Maison du Château is a superbly renovated and extremely spacious 4 bedroom property in a world class location, nestled at the very foot of Carcassonne castle. The views from the house of the floodlit castle at night are simply breathtaking and the house sits on a quiet street in the ancient district of La Barbacane, just two minutes' walk via a secret stairway to the Port D'Aude entrance to the castle. New for 2016 is air-conditioning!

The Castle itself is the one of the world's most striking medieval fortified cities, housing a basilica, outdoor theatre, shops, restaurants with superb and varied local cuisine, as well as fantastic original battlements to explore.
All bedrooms are luxurious appointed with generous en-suite facilities (3 have minimalist wet-rooms), the large lounge has a huge L-shaped contemporary sofa and 55 inch TV with blu-ray player and powerful hifi giving amazing home cinema experience. The large kitchen, and adjoining dining area, is extremely well equipped and offers every modern convenience.
The house extends over three floors. The ground floor has a garage and entrance hall at the front, a huge dining room with exposed stone walls and adjacent kitchen to the rear, both of which open onto the garden and pool. The first floor has a large living room at the rear, again with exposed stone walls and access to a covered roof terrace with views of the castle, then two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms at the front of the house. The top floor has two very large bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the rear one of which has unrivalled views of the castle.

For dining at the house there is the elegant indoor dining room with wood-burning stove, and outdoor area with French shingle and pretty olive trees, or the large balcony with breathtaking views of the Castle towering above.
The house also has 2 powerful wood-burning stoves, which allows guests to stay any time of year, with many of our winter guests combining a cultural trip to historic Carcassonne with skiing in the nearby Pyrenees mountains.
The house and gardens boast a host of unique features including an outstanding internal medieval well (in the kitchen itself) and stone walls dating from the Romans which run along the back of the garden.
The nearby castle plays host to year-round festivals and world-class live music (this summer's festivals included concerts by Elton John, The Arctic Monkeys etc). Outside of the historic city, the Bastide St Louis -- a grid of shops, historic buildings, and the Place Carnot marketplace, with its Saturday market and outdoor cafes -- is just a short walk across the beautiful Pont Vieux.
Fantastic scenery nearby with swimming lake on edge of town and Mediterranean beaches 45 minutes drive away. The French countywide around Carcassonne is superb, with rolling hills, historic hilltop villages with historic churches and abbeys.
This is an ideal location for an extremely relaxing family holiday. In addition, Carcasssonne offers a huge variety of day trips within 30 minutes drive, such as the wonderful villages of Mirepoix, Minerve and Lagrasse which are internationally acclaimed for their history and beauty.
The house is easily spacious enough to accommodate two families, with two super-King beds and two double beds, and space in the lounge for extra people to sleep on the sofa bed. There are also extra occasional beds available.
The local streets are the setting for the current Channel 4 series Labyrinth, based on the celebrated novel by Kate Mosse.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE - The house is in a peaceful residential area and so is not suitable for loud groups and so noise should be kept to a minimum in the garden after 11pm please!
