Comfortable and very spacious
we really enjoyed our stay at Nadeau, the cottage has been renovated very thoughtfully and is a peaceful relaxing space. The bed was really comfortable and the light and spacious kitchen had all facilities needed. Like others have said you definitely need a car to drive to attractions but also can walk/cycle right from the door in lovely countryside. We particularly enjoyed the "Voie Vert" reclaimed railway track that is now a walking and cycling track of 34 kms that runs close by the area from Cerat in the south to Brabieux St Hiliare in north. The Owner Sofie was very flexible and friendly responding quickly to any queries, especially important as we booked only a few days before arriving.
Thank you for your review. I have just returned home and the cold is a shock after 3 weeks of sunshine and a daytime temperature of 25-27 degrees, in October!
Very lovely area
Lovely cottage all provided. Lovely helpful neighbours would go again.
Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards Sofie
This gite was a charming peaceful place to stay. It had some lovely character features and a modern kitchen. It is situated about an hours drive from Bordeaux and Cognac. The nearest town is about 7 mins by car and has three very good bakers and a small market on Wednesdays (there is also a bakers van that delivers most mornings). The larger town(Montendre) is about 20 mins by car has a much larger market on Thursdays.
There is a large supermarket and fuel station within 5 mins drive.
Although there is no pool, there is a beautiful lake nearby (7 min drive) with a beach and beach bar/restaurant. I would recommend this gite as a base to use to visit the region provided you are prepared to drive between 30 mins and 90 mins. There are some amazing sights to see such as the citadel at Blaye which has a whole medieval town inside it. (Totally unexpected) or the very unusual Prambulator museum at Chateau Madeline. This was discovered by accident as we just turned up to try the wine and got a private tour of the museum totally free!!!.
Thank you for your review and I will add Blaye to my recommended places to visit. I visited the Citadel a long time ago but on a Sunday in March when everything was closed but the Judas trees were covered with blossom. I must go again.
Kind regards Sofie
The cottage is really lovely; comfortable, modern with French charm.
We loved this delightful cottage. It was very peaceful and was just what we needed for restful week. We visted nearby sleepy villages and also busier towns like Royan.your neighbour was very helpful and a delight to talk to. Beau Vallon was an equally nice place for a lakeside dip and meal. The supermarket was surprisongly big and was very handy nearby. The weather was up and down. When it was hot it was very hot but the tree In your garden provided lovely shade. Drinks on the patio area as the sun was going down was also enjoyable. When it was chilly, The log fire was just wonderful
The evening t.v. was disappointing but we utilised the DVD player and had a great laugh watching 'The Thin Blue Line.' All in all a wonderful week. Many thanks for the use of your lovely home.
Thank you very much for your review. I am pleased you had an enjoyable stay at the cottage.
lovely house and garden
Very enjoyable stay. We enjoyed visiting the wine region and the coast.
We were delighted with the cottage and had a very enjoyable holiday. It was clean and well maintained with clear information provided for guests. The rooms are spacious, the bed and furnishings comfortable and the kitchen well equipped with easy access into the garden. The week we were there was a bit chilly so the log burning stove was well used and made the cottage very cosy.
We enjoyed the experience of staying in such a charming old French hamlet. The local people were very friendly, particularly our immediate neighbour, Mme Louoissier, who could not have been more helpful. Nadeau was easy to find and centrally placed in terms of the local places of interest which we visited. We would particularly recommend Aubeterre sur Dronne, St Emelion and Royan.
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne - one of the most photographed villages in France . Balconied houses in the old style adorn Aubeterre which lies on the ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. A remarkable structure here is the unusual 12th century Église Monolithe hewn out of the rock under the castle. Aubeterre has a number of good restaurants and small shops and a small Sunday market. During the summer months there is music in the main square in the evenings.
There is a pleasant riverside beach at Aubeterre with good leisure facilities and canoe hire.
At the hilltop town of Brossac , there is a lovely lakeside beach with snack bars, sailing dinghies and pedaloes again with great bathing and facilities (large flume and play areas for children)
Beauvallon near Montguyon a converted sand quarry that has sandy beaches, swimming lakes, pedallos, cafes and bars
