Oz en Oisans is simply one of the most child friendly ski villages in the French Alps. For the smallest members of your family, there is a crèche within easy reach of the chalet.
The ski chalet has highchairs and cots available for your use. We even have a couple of spare buggies so that you don’t have to worry about all that extra luggage. Just tell us what you need at the time of booking and we’ll try to make sure your family ski holiday is as stress-free as possible.
For those children that are old enough to ski, the extensive nursery slopes of Oz en Oisans can provide them with an excellent introduction to this great fun activity.
The fully pedestrianised area in the center of Oz en Oisans means that walking around the village is safe and easy for both adults and children alike.
Chilled Mountain is owned by two Brits afflicted with a great passion for snowboarding and skiing. Having spent many years trying to work out a way of living permanently in the snow, we have come up with the compromise of owning a chalet in the French Alps that we can occasionally visit when work (and family) allow.
Nick & Jayne purchased this chalet in 2007
We have spent the last decade carrying out extensive research into ski resorts – both on and off piste. We believe that Oz en Oisans has the perfect combination of a small family friendly village; an extensive ski area for skiers and snow boarders alike and short transfer times allowing you to get your ski holiday off to a great start. Our policy is very simple, we want you to enjoy some fantastic ski-ing and a relaxing break in a very beautiful place in the French Alps.
Based in the southern Alps, Oz en Oisans is easily accessible by plane or train. Airports within easy reach include Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Chambery. You can read more detailed directions to Oz en Oisans in the how to find us page on our website.
The Vaujany ski region extends from Vaujany to Alpe d'Huez , with 65 kms of runs and 35 slopes catering for every ski-ing ability.
One of Europe's most powerful artificial snow systems maintains snow levels at the lower slopes from 2700m to 1350m. At 3330m the Sarenne glacier ensures that high altitude glacier ski-ing is possible throughout the season!
At the end of the day it is possible to ski right back to the centre of the village where you can stop for a well earned refreshment, or walk the 50 metres back to your Chilled Mountain ski chalet.
Our chalet is within easy walking distance of the lift up to Vaujany and Alpe D'Huez.
The chalet's location was perfect - 50m to one of the main lifts, near the creche and close enough to the village to pop back if you forget anything. Oz itself is largely pedestrianised and you can ski through the village or pull a sledge to the nursery slopes/sledging slope/other main lift up to Alpe d'Huez. There is also a "magic carpet/travelator" on the nursery slopes so it's much easier for young kids learning to ski or getting to the top of the sledging slope.
The chalet is modern and comfortable with a really comfortable lounge area. There is everything you need to relax after a long day on the slopes - TV, DVD, MP3 docking station, Wii, Xbox 360, DVDs, games and toys. You don't need to worry about bedguards, stairgates or kids plates/cutlery - it's all there for you.
Last but most definitely not least is the way that Tom and Ash looked after us. They make a brilliant team and work really well together. The food was second to none. We were very disappointed to have to go out on the staff night off. We've never had food like it in any chalet we've stayed in before. Superb!
We can't wait to get back!
We rented the chalet as a base for a group cycling the Etape du Tour on Sunday 19th July who were arriving and leaving on different dates. The chalet is fitted and equipped to a high standard. The staff were friendly, flexible, helpful, informative and generally fantastic. The food was superb. The price was low and the whole experience of booking, paying, staying and leaving could not be improved. Chapeau Niccola and Graham. Thanks Ash.
We stayed at the Chalets Galibier and L'Etendard for a week with a group of 16 cyclists after a great week in 2014. We had a great week, the Chalets where perfect, well maintained, clean and with great vieuws. But our host Nicola and her partner Graham (chef) made it just compleet!! What a great people to see again, so kind and helpfull. We rented our Chalets self cateredfor most of the days but Graham prepared on two nights a great dinner. And what a great chef he is! We all loved his food! Would I recommand this Chalet? Definitely! Will we be back for AD6 2016? We haven't decide yet but no doubt we will stay here again if so.....
We were two families staying together at L'Etendard. It was the perfect chalet for us. Th bedrooms are on two separate floors which works perfectly for two families. All the living space, boot room, dining area is in one place, which is ideal.
The chalet was spotlessly clean all week, broken bulbs were replaced immediately. A broken drawer (not us!) was mended straight away.
The food was the best we have ever had on a skiing holiday (and we have had a LOT of food over the years). The customer care was second to none, with kids meals served earlier. There is a Wii and an X box
What a fantastic discovery! Graham and Nicola are superb hosts , Graham is an enthusiastic and talented chef providing wonderful, tasty and generous meals whilst Nicola is an attentive ,kind and happy hostess for whom nothing was a problem -- 10/10 for customer service.
Chilled Mountain chalet is quality, comfortable and immaculately clean accomodation which I plan to return to with my wife for her to also experience Nicola and Graham excellent attention. Thanks Graham for the use of the rain jacket in La Vaujany. The 2014 Marmotte was better again than last year !
Six friends rented the Chalet for the Marmotte event.
Stunning Views, very modern, comfortable and well equipped.
The hosts Nicola and Graham were amazing. Graham is not just a chef but an artist, the meals were superb and always with a piece of theatre!
A hidden Gem, and the highlight of the trip. Thanks.
We stayed at the Chalets Galibier and L'Etendard for a week with a group of 11 cyclists. We had a great week, the Chalets where perfect, well maintained, clean and with great vieuws. But our host Nicola and her partner Graham (chef) made it just compleet!! What a great people to meet, so kind and helpfull. We rented our Chalets self catered but when I asked Graham if he could cook for us on the day of the big day itself that was no problem. And what a great chef he is! We all loved his food! Would I recommand this Chalet? Definitely!
Oz Station, though modern, is not a large village, consisting of one main car free street with all the major amenities, boulangerie, café, bar, pizzeria, Sherpa (local shop). This is not the place to head for if you are planning to hit the clubs until 4am every morning but if you like a village where the ski Rental shop recognise you in the street, everyone says hello and you get a real sense that children are welcome then this is the place for you.
Two major telecabins link Oz to the Grand Rousses domain, the Poutran (link to Alpe D’Huez and Grand Rousses) and the Alpette (link to the Vaujany ski area and Grand Rousses).
The skiing in the Grande Rousses is superb, we very quickly developed a routine of up the Alpette. Skiing the Vaujany area as a warm up, before then heading up to Pic Blanc and skiing the Serene, Europe's longest black run. A few more runs around Alpe D’huez and a quick bite to eat followed by an afternoon of working our way around the rest of the area before cruising back to Oz.
It wasn’t a hard routine to fall into. Those with children adopted a slightly different practice, 0930 saw them dropping the little one off at the crèche, grabbing a few hours on the slope before collecting the children and returning to the chalet for lunch (self prepared) followed by additional plans for the afternoon. Having the chalet as a convenient day base allowed them to adapt to the follies of mountain weather and the energy levels of young children.
