Magical place.

Just returned from the most wonderful holiday at Toulas House in Kalami. There were 6 of us , all adults, from 26-62, and I think the villa is best suited to that age range. It was clean and comfortable and suited us perfectly. There were a few very minor issues with things missing or not working but these did not spoil our holiday one bit and yes the pool could do with a bit of repair, but on a hot day after a walk up from the beach it was lovely to cool off in, or to sit round the edge, feet dangling in the water, glass of wine in hand, looking out over the bay...perfect. The best thing about the position of the villa is the most amazing views from the terrace and bedrooms...breathtaking. However there are other issues to be considered with the view. There are steep steps up to the villa from the road or down from the car park ( which also need a bit of nerve to negotiate). The walk down to the beach (via the road and Hotel steps) takes about 15 mins and is a bit of an effort coming up. The short cut (via the goat path) is quite steep and terrain is rough, again going down not too bad but you need to be fit and have good footwear to attempt the uphill return. Saying this when you get to the bay it is lovely. Small shingle beech, warm clear water, sunbeds and parasols ( 2 Euro each). A few Tavernas all spilling out onto the beach a couple of small supermarkets ( they will deliver if required) and gift shops and a couple of pool bars, just enough to give variety without being too big. We ate in all the Tavernas and they are all excellent. Prices similar to here, or less

As for getting about , ther are coach trips, boat trips and a local bus that go into Corfu town from Kalami and the bus also goes up to Kassiopi. We hired a car from the airport which worked out fine, and did Kassiopi and the water park. Took the boat to Corfu town which was great.

Kassiopi is lovely too with a few more shops and tavernas and a couple of small shingle beaches.

Would I recomend this place to a friend...Most Definitely.

We loved every minute of our stay and will be back for more very soon.

Amazing location with breathtaking views over Kalami Bay.

The property has a lovely balcony, where we spent a lot of our time. Sun throughout the day but umbrella for shade too. The two lower bedrooms also have lovely balconies. The top bedroom was very disappointing, seemed in serious need of some TLC. There were no curtains or shutters at the window so we had to makeshift with towels and sarongs. Also no fan as advertised. The main bathroom also needs some upgrading, no shower curtain so floor get VERY slippy. A car is certainly an advantage as the walk up and down to beach (even through hotel shortcut) is quite strenuous and road very winding with blind corners. Thomas and White House tavernas will pick you up and take you down in the evening to eat. Demetris were very helpful and will pick up from beach if you are eating later with them. We didn't really use plunge pool - very small, and again needs maintainence. Toulas is definitely preferable to Pink House next door (not to be confused with Pink House by beach) which has same ownership. This has a lovely big bedroom at top (and nice pool) but two very dark and dingy bedrooms below. A special thank you to the lovely cleaner, Leila, and to her daughter, Joanna, who were very helpful throughout. This is a beautiful part of Corfu for holiday but next time we would try one of the properties by the sea.

The tiny hamlet of Vlachatika is perched above the bay of Kalami reached by a single track just off the main coastal road. Dimitri's Taverna is a short stroll and the amenities of Kalami are all within walking distance.

Kalami itself is without doubt one of the most picturesque bays on the island of Corfu. It is famous for once having been the home of the writer Lawrence Durrell who stayed at the White House on the beach front. It is only a 2 minute drive or a good 10 minutes walk away via the road or via several pathways. It has a pretty shingle beach and its waters are lovely and clear making it perfect for snorkellers and swimmers as well as those who enjoy lazing on the beach, you can also find watersports down in the bay. The resort has several waterfront taverna´s where you can dine day and night serving fine Greek cuisine and fresh fish daily. You will also find 3 supermarkets, 3 bars and tourist offices where you can arrange excursions, an exchange, car hire and boat hire etc.

There are also many other fabulous waterside taverna´s nearby in the neighbouring picture postcard bays of Agni, Kouloura and San Stephanos. Should you wish to venture a little further Kassiopi is only 10 minutes drive away and has many shops, restaurants, bars/clubs, beaches, and a pretty harbour area if you feel the need for something a bit livelier.

For activities there are many excursions that can be booked in resort and there are 2 Aquaparks within easy reach on the island, a golf course just outside Corfu Town, you can also arrange horseriding and scuba diving.

There are many things to do in Corfu but for sight seeing Corfu Town is not to be missed. It is a wonderful place to visit having plenty to see and do with its Italianate arcades, Venetian fortress and cobbled alleys. It boasts everything from international boutiques to traditional craft shops that line the streets and stay open late into the evening. Aside from shopping you can watch an afternoon of cricket sipping coffee from below the arches of the Liston Arcade or stroll around the square and admire the medieval churches and forts.

Not forgetting the Corfu Trail for those who would like to see the island on foot or the monastery at Paleokastritska and many other attractions on the island detailed below.

The Corfu Trail - those who love walking will love Kalami as there are many paths that wind up through lush countryside, olive, lemon and orange trees, linking each bay along the coast treading in the footsteps of the Durrell brothers, Corfu at its best. The Corfu Trail is a long-distance footpath which runs the length of the island, from its southernmost tip to its northernmost point fully waymarked in both directions. It meanders through all the island's rural municipalities and avoids heavily developed areas to the island's beauty spots, beaches, picturesque villages, monuments, monasteries and diverse landscapes. The official Corfu Trail Guide Book is available in bookshops.

Avlaki Sailing School - there is a local sailing centre in Avlaki, a sweeping picturesque bay with crystal clear waters it has the ideal sailing conditions giving a feeling of security within its protective headlands on either side

Scuba Diving - there are two options www.corfu-divers.com in Kassiopi and www.apollosub.com with dive sites in Barbati and Nissaki. They have a range of options available including instruction for beginners, qualifications, pool training and day and night dives.

Horse Riding - can be arranged in advance or during your stay with our friend Dimitri from Dimitris Taverna who runs a small friendly riding stables also in nearby Avlaki. Spend a beautiful morning surrounded by nature, with animals that you love, experiencing a unique journey on a horse in unspoilt forests with a view that will astound you journeying to a remote beach normally difficult to reach.

Sandy Beaches – for those that would like to spend the day on a sandy beach these can be found by heading further north starting from Kalamaki a very small area just beyond Kassiopi, followed then by Aghios Spiridon a lovely wild and sandy beach backed by a freshwater lake, Acharavi & Roda slightly larger resorts where the beaches stretch for miles, they continue as far as Sidari, though a very large and touristy resort you will find here the famous Canal D’Amour cove.

Mountain Villages - another of our recommended ‘must do’s’ on your visit to Corfu is to hire a car and venture inland. There are still many old villages to be found where time definitely has stood still, too many to be named and discovering such places by accident is all part of the adventure to be had.
