Fantastic Property and Location!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Joanne for letting us stay in your wonderful property over Easter. My family and I had a wonderful break. The property and location really made our stay enjoyable for everyone.

We are already looking at other possible dates to return with some friends.

The property is so spacious and kitchen is well equipped with plenty of storage space. Second lounge upstairs provides a good playroom for the kids. Every room in the property offers great views of the loch, mountains and wildlife. I don't think we used the Television all week as we would rather look out of the window at the scenery when we were in the house. The photos of the property were what sold it to us however they didn't actually justify how splendid the property really is.

So many great things to do close by. We climbed Ben Nevis, went to some fantastic beaches, castles, Loch Ness (although didn't get to see the monster as I think it was spotted on its holidays in the river Thames that week). Bike hire and high ropes at the Nevis range is well worth a visit.

We ate out a few nights and I would really recommend the Ben Nevis Inn which is at the start of the path up the mountain. This is a converted barn with a really good atmosphere and fantastic food and the night we were there had some really good local musicians playing.

Looking forward to coming back up to Scotland again soon! Thank you.

A beautiful house, immaculately presented.

  • 5 of 5

This lovely, warm, spacious house effortlessly accommodates 12 people. There is a welcome (given the vagaries of Scottish weather) utility area and a kitchen which makes catering for the masses a genuine pleasure. As the elders of the group my husband and I were particularly pleased with the small suite over the garage, with its own staircase, which gave us some respite from the grandkids; although the bedroom is the smallest of the 5 it was perfectly adequate, with a nice shower room and extra storage on the landing. It made a big difference to our enjoyment of the week. The other 4 bedrooms are very well-sized, and having one on the ground floor makes the house suitable for less mobile people as well.

The house looks over Locheil, and sitting at the dining table or working in the kitchen watching the ever-changing moods of the loch was a daily treat. A pity though that you can't get to the shore. A few miles up the Mallaig road is a turn-off which takes you to the other side of the loch, and Glen Finnan, an essential visit for Harry Potter fans. The scenery on the Mallaig road is second to none. A few miles down the road is a handy Co-Op so you don't have to go all the way into Fort William for the bits you left off your supermarket list.

We found the house very well-positioned for the varied interests of our group, which included mountaineers, low-level walkers and sightseers. Fort William is a good base for a family holiday with young children, as there are child-friendly attractions and sites of interest within a 10-20 mile radius. From Mallaig there are ferries to Skye and the Small Isles; a happy compromise for our group was the 4-hour round trip to Eigg and Muck. We personally had a couple of good dinners at The Moorings, a hotel restaurant right next to Neptune's Staircase, the impressive lock system on the Caledonian Canal.

All in all, we could happily have lived at Locheil Lodge permanently and were all sorry to leave. It is the best self-catering accommodation we have had to date - and we are a fussy bunch.

Top place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic long weekend staying at Locheil Lodge. The house is obviously modern which means that everything works and the place was spotlessly clean. We were very fortunate with the weather which meant that we spent 4 long days out on the hills. Having been out all day we really appreciated coming back to a warm and welcoming house. I can't fault this place - it was excellent and we will be back next year.

lovely modern warm well layed out house

  • 5 of 5

the house was lovely and having access through the garage or utility room was great with 10 soggy walkers. it meant all our wet kit was sorted before we entered the house. the underfloor heating was great the house was warm and welcoming. the kitchen was fantastically well equipped and the house provided plenty of space to relax. we would definitely come again.

if we had to be really picky and I mean really picky as most of work as cleaners the sofas had not been pulled out when hovered and grout and corners of the bathrooms are getting close to needing a deep clean but that's me being really really picky.

A fantastic property for families

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the house together with my sister's family for the week over Christmas. The property is ideal for 10 people with plenty of bathrooms, two lounges, a dining room and super kitchen. As I keen cook and with Christmas to celebrate, cooking was given high priority. We cooked a full turkey (7kg!) dinner using the two ovens. The kitchen was very well equipped and we were hard pushed to find anything that was missing! (there was even a slow cooker so you could throw in the ingredients in the morning and come home to the delicious smell of dinner) The weather was very wet and windy all week so we had to find some indoor activities (e.g. bowling and swimming) to intersperse with the walks in our waterproofs. We went to explore the Glenfinnan viaduct walk and also Steall falls in Glen Nevis with it's wire bridge over the river for the most adventurous ones of the party.

We would love to come back around Easter time one year to enjoy all that the area has to offer in better weather. I would thoroughly recommend the house to anyone looking for accommodation in the area. It was clean, warm and friendly. Thank you Joanne and Adrian for your friendly welcome.
