A romantic view in a wonderful city. Sleep and relax watching amazing places, looking out from the balcony and be fascinated by what you see. The balcony is a small card on SASSI, overlooking a well-known neighborhood with tanks for acqua..La unusual shape of the rooms, communicating with tuff times, makes it unique. .. If you want we will take you to discover along narrow streets, stone churches and hidden corners that are our tradition and our history. The apartment is located in the upper part of the old quarters, a few steps from the central square, has 4 beds and has all the amenities: wi-fi, kitchen with utensils, refrigerator, TV, bed linen and towels. Our ambition is to make you feel at home here at home because you will always find oil, salt etc. so you can spend a peaceful and unforgettable holiday.
This beautiful apartment in the Sassi (ancient town) is the perfect place to explore this wonderful, magical location. The apartment was spotlessly clean, modern with lovely furnishings, beautiful linens, and we had an amazing view from the windows (which you can open and enjoy the sunshine or sunset) at the foot of our bed. My husband and I had everything we needed for our 6 night stay, including Paola's delicious marmalade jam. The apartment is on the fringe of the old town and the non-sassi part of Matera, so you can walk around both areas without any trouble. We were in awe visiting the old part of Matera with the ancient churches, walkways, small cave museums, and wonderful restaurants (Cenacolo Degli Artisti was fantastic). Matera was the highlight of our 5 weeks touring Italy. We strolled the Piazza V. Veneto in the newer area of Matera on Friday and Saturday nights and the town was filled with locals enjoying gelato, people-watching, or meeting up with friends. It was a fantastic experience. We also drove to many of the other towns in Basilicata and Puglia during our stay in Matera (loved the trulli houses in Alberobello.) Thank you Paola for a wonderful stay in your beautiful apartment. Maybe if we ever get to Matera again, we will get to meet Gianni and visit you.
If you close your eyes and picture the perfect location, lodging and hosts, that would be the House of Gianni. Then, when you imagine the most magical place, that would be Matera.
We only stayed 2 nights, and wished we had stayed much, much longer. And, of course, that was due to the attention to detail and hospitality of Paola and Gianni.
You couldn't ask for a better location from which to enjoy all the wonderful sights of Matera! Paola doesn't speak a whole lot of English, but her husband Gianni does and the language barrier was no problem at all. As others had said, the view from the bedroom area is fantastic as you are overlooking the sassi. One night we heard fireworks and went to the window and were treated to one of the best firework shows we'd ever seen, what a bonus! The Piazza V. Veneto, the main square and source of all activity, is about two blocks from the home. You have to find your own parking spot if you've rented a car, but in the week we were there, that was never a problem as we found spaces (free) easily. Look for the white lines in which to park as they are all free. The home does sleep four, but the four should be a couple and two kids as the pull-out sofa is not in a separate room. The home is really one big room with a divider. Again, as there were only two of us, this was not an issue. Everything is provided for you. We cooked a few nights and had everything we needed to prepare a meal. As I said, the location is perfect, shops nearby, restaurants and caffes available everywhere, and one of the safest places you'll ever find. It's hard to separate how much we enjoyed Matera from the home we rented there, but I'm sure the home added to the enjoyment of one of the most enjoyable trips we've taken. Thank you, Paola and Gianni, for helping us in enjoying Matera.
Paola made us feel at home during our visit. She picked us up from the station, stocked the fridge with milk (since we had young kids), homemade marmalade and some biscuits. She also provided us with a very useful map of the area, which we used to map out our hiking in the area. She even offered to arrange to send us off to the station, since we had young children. What a wonderful host! The apartment itself was clean, with an amazing view from the window and a small patio at the front. The apartment was very well situated within the sassi, but close to the street, so we didn't have to manuever our bags too far to get in and out of the sassi. We loved Matera, and we definitely loved the apartment that we went home to, at the end of the day. Thanks so much Paola!
This was a lovely place to stay, particularly for an artist, as I sat at the window painting that wonderful view - and, yes, that really is the view from the window.
Paola made sure this was a really special visit, supplying provisions for a delicious breakfast, and there was everything needed to make you comfortable.
Everything fresh and new , plus little things like excellent linen and towels, home-made marmalade - made the
difference! The apartment is strategically placed for exploring Matera and reaching everywhere else easily - main square, fruit and veg. market, bancomat, supermarket.
One thing - if you're arriving by car, don't expect to find easy parking - once you accept that, unload and take the car 100 metres or so to via Tataranni (thank heavens for satnav!).
Thank you, Paola, for a great stay.
If you are planning at trip to Matera please stay here! It was fabulous. Everything about the apartment is perfect. The location. The comfort, the layout, and most of all the owners Paolo and Giovanni. They picked us up in an unexpected rain and hail storm. They brought us to the apartment, and saw to it that we had everything we needed. They gave us coffee, tea, water, milk, sugar, salt, tomatoes, bread, cookies, amazing olive oil and jam. They hooked us up to wifi, and left their phone number before leaving us in their beautifully furnished, comfortable apartment. The location is perfect, close to the sites, restaurants, the main piazza, and great gelato. We walked and climbed and walked and returned to our own little place each night where we felt right at home. Each day we cooked breakfast, visited the fresh vegetable market, and enjoyed a birra across from the museum in our favorite bar. We took part in the evening stroll each evening, and marveled at how fit and happy the people of Matera are. Grazie Mille Paolo and Giovanni. You are the best hosts, and we highly recommend your place to anyone coming to the unique city of Matera,
