Pool towels are provided when the pool is in use (April through to October) and the pool is heated to never fall below 28C when in use.

There are plenty of areas to choose from for outside dining, either in the sun or shade, with a beautiful 6 seat teak dining table and chairs and charcoal BBQ.

We have created a lovely private town house from which you can stroll to the gourmet restaurants in Sarlat. Most restaurants are within a genuine 5-10 minute walk of the house, which means you can enjoy a few glasses of wine with your meals out without having to worry about driving (taxis tend to be very expensive here in France). There is a boulangerie for your morning croissants and baguettes, with a lovely little deli next door just a short 3 minute stroll away from the house.

Sarlat is a small town of exceptional beauty with its narrow winding streets, stone roofs and Benedictine Abbey. You will be mesmerized by over 1000 years of art and architecture at every turn, all accessible within 5 minutes on foot from your Sarlat holiday home. And the beauty of our location is that you can sit in the garden enjoying the pool or having your lunch and it's peaceful enough to hear the birds sing.

Please be wary of listings that claim to be in Sarlat or 5 or 10 minutes from Sarlat. This often refers to driving time. We are a genuine 5 minute walk to the medieval center. We've heard countless stories from holidaymakers believing they were coming to stay in Sarlat but have had to travel miles to get anywhere.

You can visit the colorful farmer's market and food hall, or indulge in French cafe culture and watch the world pass by. Sarlat has many free attractions throughout the year around including a Christmas market and outdoor ice rink for the festive period, art exhibitions and during the summer months especially, there are constant evening street performers, open air theatre, music festivals, fireworks, acrobats, musicians, clowns providing nightly shows for your entertainment. After a day spent messing about on the river, visiting caves or chateaux, why not sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and watch the locals play Petanque, or even have a go yourself, there is a set of boules in the house for your use.

There really is something for everyone here in Sarlat, right on your doorstep...

About Paul

We visited the Dordogne originally around 20 years ago, coming back year after year with our children and fell in love with the area, especially Sarlat and all it has to offer. We finally moved here permanently six years ago. You will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area. We can provide you with a private chauffeur for sightseeing, wine tours etc. Contacts for bike hire including delivery to the house if you wish. Advice on how to make reservations for visits to local attractions and so much more.

Paul purchased this house in 2013

Why Paul chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

Stunning period property with may original features, private heated pool, mature private garden and Sarlat on foot......... what more could you ask for.

What makes this house unique

This is a wonderful turn of the century period stone town house with good size mature private garden set within an easy 5 minute stroll of Sarlat. La Maison Breuil is situated in a fantastic, residential central location. With only a 3 minute walk to the wonderful boulangeries for your morning croissants and freshly baked baguettes. Everything you wish to sample, restaurants, shopping, sight seeing etc is right on your doorstep. We love to wander into the town purchasing plenty of local produce, Foie Gras, Confit de Canard, Goat cheese etc, saunter back home within minutes and enjoy our feast on the patio watching the locals playing Petanque in the tree lined square at the front of the house, an ultimate French experience.

CENTRAL SARLAT, 3 Bed, Pool, Parking, Free WIFI

We stayed in 'La Maison Breuil' for a week at the end of July. We had never been to the region before and the location of the house gave us the perfect combination of quiet accommodation but with the option to walk into nearby Sarlat for dinner when we wanted. The house itself is gorgeous, the renovations that have gone into the property have been carefully thought through resulting in a property that has kept it's character but that still manages to include everything you need for modern life (dishwasher/washing machine, tv/dvd and of course wifi which it seems impossible to live without now!). We all really loved our stay here the rooms were all beautifully clean with freshly laundered, comfortable cotton sheets and we all slept very well. The large, sheltered, outside table meant that we were able to eat every meal outside and the kitchen was perfectly equipped. We also had a couple of barbecues. The layout of the outside area is also well done - the garden slopes up to the pool which is surrounded by decking which is lovely for lounging around in the sun. We all had a fabulous time splashing around in the pool. The table on the front terrace is also perfect to sit at on warm summer's evening looking out onto the petanque court. The owner is lovely and very pleasant to deal with - which I know should be a given but oftentimes it is not! For example within the house manual doesn't just provide basic info on how to make sure you don't break anything it also contains information on the local area, where to find doctors, pharmacies etc, restaurant recommendation which shows that they are keen to go the extra mile to ensure their guests enjoy their stay and feel welcome. We would all recommend Maison Breuil, in fact we are thinking of going back ourselves! The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area and having Sarlat on the doorstep is great when you cannot be bothered cooking but also do not want to drive for miles. We felt like we were in a home from home for the week, where we could truly relax, and that for me was the best thing about our stay.

