About the property

Mulroe Cove

Mulroe Cove is a superb waterfront property and has a truly spectacular and uniquely private setting. It has its own private shingle beach which is only 5 metres from the house and spreads 0.5 km wide. It is a wonderful place to swim, kayak and fish or to stroll and relax on.

Due to its very sheltered position on the South side of the Dunmanus Bay, Mulroe is not only a superb seafront property, but is also set in 5 acres of mature gardens, which comprises a walled garden with Mediterranean and tropical plants as well as various areas of lawn with mature trees and a woodland with waterway. The woodland stretches over 0.5 miles from the house to the main road, thus lending the house a very private and tranquil setting.

At the far side of the beach the sea stretches into a beautiful wild marshland in which many different varieties of birds live and nest.

The house is a lovingly restored stone cottage set in the beautiful walled garden with wonderful sea views. It combines old with new, thus lending the house a timeless feel full of character.

The house consists of two separate rental units, the first, called 'Mulroe Studio' sleeps 2, the second, called 'Mulroe House' sleeps 4.

Love on first sight - and on the last, too

  • 5 of 5

Yeahh: truth be spoken: this is it! Be you a writer or a painter, a yogi, a tired Business person or someone, who likes peace, you are right - right here. After enjoying approaching through a romantic site, we stepped into the house and just loooooooovvvvvved the very, very old furniture mixed with fancy modern stuff, everything utterly comfortable and the extra treat: enough lamps to read!!

The view is stunning, and if you are a night owl, you see more stars than you thought, there were...

A short trip away are lots of villages and towns, colorful and filled with the nicest people, art, music, pubs and going-ons, let alone the Ring of Beara (instead of Kerry).

Last but not least: to talk to Stephanie was a treat in itself - great and absolutely interesting person.

Please trust me: this place you can really enjoy, unless you Need gee-gaw, huge sandy beaches and distraction from morning to night right next to you...

Ein gute Wahl!

  • 5 of 5

Great, see my comments below though.

  • 4 of 5

I very much enjoyed my stay at Mullrow cove, Durrus, County Cork, Ireland, however it turned a little sour to say the least when I was asked to pay 55 euros for cleaning by the owner. This, I thought I had already paid?

I paid 454 euros for 7 nights stay and 55 euros for services of which i thought was for the cleaning. It seems a little coincidental that I was billed 55euros for cleaning by the owner and 55 euros by yourselves. I paid 509 euros to you.....if it is the case that the 55 euros was for cleaning, what is the 55 euros you have received from me, for?

Would appreciate a response.

Kind regards

M S DENWOOD

Owner's Response: Dear Maurice, As I explained, the fee you paid when booking is a booking fee or a commission charged by the website for online bookings and not the final cleaning fee. In this case it is a coincidence that they are the same amount. It is confusing that the website calls this commission for online bookings "service fee". I am sorry that this was unexpected for you, but there is nothing I can do about the online booking fee. This is something the website needs to address. I am glad you have enjoyed your stay and it was a pleasure to have you here. Kind regards, Stephanie

Perfect for Kayaking & relaxing ....

  • 5 of 5

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at Mulroe Cove , we stayed in the Studio , plenty large enough & well equipt for our family of 3 plus our JR Terrier . A huge draw for us was that we could take our Kayaks & launch from just outside the door ( the shore is just yards away) we also hired another Kayak from a guy in Durras called Darren at a very reasonable rate , he even delivered & collected the Kayak. We saw Heron , Little Egret & even a Kingfisher close to the house . We bought prawns straight off the boat from one of the fishermen that keeps his boat in the cove . We enjoyed a couple of excelent meals in Ahakista at Arundals on the pier , local rabbit done 3 ways was perfect .

Stephanie was very helpful without being overbearing , even phoning ahead to the local garage when we had a problem with our car . The car was swiftly sorted and the gentleman in the garage didnt even charge us... What more can i say,.

A stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

Once you turn into the woodland drive leading to the property you leave the world behind and enter a place with such peace and charm with stunning views over the bay. We had a fabulous week relaxing, buying fresh caught crab and lobster (from the fisherman who moors his boat just yards from the Studio) and exploring this magical part of Ireland. The Studio was perfect for us and Stephanie a delight to deal with.

A house with a (splendid) view

  • 5 of 5

As first customers of the Boathouse we can recommend it to anyone who loves te be in a quiet place and who likes to look over the water of Dunmanus Bay and the sky above with its everchanging light. Be sure to have your binocular ready. We saw seals, otters and all kinds of birds just in front of our window.

There is no television or wifi but sitting in front of the windows we didn'd miss it at all.

The Boathouse is brand new. Stephanie had a lot of work to have everything ready just in time for us. The kitchen and bathroom are well equipped.

We liked the little villages on the Mizen Head peninsula en the great views on the hills, the cliffs, the ocean and bays. The Sheeps Head peninsula offers a great variety of loopwalks.

Mulroe is only a short drive away from the Mizen peninsula's sandy beaches, including the beautiful Blue Flag beach of Barley Cove. It is also within easy reach of the Sheep's Head peninsula with its many scenic walkways.

The small, lively village of Durrus is only 4 km away and there you find a grocery shop, several pubs and restaurants and a Cafe with WiFi facilities, a post office and a general hardware store that sells all you need for the beach and fishing equipment.

Mulroe is equidistant from the historic seaside towns of Bantry and Schull, approximately 13 km away. Bantry is a lively town and has more pubs and restaurants, a lovely Farmer's Market on Fridays and a large supermarket that offers online deliveries. At the end of June it hosts the Chamber Music Festival and at the beginning of July the Bantry Literary Festival.

The picturesque seaside town of Schull is famous for its harbour and hosts the famous Fastnet Sailing Race.

We are in easy reach of Bantry House, Mizen Head Lighthouse, Glengariff Bamboo Park, Ewe Sculpture Garden and Glengariff Nature Reserve, Barley Lake and Garnish Island, then onto Beara Peninsula as well as Schull, Cape Clear or Sherkin Island and onto Skibbereen and Lough Hyne.

Activities in the area include: swimming, kayaking, fishing, sailing, surfing, boat trips, scuba diving, horse riding, whale watching, cinema and Spa, walking/hill walking, beaches and golf.
