Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Fife & St Andrews - Shoreleave

3 Bedrooms, 2 Living Rooms, Dining Kitchen All With Sea Views

Shoreleave has regularly featured in photographs and paintings of St Monans harbour as a grey B listed three storey building dating back to 1700s in need of upgrading. However Shoreleave is now beautifully upgraded taking pride of place right on the harbour front. The property has been completely modernised whilst retaining many original features including original exposed beams, ecclesiastical stone arch and fireplaces. An original cast iron roll top bath has been added to one of the bathrooms offering a sea view as you bathe! The restorer commented it was the best view he had ever seen from a bath!

On the ground floor there is a very large open plan kitchen, dining and living space with a log burning stove. The dining area can seat 10 people comfortably. The living area has a sofa bed offering additional accommodation. The cloakroom with basin and wc is also on the ground floor. The back door opens out to the paved terrace area with a barbecue, patio table and chairs and potted plants.

The property has three large double bedrooms: one double and one twin on the first floor with an adjoining bathroom. On the top floor there is the second double bedroom with an ensuite double shower room. There is also an additional shower room on this floor. There is a second large living room giving elevated views over the harbour whilst offering additional accommodation on a sofabed.

Seating is available to sit outside at the front of the house whilst soaking in the views or chatting to walkers as they pass by.

From the moment we walked through the front door, we knew this was going to be a special holiday house. My daughter described her stay as feeling like being in her own home, due to the cosy and welcoming feel of the house; she loved the decor colours, the comfy chairs, log burning stove, Molten Brown in every bathroom, ice cream from the Diving Gannet, and the ability to draw and paint wonderful views from every window. My husband was so de- stressed that he forgot what day it was by day 2! We walked to Elie, had fish suppers from Anstruther, visited the great Ardoss farm shop and bought gluten free sausages, spent time in St Monans, ate at the fabulous Craig Millar for lunch, visited Kingsbarns beach and spent a lazy afternoon on the little beach opposite the house on the cleverly provided pop up chairs. Felt like we could have been in the Costa Del Sol as the sun shone every day. The walk along to the windmill was stunning, with changing light, colours and clouds on every visit- the dog thought he had died and gone to heaven! We were visited by family and friends who were most impressed. If the kids had to find any small thing to ask for, it would be a pizza cutter but let's face it, a sharp knife does the same job. The East Neuk is one of my favourite places on the planet and we will certainly come back to Shoreleave for our holidays. Thank you for sharing your lovely holiday home.

We love it when people enjoy the house and the fabulous village and surrounding area as much as we do. We'll pop a pizza cutter in to the drawer, thank you for the suggestion. A very comfortable and beautifully decorated house in the perfect situation overlooking the harbour.

  • 5 of 5

Shoreleave is very comfortable and beautifully maintained throughout. The stove downstairs is easy to light and provides a very cosy and relaxing atmosphere. We love it's position and the fact that the sea view from the upstairs lounge is superb. We had a meal at Craig millers and there is easy access to the coastal path.

Fabulous house in an amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a wonderful, winter week. The house is right on the harbour so every window on all three floors provides a stunning view.

The house is very well equipped, the beds are comfortable and everything is clean and well maintained.

There is a second sitting room on the top floor where you can sit and enjoy the sunrise and watch the tide rolling in and out.

St. Monan's itself is a lovely place. The shop is less than a minute away and you are right on the Fife Coastal path so there's plenty to explore right from the door. Being in the East Neuk you are never far from a stunning beach either. Elie is about an hour or so walking along the coastal path (a bit muddy in places but easily passable). We had excellent fish and chips in the Ship Inn which is dog friendly.

We'd highly recommend Shore Leave as a comfortable and relaxing place to take a break from it all.

Didnt want to "leave" shoreleave!

  • 5 of 5

The position overlooking the harbour in st monans was lovely, uninterrupted view of the boats and water beyond. Watching the tide come in was very relaxing . The decor was bright and nautical and sofas and beds v comfortable. Lots of candles made for a wonderful atmosphere. The log burner v welcome too . The tiled floor downstairs great for coming in with wet feet and paws as easily cleaned. Being able to walk tge fife coastal path from your door is wonderful. Walked to anstruther for lunch one day and back (altho no 95 bus along the coast seems quite regular).upstairs lounge a treat to look out through binoculars and relax . well done Claire and tom on a fantastic restoration. Thankyou for your friendly communication x

Owner's Response: Catharine your last minute mini break seems to have been just what you were looking for even with the looming storms! Definitely worth the journey in the pouring rain. Sitting at the upstairs window watching the waves crashing in is one of Tom's favourite spots, and also Yoshi our dog's! We look forward to welcoming you for your next break at Shoreleave, perhaps when the sun shines which it often does in St Monans. Claire

Our third stay at Shoreleave

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Shoreleave for the last 3 years and will hopefully be back for a fourth. The house is beautiful it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. St Monans is such a tranquil place and the scenery on the coastal walks is stunning, we did a 6 mile round trip to Anstruther one day. Thank you again Claire for letting us stay all the family loved Shoreleave and Fife.

Owner's Response: Kerrie we are delighted that you and your family enjoyed being together for the birthday celebrations at Shoreleave. I think to date the house has hosted 'big birthdays' ranging from 30years to 80years with all enjoying the peace and tranquility of the village during all seasons of the year. Hopefully next year you will be able to make the journey north once again to Shoreleave with family and friends. Claire

Beautiful house in a stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

As a birthday celebration for my husband, we initially looked into staying in St Andrews (as he was to play golf on the old course). Thankfully a friend did some research and found this gem of a house in the most beautiful location. It housed 4 of us comfortably (but would easily suit 6), was well equipped, beautifully and tastefully decorated and more importantly spotlessly clean. Communication with the owner prior to arrival was excellent also.

If you are looking for a quiet location, a comfortable house with superb views of the harbour and out to sea and a short walk to one of the best restaurants (in our opinion) around....we cannot recommend this highly enough. Our only worry recommending this property is that it may become so busy it will become heavily booked which may prove difficult for us when we are looking to stay there again!

Many thanks to Claire and her family for sharing their beautiful home. We will be back!

St Monans is one of the famous East Neuk fishing villages renowned for beautiful surroundings, quiet beaches, great walks and fresh local produce. Shoreleave is a recently restored three storey house overlooking the harbour with the famous Fife coastal path right on the doorstep: turn right and head to Elie, turn left and head to Pittenweem taking in the beautiful seascape all along the route.

The award winning Craig Millar seafood restaurant , The Mayview Hotel and the newly opened Smokehouse offer a great variety of dining options within the village. The local area has an abundance of restaurants to choose from ranging from gourmet to pub grub, all of a very high standard.

The Ardross farm shop and the wholesale fishmongers, both located near the entrance to the village, offer fresh local produce at very reasonable prices. The local shop has everything you need for your stay.

Golfers are spoiled for choice for local golf courses with the famous St Andrews Old Course only 12 miles away. Water sports are available at the famous Blue Flag beach in Elie only 2 miles along the road.
