Classic A-frame cabin for 6-8 with stunning mountain views
About Susan Medak
My family, based originally in Chicago, discovered the Colorado Rockies in 1957 on a trip to Los Angeles. We spent 10 years going to the YMCA of the Rockies outside of Estes Park, and in 1967 finally bought a rustic 4 bedroom house in Meeker Park (part of Allenspark), 20 minutes from Estes. My husband and I now live in Berkeley California, and come out to the mountains usually 3 - 4 times a year.
Susan Medak purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Susan Medak chose Allenspark
Our family purchased the Ponderosa Lodge cabin next door in 1967 and since 1980 we always were interested in buying Solitude as a way to house the 3 generations of family who came out to enjoy the mountains. In 2001, we were fortunate to be able to buy the cabin and fixed it up with a new deck, furniture, and especially the skylights looking out to Mt. Meeker from the upstairs master bedroom.
What makes this Cabin unique
My husband says sitting on the desk in the early evening is his favorite place and his favorite time. I love the idea of being in a neighborhood without having the neighbors be that close to you. We see more wildlife than people - moose, elk, coyote, hummingbirds, owls - you name it. We are only a few minutes from outstanding camping and hiking, 20 minutes fro Estes Park, and 45 minutes from Boulder.
by parties we mean family gatherings

The lovely A-frame cabin surrounded by pine trees and mountain views was our perfect little getaway to unplug. We hiked and went sightseeing by day, lounged on the wonderful deck, grilled dinners, had a fire in the fireplace a couple of evenings and just relaxed! We had the convenience of being close to Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park and numerous trails while being away from the touristy stuff in our quiet cabin in the woods - perfect balance!
Beautiful mountain cabin!
Great location with great views. Lyons and Estes Park are beautiful drives with great scenery. Served as a great base for our mountain adventures! Cabin was clean and well stocked. Property owners were great and the place felt like home.
Solitude Cabin is the most perfect place you’ve ever dreamed of! If you are looking for a cabin in the mountains surrounded by trees, wildlife, but not people, this is it! The views from the deck and the bedrooms are amazing- the loft bedroom has huge windows to view the scenery and the stars. The cabin was clean with comfortable beds and was well equipped! We will definitely be going back to this lovely, peaceful place!
Very nice cabin with an excellent location. Easy arrangements. We hope to return soon.
Easy and pleasant experience.
We had a great stay at Solitude - and there were plenty of towels (other reviewers listed a concern). The hairdryer was missing, and one was provided immediately. The kitchen is very well-appointed. The picture window in the living room is amazing. I would say this house is ideal for a couple or a family with small children. It’s only real limitation is the single bathroom. We had a great time and would stay again. Thank you!
Very remote which we enjoyed greatly. Due to the remote location cell connection is very iffy
* We needed more than the two towels supplied (there were two of us) for the week. Due to remoteness, an small stacked washer/dryer would be very beneficial - especially for those staying more than a day or two.
* The coffee pot quit and was replaced quickly. Owner and caretaker were most congenial and helpful.
* the upstairs bedroom is lovely with a gorgeous view. Even so, we chose the queensize bed downstairs simply because we tend to get up several times at night - the stairs are well lighted but that light would also wake up the person still asleep, we lacked the confidence to negotiate the stairway half asleep, and the bathroom is downstairs.
Overall we had a very good experience.
We are surrounded by Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest
