Having lived in Spain for many years, I now live in the UK where I work with polished plaster. I still visit Facinas as often as I can.
Andrew Cooke www.casafacinas.com purchased this house in 2003
I bought this property in 2003 having fallen in love with the area. I carried out the reburbishment myself and lived there very happily until life took me back to the UK.
Beautifuly furnished with care and perfection. The kitchen colors and wooden floors all match seamlessly and the great fireplace in the corner is wonderful. The bed was really soft and sumptous. The shower was a bliss with really powerful sprays of instant hot water.
We were greeted by a lovely care taking lady who welcomed us. A bottle of great Rioja Wine was left on the dinner table - made us feel so at home in the flat.
The flat is spacious and placed on a hill with unhindered views at the back.
Facinas is a lovely little village on a small hill. Large streets makes it easy to drive around well. It has a bank cash machine as well around the corner.
Car parking was easy just out side the flat.
We had a lovely time relaxing and cooking our own food in the evenings after the long trips. We would have liked to have spent a few more days if we could have.

The house is in a very nice and interesting Spanish village very near from Valdevaqueros e playa Bolonia (few minutes driving). There are many shops and restaurant beyond on your doorstep (try Ventorillo El Nene!). Andrew is very prompt and kind in his communication. The house is modern and clean and perfect for a family of four. We had an extremely comfortable stay. I highly recommend this house and hope to rent it again (soon)!
We really enjoyed our stay in Facinas- great accommodation, stunning views, meals at El Nene - fantastic local meats, and a daily chat with Fernando at the super mercado (he speaks very good English) and was always happy to recommend places to eat and visit locally. We really loved Bolonia and spent many times there - the Roman ruins are interesting, the walks along the beach, Boardwalk and sand dune are lovely. Also enjoyed Tarifa and would highly recommend visits to Vejer particularly la califa tapas & restaurant. For the time of year (end of March/beginning of April) we enjoyed mostly sunny days with cool winds. We sat on the terrace at Casa Facinas most days enjoying the sun and views. Facinas is a great village - you could if you wanted get everything you need as there is a wide range of shops, market, cafes/bars and 2 restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Facinas, The house was very well appointed and was very restful and quiet. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the roof terrace and saw some amazing sunsets. Thank you Andrew!
"... This is the second time I've had the pleasure of staying in Casa Facinas… and it was great to be back! The house was exemplary in terms of cleanliness, comfort and that cozy ‘at-home-but away-on-holiday’ feeling. The owner has taken meticulous care of all aspects and requirements of a quality holiday home. The decor is superb: from the marble-finish on the walls to immaculate floors to tasteful, artistic decor, top quality fitments, comfortable furniture and all amenities. Both house and apartment are appointed with care and thoughtfulness. I thoroughly recommend the apartment - my first stay- and this year the house to anyone seeking comfortable, functional, unpretentious luxury and an excellent situation. The property is in walking distance of local shops - 10 mins drive from nearest town Tarifa (supermarkets etc) and a short drive to one of the most accessible (clean) and famous windsurfing/kiting/surfing beaches in Europe... especially Bolonia Beach (uncrowded in the early mornings and evenings if you like quiet walks/swims etc). Easy access to excellent local hotels/restaurants and gateway to the rest of Andalucia with airports at Gib and Malaga. For us it was the perfect location for an all-round comfortable, convenient, functional, relaxing holiday home-from-home…we'll be back!”
I had previously stayed in the apartment, but this time I rented the house, and came with a family friend. It was amazing on arrival to find so much thought and care had gone into welcoming us to the house on arrival. And, as for clean, I could have eaten supper of the floor !!!
The local beach, and beach bar, in Bologna was pure heaven, watching our first sunset of the holiday. And the weather for two weeks was fabulous. The local shop keeper, Fernando, spoke great English, and couldn't do enough for us, including supplying us with the freshest local eggs - which were huge and tasted great.
The housekeeper for the house was at the end of a text in seconds when we had a query, and made our departure from the house so easy and friendly.
I'm booking the house for two weeks every May from now on! A real find.
We enjoyed our stay at Andrew's apartment in Facinas! We booked last-minute and appreciated the swift communication with Andrew and the good price he was offering us. Everything turned out as expected, the apartment was clean, bright, cozy and well equipped. The rooftop terrace is perfect for BBQ and offers a great view of Facinas and its surroundings. We were kitesurfing in Tarifa/on the surrounding beaches and found that the apartment is conveniently located (15 min by car) for people who would like to stay at a more quiet place than Tarifa.
We would definitely stay here again!
Facinas is a wonderfully peaceful place and a perfect base from which to explore the local region. The village itself boasts some of the best restaurants in the area, at weekends attracting many visitors from the neighbouring towns. There are fantastic opportunities for walking and cycling in the hills behind Facinas, with prehistoric cave paintings, forests and waterfalls to be discovered and explored.
Whilst being a quieter alternative to the busy nightlife centre of Tarifa, Facinas is also closer to the areas' most popular beaches. Nearest is the amazing beach at Bolonia where you can wander around the impressive Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia before dining on fish straight out of the sea! A little further south is the natural paradise of Punta Paloma followed by the stunning bay of Valdevaqueros and the long kitesurf mecca of Los Lances.
The nearest main town of Tarifa has something for everyone. Wander around the labyrinthine streets of the old town and shop in the many stylish boutiques, explore the medieval castle, eat in one of the myriad tapas bars and restaurants or dance the night away. Whale watching tours into the straits of Gibraltar leave daily and Morocco is only 35 minutes away by ferry; lunch in Tangier is a fun way to spend a day. For those that fancy a late night out, taxis run all night to get you back to Facinas.
Head northwest and you soon reach the stunning hilltop Moorish town of Vejer de la Frontera which has been declared a national monument. Overlooking Las Breñas national park, the beaches of Los Caños de Meca and El Palmar, and Cape Trafalgar, it is a fantastic place to spend a day exploring the medieval old town with its tiny cobbled streets, tapas bars, shops and historic buildings including the original castle which in parts dates back to the 10th Century.
The beaches near Facinas are all unspoilt, clean and spacious even in the middle of summer. The area is famous for windsurfing and kitesurfing and it is easy to arrange lessons if necessary. Other activities that are offered locally include horse-riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and scuba diving. The nearest golf courses are at Montenmedio or Benalup, or, heading in the other direction, the many courses of the Costa del Sol start at Alcaidesa, all 45 minutes away.