Here is one of the many private emails received from guests who have stayed in 2013 : To: Rue Du Breuil Sent: Thursday, 23 May 2013, 15:52 Subject: Re: La Maiso Breuil Hey Paula 4 weeks has gone so quickly and tomorrow we head off! Thank you so much for a wonderful time at your home. Everything we needed has been thought of, and really all we had to do was pick the day trips and restaurants to visit! The only downer of course has been the weather. The guide on our walk through the old town today said he couldn't remember a worse spring in 30 years!! However, the kids did grit their teeth and dive in one day and I am attaching a photo to prove it!!! Thank you also for the thoughtful 'care package' on our arrival. Thanks again and perhaps we will have to come back again another time to prove the weather can be kinder. Best Regards Paul

A beautiful and charming house in a perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

This idyllic house is full of French charm and character, set in a beautiful garden with a wonderful heated pool and decked area. The sunbeds are very comfortable and look brand new as does the BBQ . The house was spotless and very well maintained as were the gardens and patio area. The bed was so comfortable as were the pillows, beautiful bed linen and large fluffy white towels. The house is tastefully decorated and felt like home immediately...the photographs do not do it justice. The garden is well positioned to catch the afternoon and evening sun , a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing. The kitchen has excellent facilities, everything you need to cook a family meal and is such a charming room. The house itself is a short stroll from the center of Sarlat, probably the most beautiful Medieval town I have ever seen. Sarlat itself has a huge choice of bars and restaurants, we enjoyed discovering the hidden restaurants down the many alleyways hidden from view. It was lovely to be able to make a last minute decision of an evening to wander into the town for a bite to eat or a glass of wine, without worrying about parking or whether you would find a table somewhere....there are plenty of choices. The house also has good WI-FI and some English channels on the TV if required. The owners Paul and Leanne were so accommodating during the whole process. I have never experienced such wonderful hosts. We were given information on places to visit, restaurant recommendations, shopping recommendations, excellent directions upon our arrival....they made the whole process so easy. I would also like big thank you to Leanne who also went out of her way to buy some groceries for us for the night of our arrival. I had contacted Paul and Leanne to let them know due to a meeting in Belgium we would be arriving very late, Leanne immediately contacted me offering to pick up some supplies to tide us over until we had a chance to go shopping.....Thank you, we had a delightful supper that night washed down with some lovely French wine...and a thank you to Paul for the French ale, my husband was a happy man.

I would recommend this idyllic French house to anyone. It is perfectly situated to discover and explore the Dordogne, with excellent road links to many of beautiful villages along the river. We could not have picked a more beautiful house and location for our holiday. We will definitely be returning

Wonderful relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday recently at this property. It is in a very convenient location, just a short stroll into the centre of Sarlat. The owner, Paul, was on hand to help and it was nice to meet all the family! The house is very characterful and perfect for our family of four. This area of the Dordogne is beautiful and visiting in April meant it was lovely and quiet. We will definitely return. Thank you.

Fabulous Location, Charming House

  • 5 of 5

Dear Pippa and Steve,

We just had one of the best vacations of our life (May 20 2017 to June 3 2017) and your charming house played an enormous role! The house is lovely and very well appointed. The bed linens were fabulous, the terrace was addictive and the pool area extremely clean and just perfect, especially for the 90+ degree days we had while there. As owners, you are simply the most accommodating, kind and fun owners we have ever encountered from our many online rental experiences.

