Wing' 'West Wing' layout. Lovely surroundings and with the weather hotter than mainland Europe, sat in the courtyard, we all felt we'd been transported to the south of France. Couldn't fault facilities at all, very clean, stylish and practical at the same time. As another reviewer said, the photo's don't do it justice. We'll be back!!
The property overlooks the Somerset Levels and is equidistant from Wells and Glastonbury (you can see the Tor from one of the bedrooms), both of which are steeped in historical sights and folklore. Wedmore itself was once part of King Alfred's Royal Estate; he burnt the cakes just down the road! The property is also just 15 minutes drive from Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. The area is famed for bird watching, with several nature reserves within ten minutes' drive. It is also very popular with cyclists and walkers. Ten miles away is the north Somerset coast (Burnham-on-Sea), with Exmoor not much further on. Longleat, Stonehenge and Bath are all approximately an hour's drive away
