About this property

Classic Vieil Antibes House With Roof Terrace Offering Sea Views

Located in the picturesque heart of Antibes old town, this charming, traditional house is just a few steps from the stunning Picasso Museum, on a quiet cobbled walkway moments from both the shopping and café culture of the Provencal Market and the blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

Boasting a bright roof terrace with stunning sea views, this much loved family home has a classic, laid back style with traditional shuttered windows, exposed beams and Provencal detailing. A short walk from the beach, its traffic free setting makes it an ideal base from which to explore.

As you enter from the pretty, stone set street, the ground floor offers a charming open living and dining area, with a rustic feel and a newly renovated kitchen. A spacious first floor bedroom has a large double bed and an additional antique ‘four foot’ bed and separate shower room. The second floor is an airy double bedroom with classic French style and en suite bath/shower. The top floor holds a high set single bunk bed (right up over the stairs) and opens onto the sun filled roof terrace – perfect for al fresco dining and taking in the spectacular views of the Picasso Museum, Old Town and the sea.

Enchanting
Antibes is beautiful. It has all the charm you would expect from a medieval town but with a vibrant restaurant culture and lively entertainment. The house, is situated right at the heart of the old town with very quick and easy access to all the restaurants, beaches and the fabulous daily market. If traveling by car, you'll have easy access to Nice and Cannes and the surounding beaches. But don't worry about parking, as the town has invested in a huge underground car park which is pristine and only five minutes from the property. If your staying longer than a week, it's best to pay upfront as there is a considerable discount for longer stays. it's well worth it. Don't worry about air conditioning, it;s an old house with thick walls which keeps it cool during the heat of the day. The roof terace is very private, and has views to the bay and the Picasso Museum just 100m away. You feel you are the heart of a vibrant comunity. Booking was easy and the host is always quick to respond. There was a minor issue with a domestic appliance which was resolved within twelve hours, so you are well supported. The property has a charm reminiscent of a byegone age which in some ways is quixotic, but which nevertheless adds to its overall attraction. I would like to express my thanks to the hosts for their very kind hospitality.

Great terrace!
We had a nice stay in this house. We know Antibes well and it was our first time staying in a property with a roof terrace which is a real bonus. We ate all our meals on the terrace and enjoyed the afternoons up there particularly. There are lots of trays to get things up to the terrace and room to put things out when you get up there. After a bit of trial and error we mastered the convection oven and ate in a lot. The pans are good quality so you can cook a lot of things like Provençal stew and meat, sausages etc on the hob. The location as expected was perfect for us in terms of the market, supermarkets and beach. We found it quiet - we were always awake anyway when the bins were emptied which is early (before 6am) but I wouldn’t say it’s a big issue as it’s very quick. There are several houses in the courtyard behind but any noise calmed down by 10pm. We made use of the fans a lot of the time and this was the only downside to the house as we’ve always had AC in apartments when we’ve visited in August but we wanted to see how we got on and you can’t have it if you want a characterful property. You can get a good breeze through the house and manage it proactively but we did have some humid weather which led to a few sticky nights!. The house is characterful and it was nice to have plenty of room. We would stay there again .

Lovely house but not all as described
The house is lovely and nicely done with lots of original features from wooden beams to floor tiles and it is furnished with some antique furniture. We enjoyed the roof terrace despite the 42 steps from ground floor to get there. But I was disappointed in the cooking facilities - there is only a microwave with integrated convector oven which is not easy to cook in - disappointing when you like to bake local fish, etc and this not made clear in the house description. Some of the crockery and glassware is chipped and needs a good sort out. The house info wasn't entirely satisfactory with the manuals in different places in the house (microwave on drawer on top floor). I was expecting more info about the local area - what open on Sunday (including the days of the market) important when you are arriving after closing on Saturday and I know many food shops closed on Sunday. No local maps or info. Not really up to scratch for a house that wasn't cheap to rent. And the tv wasn't working (not that we wanted it but it should have been as mentioned in house facilities).

Old town charm
18 Rue du Bateau is the perfect address for a relaxed stay in the most characterful part of Antibes with all the comforts of home. A delightful house with an air of antiquity but with all the modern conveniences you need and a lovely view from the roof terrace - the sunrises are magical!

About the host

The house has been a much loved family retreat for many, many years. It has been enjoyed by generations of family and friends and although we have recently renovated areas like the kitchen we are keen to retain its character and charm and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The house is a great mix – a few steps from the Picasso museum and close to the bustling Provencal Market, beaches, restaurants, cafés,
nightlife and amenities of Old Antibes, and yet it traffic free setting and picturesque provencal style make it feel like a real escape in the centre of the Old Town.

What makes this property unique

The property is accessed via a pretty cobbled lane in an area that has been pedestrianised to retain its charm. Guests are permitted special access to unload their taxi but beyond this the street remains a car free haven.
