Nyumbani is a traditional single storey Skye cottage situated in its own wrap around gardens overlooking beautiful Loch Harport on the stunning west coast of the Isle of Skye. Nyumbani mean 'our home', in Swahili, and this aptly describes this attractive cottage, with its homely lounge/dining room with open fire, deep leather sofas, family sized kitchen and 3 generously proportioned bedrooms. There is a lovely conservatory that provides a second lounge area, with large flat screen TV and DVD. Doors open onto the fully enclosed gardens that surround the property. Bed linen & towels provided.

A great hideaway on Skye
The home is in a romantic location with amazing views of the water and the mountains. It’s also close to two pubs-The Old Inn and Monro’s. The interior is very cozy and warm, and the kitchen and bathroom functioned well.
Fantastic, homely, loads of space
We spent a week in Skye and used Nyumbani as our accom for the entire week. Such a great place. Loads of room. Bright and homely. Kept immaculate! Perfect for a family. Loads of space in the garden... the dog loved it so much. The garden is enclosed so no worries about any escape attempts from my 9 year old collie cross.
When parking... park up across the road. Have your car pointing down hill and as close to the passing place as poss. We parked our car slightly off road to allow passing places.
Off road parking at the house is coming soon we were told. Maybe by Oct 2018!
The caretaker Keith was really helpful and met us on arrival and took us through the character of the house and how to work things.
Tips- if it is sunny the conservatory and kitchen can get very very hot. Open thr windows a wee bit but not too long though as you dont want midges in.
Beds are firm and comfortable. So much space!
The Old Inn in the village is handy and there is a small shop for anything you might need.
Will we be back? Yes we sure hope so!
Fantastic location, great base to explore the area
I stayed here with my two teenage children and dog for a week. We all loved it, plenty of space in the house, lovely bedrooms, and living areas. Keith explained a few idiosyncratic things upon arrival, which was very useful. My son spent most of his time in the conservatory on his PS4 (it was a very rainy week! ) apparently the wifi is a bit laggy on an evening! We had a peaceful week, when the clouds cleared the views were amazing. Pub food in carbost was fantastic, the bay at fiskavaig was our best find of the week, beautifully clear water, the kids were kayaking on it, it was so calm.
All in all, a great place to stay and central to pretty much all of skye. I'd return tomorrow. ..if it wasn't a 10 hour drive from home! ! Fantastic holiday, thank you very much.
Spacious and ideally situated
Property was clean and spacious, although there is some room for upgrades such as garden furniture would be nice and removal of waste from past projects which still resides in the garden
Perfect location for the Cullin.
Overlooking a sea loch a short distance uphill from Carbost this is an ideal spot to explore the Cullin and beyond. There are 3 spacious berooms, a living room with woodburner, a decent kitchen and conservatory, more than enough space for us and all clean and tidy with a touch of character. We spent the days walking returning in the evening to enjoy dinner and sleep. The Old Inn Carbost is a very welcome place to quench a thirst with an ale or two and serves meals. Overall I would recommend it.
Property was fab and super spacious
The property was really nice. Unfortunately they building work next door lead to the parking being a little difficult but it did not spoil our stay. The house was warm and comfortable with a huge garden for our doggy. Great location with the Old Inn and fabulous pier within walking distance thank you so much we had a wonderful week and to top it off the sun was out all but 1 day which was an unexpected surprise
Thank you xx
Skye is renowned for its climbing and walking and, within close proximity of the Cuillin mountains and McLeod's Tables, Nyumbani is ideally located for this. For those who prefer less energetic exercise there are lovely walks direct from the property, with every chance of encountering a resident otter or seal in the bay as well as the occasional rare sea eagle which are known to nest along this coastline. There are numerous places of interest within easy reach. Talisker Distillery is situated just along the road, and Dunvegan Castle, seat of the Clan MacLeod since the 13th century and the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland is just a short drive away.
The pretty harbour town of Portree is about 20 minutes drive away. Set around its natural harbour, with spectacular hills and mountains beyond, Portree is a quintessentially picturesque fishing village. Brightly painted cottages cluster round the active harbour where some of the finest fish restaurants can be found. along with an excellent selection of local shops, pubs and other restaurants as well as a superb leisure centre with 25 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and table tennis, all available to visitors.
