Overview

About the property

Balcony overlooking Mousehole Island, 1 bedroom, parking

Nestled on romantic Poldark's coastline, Island Watch is a small but beautiful, purpose-built apartment set on two levels with stunning views of Mount's Bay and St Clement's Island and a private balcony. The apartment makes a romantic, convenient and comfortable base from which to enjoy South West Cornwall: in December for the magic of a traditional old English Village Christmas, in the Spring for the walking and the flowers, in Summer for the beaches or, for one of our famous Indian Summers right into November. And every day when you rise or come home, you have the spectacular sea views to drink in from your lounge or the private balcony. It's a great spot for a honeymoon or special anniversary.

(NB if you would like to come to the same location with another couple or a couple more guests, please note that we also let out the main house Seal Point Villa: 1055858. It may be possible to offer a discount for parties of three or four.)

So, for Island Watch, made just for two, climb the simple wooden steps to your own entrance leading onto the first floor. Here you'll find the lounge with kitchenette and French doors to the sheltered balcony. Flanked by palm trees you can sip fresh coffee from the Nespresso machine and watch the wildlife in the sea and on the Island. The balcony is sheltered and quite a suntrap. The small wc and shower are also on this level.

Upstairs to the bedroom under the eaves. Here there's a very comfortable kingsized bed with good mattress (we renew regularly) and good quality cotton linen. There's also a small sofa, a selection of books (English, French and German) and storage space for your clothes. From the skylight you can see the Island again and if you leave it open, fall asleep listening to the sound of the water lapping on the shore some 50 metres away.

Parking right in front of the apartment gives you peace of mind in coming and going - so much of Mousehole has no reliable parking to offer. The flat is equipped with: TV, DVD player, Ipod dock and radio, Wifi, microwave/small oven, two plate induction hob, fridge with freezer compartment, Nespresso coffee machine, tea, coffee.

We live next door to the apartment and are happy to welcome you and leave you to yourselves or be on hand for any questions you may have or tips you need during your stay. If we are on holiday ourselves, my mother lives nearby and is on hand for any needs you have.

The house is neighboured by the gardens of the Old Coastguard Hotel, a boutique hotel with 13 rooms and a very fine restaurant. This is a quiet establishment and a lovely place to dine - but do book. If you google its website, you can also gain a greater sense of the position.

About Rob McDowell

We are a husband and wife team. We love sharing the best of the West with guests.

Why Rob McDowell chose South West Cornwall

We just love to watch the sea and its creatures feathered and finned. For this you need to be close and 50 metres is just about perfect! We also love to watch the sailing and fishing boats passing by and the Scillonian on its way to and from the Scilly Islands.

Relaxing week in Mousehole

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful relaxing week in Mousehole and loved your little apartment with the beautiful view, saw a few seals as well. Great spot for walking and exploring the coast. Would highly recommend walking to Newlyn for breakfast at Dukes Cafe and picking up some pasties and saffron buns from the bakery for the return journey. Had a fantastic dinner at 2 Fore Street and did some great shopping at Coast. Thank you for a great week.

Superb balcony, wonderful view, great location and careful attention from the owners.

  • 4 of 5

The balcony and its superb view make 'Island Watch' a great holiday venue. The living area on the lower floor is small but just adequate for two. Very squeaky floor boards through the kitchen /lounge area caused us concern for the accommodation below, but the folk staying there were not bothered. The bath room and toilet is on an even smaller scale, but designed well and was fine. We were comfortable and we enjoyed being there.

The bedroom on the higher level was more difficult. The information about the venue is clear that the bedroom is an attic/loft room and that was fine, but we found that the only place to stand upright was at the top of the stairs. I am not disabled but at 73 I found that to mount a step of between 18 and 20 inches to reach the drawers and hanging space for clothes was too difficult ..... and not even a rail or handle to grip for assistance! I think it needs a little re- planning.

The owners could not have been more welcoming or helpful and the location is excellent.

Owner's Response: Thank you both. We enjoyed meeting you. Thank you for the tip the hand rail - we will certainly put one there and an additional step. In fact there are a couple of ways the bed can stand and people have different preferences. I'm sorry we didn't know you had a difficulty or we would certainly have tried to sort things out for you when we popped by. It is an attic room but my husband and I are 5'10' (180cm) and can certainly move around easily up there. I'm sorry you found the wooden floor squeaky and were worried - beneath the apartment is just wc and the two levels are fully insulated for noise and warmth anyway. I'm glad you enjoyed the location, watching the seascape from the balcony. Thank you again for taking the time to review the apartment. We love it that so many of our guests have done so and it's always helpful to hear new perspectives. We have a lot of returners with the youngest being in their twenties and oldest over 80, recently celebrating their 60th wedding at the apartment. Even after six years, we always want to be improving and learning, so thank you. I hope we can welcome you back some time. Rob

Owner's Response: Thank you Raymond. You're so right about the parking - a space sold for £30,000 recently in Mousehole so I'm very glad we have one already right by the flat!

A perfect Holiday Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved our days here in this lovely place. A great location, with parking. Short stroll into the village, and a bus stop right outside for trips into Newlyn and Penzance....you really don't need your car. Everything you could want, and a beautiful view. Enjoyed the sound of the nearby sea lulling us to sleep. Friendly owner, and lots of extra goodies such as cookies and local onion relish! We'll be back in warmer weather so that we can relax on the balcony.
