Enjoy the freedom to roam mountains alone or contact the CAIRN Outdoor Centre 0450344803 and join in their escorted randonnee, escalade or for the brave travel with them to do Haute montagne near Mont Blanc and the Mer de Glace at Chamonix. Alternively use the telecabine panoramic du Mont-Blanc and visit the Ice House. The spring flowers are plentiful mainly orchids and the wild life with a little patience are very close to view.
We enjoy taking the mountain train at St Gervais which rattles along the side of the Mont Blanc range offering spectacular views of Aiguille du Midi Vallee Blanche and additional climbs on foot to view the fauna and flora.
Another favourite walk starting in the village is to the Cross of The Seven Brothers. On the ascent one passes an auberge - call in order your meal / drink and it will be ready for you on your descent two hours latter. Guided walks and sightseeing excursions, equipment hire can be arranged with Skilimandjaro.Tennis and golf lessons also.
In the summer there are two escorted trips organised by the Office de Tourism.
GLACIER SUMMER SKIING: Experience of a life time. The telecabine lift service runs between 7am and 1pm in Tignes. Average travel time by car is 2-3 hours. There is also an helicopter glacier service across the border in Switzerland, allow an hour by car. For further information contact Skilamandjaro.
My mother Claudine, was at a school in Geneva when war was declared and as children we spent many holidays skiing in the area. When she died we decided to put my inheritence towards a flat which we knew she would have loved.
Caroline Anderson purchased this apartment in 2002
We choose this particular property because of its location, bang in the middle of the village hence no car needed. The fact that the area around the flat is a pedestrian precinct means that children are relatively safe to walk to the nearest shop to buy croissants for breakfast and to walk to ice rink to skate alone Another major consideration was the distance to walk with children to catch the free bus to the telecabine - 50 yards. So one child had the job to hold the ski cave open whilst another crossed the road to the bus stop, whilst I collected skis etc.We can see eachother all the time so very safe.
When we were looking for a property we visited 7 before deciding to buy this one. I think it was not only the location but the south - west facing balcony overlooking the forest that sold it to us. It was a bit of a whirlwind weekend but have no regrets that we made the right choice.
An additional benefit is that Claudes is on the top floor and 1 of 2 on the level - it is both warm and quieter than a flat in the middle of a building.
'apartment was very well stocked with everything necessary'
' very convenient as bus stopped right outside - never had to wait long'
' to walk back was not too far'
' it worked really well and we had a great time, and managed to get in 7 days skiing'
'after the run to Sixt we caught the bus back. Well this journey made the trip worthwhile as it passed through some lovely scenerry that we would have missed out on, and a couple of small towns, it took half an hourr'
'we had a great time and would certainly consider renting your apartment again, next time we fancy the Grand Massif'
'we had a fantastic week and we really enjoyed the village. Well situated and appointed appartment'
'just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay and the resort although small was not without night life. The apartment was good . The Shires as the mezzanine has been renamed was more than suitable for M and will be remembered as the land of the hobbits'.
'excellent see you next year'
We had a fantastic family holiday and were perfectly located for a family of 4 with two children aged 6 and 9. The apartment was perfect for the four of us and had everything we needed. The kitchen is small but very well stocked with everything you need. The balcony is perfect for sitting on in the evening (if it's warm enough) and watching the sun go down across the mountains. My 9 year old especially loved his bed on the higher level. The ski bus stops outside and the ski area is just lovely. We can't wait to go back.
I stayed with my two teenage kids for a week at this apartment. It is an excellently situated property close to the centre of the village, the ice rink and, of course, the slopes themselves.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time, the apartment is well stocked and comfortable, warm and inviting. As it is on the top floor it is very quiet, and there is an elevator for tired legs. There is a large ski boot room adjacent which provides plenty of storage.
I look forward to staying here again next year.
CLAUDES, SABAUDIA RESIDENCE IS IDEALY SITUATED IN THE CENTRE OF THE VILLAGE - open all year round for skiing and summer sport activities. CLAUDES MAIN SELLING POINT IS ITS LOCATION
Claudes is situated behind the ice rink and the south / west balcony overlooks the forest. Every thing is just round the corner - no car needed but if you decide to drive there is a secure private underground car park. The flat is in the heart of the village and therefore an easy walk to supermarket, bars and restaurants, including the before mentioned.Skilimanjaro Magasin de Sport (client 20% SKI HIRE discount).
The free ski bus (5 mins to telecabine) stops outside Sabaudia and we as a family have devised a plan - 'lookout' at the bathroom window. As buses pass every 10 minutes we can judge when we have to start the operation; 'collector of skiis & stacker' moving equipment from locker to outside the door; 'runners' carrying skiis to bus stop. Needless to say from the bathroom window one can see the bus stop and the approaching bus. The 'A' red bus and the name of bus stop is 'Fermes du Soleil' .
Les Carroz is an old market town situated in the heart of the French Grand Massif Region near the larger resorts of Flaine.Morzine, Avoriez and Les Gets.
Les Carroz forms a triangle with Italy(Aosta medieval town) and Swtzerland (Geneva, Lac Leman with medieval town of Yvoire). It is about one and an half hours to the Mont Blanc tunnel and the Italian border.
The resort is suitable for all abilities, beginner to black run. Gondola / lift connects Les Carroz to Flaine, Morillon, Samoens & Sixt. 256 km of downhill pistes & 80 kms of cross country skiing. Excellent ski school & day ski club for children. SUMMER - Tennis, Golf, Mountaineering, Alpine walks. The mountain outdoor centre offers walkers escorted excursions & pack mules. Hour drive to Chamonix and glaciers.
Other Activities: Hot air ballooning; hang gliding (year round). Ice skating, Husky Dog Sledging (Winter only).
Golf: The 18 hole golf course at nearby Flaine (10 mins drive) is at 1900 metres and offers outstanding views of the Jura, Belledonne and mount blanc mountain range. The 18 hole golf course at LES Gets is 25 mins drive away. There are no handicap requirements and both beginners and advanced players are made very welcome. Private lessons and weekly competitions are organised. To book your lesson or tee off time contact the club house: golf de flaine - les carroz tel 0033 - 450 90 85 44
Whilst this course is technically demanding and not very long, the course at Chamonix is longer and less taxing, that is in my opinion.
Chamonix has many attractions including the glaciers and the Mer de Glace.
Ski: The new larger gondola telecabine lift system has opened out more connections between the massive and grand massive areas. The massive = 3 green; 14 blue; 9 red; 2 black. Grand massive = 13 green; 41 blue; 56 red; 15 black.
Skier or non skier, enjoy the evening festivities with the vin chaud and jazz parties in the town square. In the summer there are daily games in the square and evening jazz, mime theatre and concerts both in the square and in the church.
The two main ski schools are ESF and Nouvelle Dimension (ESI)where instructors speak English and have an excellent reputation especially with children.
Alternatively Skilimandjaro offer escorted ski / walking days which is an excellent way to explore the network of runs and paths.
Snow boarding, snow walking and cross country lessons are also available for all standards and ages.
The nursery slopes are within walking distance and have 3 short drag lifts.
Group and individual ice skating lessons are available and two sets of skates are left for clients in the ski locker.