Your restaurant recommendations were terrific. We especially enjoyed La Petite Tonnelle in Beynac and then Le Presidial and Le Bistro de l'Octroi in Sarlat. We shopped at Leclerc's and it was perfect for all our needs which ranged from great wine, lovely cheese, gourmet tarts and several French novels and magazines for our flight home.

Your brochures and recommendations on Chateaus, market towns, and formal gardens were superb. We spent our days truly enchanted and dazed by all the surrounding beauty. We will definitely return. Many thanks!

Denise and Peter

Lovely House with Lovely owners

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely time at La Maison Breuil, the house was exactly as described, we couldn't have asked for more. The owners were super to deal with before our arrival with a feast of information. During our stay, making time to call down and say a friendly hello and after our stay, thanking us and returning the deposit immediately. The house and pool were fantastic, incredibly well equipped. We were blessed with perfect weather and on top of that the Wi-Fi was excellent, a massive bonus for my husband as he had to unfortunately do a lot of work whilst away but could still sit with us outside. The local bakery is a 3 minute walk and there are two fabulous restaurants close to the house. Sarlat centre only a 10 minutes walk and is to die for. We could not have picked a better place for our holiday. We will be returning soon.

A beautiful house in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The location of this house is perfect. The house was spotlessly clean and its clear it is well maintained. The outside areas are well positioned for both full sun whilst watching the petanque players and a shaded area to get out of the mid day sun. Around the pool, the sun beds and very comfortable and again, different areas for shade and sun with a couple of large umbrellas. The interior of the house is well appointed and tastefully decorated. The bedrooms are very comfortable with top quality linen. The owners were a delight to deal with, from booking to the end of stay. Nothing was too much trouble and gave some excellent advice. We would definitely recommend this property for your holiday.

Comfortable, convenient and welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 with two children under 10 stayed here for a one-week trip in and around Sarlat. It was was a wonderful place to stay and we looked forward to returning every evening after spending the days out and about. We were here in November so didn't use any of the outdoor amenities, but the inside was warm, welcoming, clean and comfortable. Communication with the owner, Pippa, was always pleasant and timely. A bottle of wine was provided as a welcome which was a nice touch. Pippa also provides a binder full of useful information on the house itself - everything you need to know for your stay, as well as useful information about the town such as restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and also nearby sites. The home is very convenient to the central area of Sarlat. The old winding stone streets and historic buildings as well as restaurants, bakeries, shops, etc. are less than 10 minutes away. I strongly recommend this home and would certainly stay here again should I be lucky enough to return to this wonderful region of France.

Why not enjoy a morning drifting down the Dordogne river in your own canoe, passing Chateaux, Bastides and medieval villages as you go, this is something not to be missed. Take your own picnic and stop off at one of the many beaches along the river, or pull in for a gourmet meal at a riverside restaurant. For those of you feeling a bit more energetic, join one of the many bike tours and see the leafy lanes and valleys. Hot air ballooning and microlight flights can be organised locally for the more adventurous amongst you. There is a 'Tree Adventure Park' near by, which is a great place to go in a group for kids and adults alike. There are also the many local caves including Lascaux and the not to be missed Font de Gaume at les Eyzies with their Prehistoric paintings for you to visit. Sarlat itself offers many free attractions, especially during the summer months, including open air street theatre, acrobats, musicians, art exhibitions, concerts and firework displays.

There are many festivals, fetes and markets throughout the year. From mid July and throughout August there is a Music and Drama Festival in Sarlat, with open air concerts, plays, street entertainers and busking musicians, who will amuse and delight you all for free. Try the summer Night Markets and Gourmet Feast Days where it is possible to sample the food from the region, watch it being cooked before you then sit and enjoy with a glass of local wine in the open air dining areas. During the autumn and winter months you can visit the Truffle markets and search for the famous Cepe mushrooms which grow in abundance in the fertile Dordogne region. Sample the regional delicacy of Foie Gras from the many outlets.
