Hi, I'm Georgia, and together with my husband Yiannis and the rest of my family we are the owners of the Village Apartments in Mirthios. We built the apartments in 1998. I have 2 teenage children, my daughter Maria who is now studying for entrance to university, and my son Nondas who is in Junior High School. I was born in the village of Mirthios and have always lived here. Our family has been involved in Tourism for many years, both here in the village of Mirthios as well as in the sea resort of Plakias.
Georgia Kalatzidaki purchased this apartment in 1998
We chose to build the Village Apartment in Mirthios, because of the beautiful view of Plakias and the surrounding mountains and outlying villages. Mirthios is in many ways still a typical traditional Cretan village, and as it is only a few minutes away from the beach by car, offers the visitor the best of both worlds. I, like most Cretans, feel most at home in my village surroundings. It is peaceful, and it's natural beauty breathtaking.
The beauty of staying in Mirthios is that you have the peace and quiet to unwind on your holiday. It is lovely to take a slow stroll around the village through the winding side streets and past the typical village houses of an evening perhaps before going for a traditional evening meal, and hearing the old ladies calling out to each other from the balconies. (This goes back to the time before telephones and mobiles were used). There are also nice walks along footpaths through the olive and orange groves down to Plakias, where you can then enjoy a swim in the sea, or walk along the sandy beach. The thing that I like best about Mirthios is its panoramic view of Plakias which of course can be seen from all the balconies in the Village Aparment Imagine, sitting on your balcony with a nice cool drink of whatever you fancy, and watching the sunset!! It is the most unbelievable experience. I have seen it for most of my life, and still every sunset is different.

Village apartments are situated in the traditional mountain village of Mirthios approximately 3 kilometers from the sea resort of Plakias. For those who like walking, there are many interesting walks around the surrounding villages, where you can see the old mill where they made flour. Preveli Monastery, about 9 kilometers away is well worth a visit. You can read all about the part it played in the 2nd world war, and then visit the famous Palm beach of Preveli. The beach of Plakias, is safe and clean and has been awarded the Blue flag for cleanliness. Along the sea front of Plakias, there are many tavernas serving traditional Cretan Cuisine, and also restaurants with inter-nation dishes. There are many cafeterias and souvenir shops with handmade Cretan products ranging from small lace tablecloths, to beautiful handmade jewelery. Plakias has a post office, a doctor, 2 chemists, a laundry, and international book and paper shop, 3 hairdressers and many supermarkets where those who stay on self catering holidays can find all the necessary things needed for their holiday. For those who like a holiday that involves sea sport, there are water sports, and diving schools to be found in Plakias, Damnoni Beach, Amoudi Beach, and Skinaria Beach. You can go horse riding along the beach or through the mountains, and donkey riding is also available. There are car hire offices where you can also book excursions such as a walk down the famous Samaria Gorge, or take a boat trip to Gramvousa, a place that reminds me of what paradise would look like.
